According to the song lyrics, the 6th Day of Christmas is "Six Geese A-Laying" What does this mean? To me, Six geese a-laying represents 6 different streams of income. A farmer can use the eggs for food, or to sell or barter for other goods. If something were to happen to one of his geese, he would not be ruined. He would have 5 geese a-laying, and still be able to put food on his table, or trade eggs for money or other goods.
I believe more people should act like this proverbial farmer
I think many of us have heard about income streams, active income, passive income, and portfolio income before (if not, I have brief description below). I like to share some quick observations about active versus passive income as it relates to financial independence and wealth.
The image above is a simplification that shows active income on one end, and passive (and portfolio) income on another. The key differentiator is how much of your time and energy is required to generate the income:
active income generation requires a lot of your time and energy, whereas
passive income generation can persist for days, months, or even years with very little effort.

Antique Store - Our lease is up at the end of the month and we are choosing not to renew it. While fun, it took up a lot of time. In addition the money we earned was mostly eaten up by rent costs. An awesome learning experience and we didn’t loose our shirts.
eBay - We’ve started a Store and continue to put up auctions, though not a frequently. While eBay can generate some decent cashflow, once you stop working - it does too.
