Gray Strawberries is a post-rock/experimental project started in 2006, by five boys from 17 to 22 years old in Indaiatuba, São Paulo, Brazil. After the release of their demotape, Violent Skies of May, name given because of a tornado that striked their hometown, the band started developing and playing all around the São Paulo state. A new album is expected for 2008. -----(Kicking off with a 17min
I'm not sure which is more incredible--the large bowl of strawberries I picked from my garden yesterday or the sunshine you see all around. This summer is working to be the coldest in Anchorage history with fewer days below 65 than any previously recorded year and yesterday was the first day I remember waking up to sunshine since May. Funny how a little sunshine makes everything better.Needless
So did I get you with that picture? Our family usually has a big breakfast together on Sundays. It is the only day that James can join us for breakfast so we try to make it a special breakfast. The girls and I wake up late and then have fun making things together. James usually does not want to wait that long so he has this bad habit of making a frozen pizza as he waits. This recipe is one of our

Summer means bountiful berries and delicious desserts, but when it comes to ripe and luscious strawberries combined with rich and dark chocolate, more often than not, a platter of Chocolate Covered Strawberries can easily serve to be the perfect answer for your dessert needs, without being overly heavy! I had a busy weekend. One could say very busy with all the events that were happening. This is going to be a long post. Strawberries thrive here in the Pacific Northwest but this year the June bearers almost missed their month this year with some of the erratic weather we have had during the past couple months. Last year I planted about a half dozen June bearing plants in the holes of the cinder blocks that surround my raised bed. A bit of an experiment for me, I covered the board in a white ground designed for underpainting wet-in-wet. I am not sure that it was entirely successful, but it was fun to try.

Vanilla Panna Cotta with Strawberries is a refreshingly light yet extremely popular Italian dessert. Literally translated as "cooked cream", this is a rich and creamy custard, topped with berries, caramel or chocolate sauce. When I heard about it for the first time, I was skeptical; pepper and vinegar in a dessert?! doesn't sound very inviting. But I courageously tasted it at a cafe once, and I h

I have to admit that when I think of my favorite ice cream flavors, strawberry is not one of the flavors that come to mind. I tend to associate strawberry ice cream with childhood and Neapolitan ice cream. Most strawberry ice creams you come across are made with frozen strawberries and—for me—are kind of boring. [...]

Last Monday, a couple from our church invited us out to their berry farm since they said the strawberries were a'plenty and getting squishy if someone didn't pick them.
So we hopped in the old van and beat it out there. To the tune of 90 mph?
Yeah, that freaked me out a little when I looked down at it. I like to get where I'm going pretty fast, but geez! Then people started passing us on the
Summer means strawberries and I like to eat as many of these sweet ruby fruits as I can while they’re fresh. I like to visit pick-your-own farms to harvest succulent, juicy strawberries. Then I spend hours hulling and making delicious strawberry recipes.Which is just fine with me because, health-wise, strawberries are great: * They boast fiber, more vitamin C than any other berry. * They conta

Not all diets have to taste bad... Strawberries are proven to be more satisfying than other foods as they lower cholesterol levels. They also provide the below health benefits:1. They are healthy! As they contain valuable vitamins and nutrients. Just eight strawberries provide more Vitamin C than one orange does-about 160% of the daily recommended amount. Not only are they yummy... they are also full of fiber, and potassium-with just only 50 tiny calories per serving and 8 grams of sugar.2. They will keep you young... hows that for a benefit!Strawberries are packed with super cancer fighting and anti aging antioxidants. They ward off nasty cronic diseases, and will promote optimal health! Strawberries rank about 10th among the top ten fruits in relation to the amount of antioxidants they co
If you've never been keen on commercial teeth-whitening products and you love strawberries, today is your lucky day: Web site Health.com says that one ripe strawberry plus half a teaspoon of baking powder equals a natural teeth whitener. The secret is malic acid—the product of the mix—which is an astringent that can buff coffee and cigarette stains from your teeth. The post emphasizes that you should be careful, though—too much use could lead to damaged enamel. While a professional teeth bleaching by your dentist will lead to better results, the strawberry method is a fast, cheap alternative.

Okay, I promise this will be the last time I talk about our strawberry plant in the grow box. After a little more than a month in the grow box our plant went from a small lifeless plant to one that looks like will bear about 10 strawberries. We are planning on moving it to the garden with the rest our strawberry plants later this week to make room for the growing tomatoes.
How strawberry plant looked when we started 40 days ago.
Picture of my daughter showing off her strawberry before she ate the first one.
I sampled on the strawberries and must say I do miss "local" strawberries, looking forward to the rest of them in the next couple months.
My 6 year old daughter was the inspiration for the PC grow box for her science fair project to figure out why strawberries don't grow during the wintertime. She started by picking a strawberry plant from our garden (snow still on the ground) and we potted it in a terra cotta pot which she carefully painted ahead of time. We put it in the grow box in our garage with the lights on for 14 hours a day. As she saw significant changes in her strawberry plant we took pictures. After about a month of growing we went through the pictures and she wrote her report explaining the changes.
She definitely had a good time standing by her display proudly telling people about her project and answering any questions that the various visitors had. She did take a break to take a look at some of the oth
this might sound a little strange, but the Japanese seem to have a fruit, vegetable and flower to mark each season. as winter starts to wane, many people go to these large greenhouses, pay about Y1300 ($12) and get a small two-partitioned plastic tray. one part is to hold the strawberry stems; the other holds a large glob of condensed milk.
then people are let lose inside one of the greenhouses-- eating as much as they please for 30 minutes.
one of my friends put it this way: 日本人の大好きなことは、食べ放題と飲み放題です。Japanese tend to love places that offer "all you can eat" and "all you can drink".

Here's a perfect romantic recipe to make on this Valentine's Day: chocolate-covered strawberries. And it's so easy to make! CHOCOLATE-COVERED STRAWBERRIES 10 strawberries 1 8oz chocolate bar Wash strawberries, and dot with paper towels to dry. The strawberries have to be really dry, otherwise the chocolate won't stick to them. Put the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave for several minutes until melted. Put a piece of parchment paper on the counter (so the chocolate strawberries don't stick). But if you don't have parchment paper, you can use a piece of foil or a large plate. Dip strawberries in chocolate, and lay on the parchment paper. Refrigerate for 30 minutes, so the chocolate hardens. Enjoy! by: Donna Monday I love strawberries! Do you? If so, then you’ll love this recipe for making a strawberry milkshake. I remember how much fun it was as a little girl to go and pick fresh strawberries in the field. There’s nothing more enjoyable than adding a handful of big, ripe, juicy strawberries to a bowl of cereal or to the top of a frosted cake to make it more colorful. And let’s not forget that delectable dessert called strawberry shortcake. But of course, we know that you don’t have to put strawberries on top of something to enjoy them. They’re nature’s perfect snack fruit that comes ready to eat. If you love milkshakes and strawberries, then you most definitely enjoy the taste of strawberry milkshakes. Milk and cream are the perfect compliment to the sweet tangy flavor of ripe strawberries. Why, you could say it’s a match made in heaven. Because . . . that’s what a homemade strawberry shake tastes like – pure heaven. You don’t have to wait till summer to enj

Cut vanilla bean open and scrape out the seeds.2. Beat the egg yolks with sugar and vanilla.3. Whip the cream and fold it into the egg mixture.4. Pour your prepared mixture into a wide plastic freezer container.5. Put it, covered, into your freezer for a couple of hours.Optional: You may take the ice cream out of the freezer after 30-40 minutes, break up the ice crystals by beating it and making it smooth again, and repeat this now and then. However, there is really no need to stir this ice cream while it freezes. I don´t do that. When there are so many egg yolks in the ice cream mixture, I find it unnecessary.TO MAKE THE DESSERT:1. The next time you snack on a trail mix, take a careful look at the dried fruits included. There are raisins, bananas, maybe some kinds of berries, but dehydrated strawberries are missing. It is hard to explain this phenomenon because when you think about it, cowboys traveling along the American trails in the west or anywhere else must have come across some strawberries. But then why is it that dehydrated strawberries always seem to be forgotten when it is time to put in the dried fruits in the trail mix?One answer to this might be that cowboys, who are supposedly very manly and tough, do not want to be seen munching on strawberries, as these fruits are deemed to be more suited to ladies and young, rosy-cheeked children. Eating dehydrated strawberries might reduce their masculinity in the opinion of their peers, and cause serious damage to their tough demeanor. Thus, dehydrated strawberries have been excluded from the trail mix, to protect the manly reputation of these cowboys. However,

Arguably the most delectable fruit known to home gardeners is surprisingly one of the easiest to grow as well. Though I'm still unsure as to why I nurture my strawberry plants because either their fruit shrivels and disappears upon ripening or my children are feasting at my expense. I'm tending toward the latter.
Nevermind, at least someone is benefiting from these wonderful fruits.
I've always grown strawberries, experimenting with different varieties and techniques hoping to achieve better results each year. And bit by bit my success is slowly improving. Yet I find my biggest distraction is comparing my yields to those in the local supermarket. I've had to console myself that unless I give my strawberries the attention and "cotton-wool" treatment they receive from professional strawberry growers, they will always look second-class.
But that's okay. They taste better than those bought from the shop.
So what h

What more could you ask for but a bit of great tennis, some strawberries in a bowl, and a spot of tea with the Queen? Go for it!!These are some more of my mother's dishes. The little bowl is ironstone with a tea leaf design in the center of it...covered up by the strawberries. The cup...is a gilded demitasse that she had for as long as I can remember. It's gorgeous. It honestly looks worthy of the Queen. I doubt anyone in my family ever drank from it. It's too pretty. I don't think I could ever do it justice in a painting, but it was fun trying and probably I will attempt it again in another still life at some point. Now go watch Wimbledon and enjoy!

Meringue Nests with Strawberries From Fiona Haynes, These individual meringue nests make a delicious and almost fat free dessert for Valentine's Day. Meringues are one of those desserts that look difficult to make but are actually pretty straightforward. Really! I like my meringue to be crisp on the outside but soft and slightly chewy in the center. This is because I’ve embarrassed myself by cutting into a crispy, hard meringue only to watch it fly across the dining table into someone else’s lap. I and my hubby are fruitoholics. There is no single day when we don't have at least 6 types of fruits in our fruit basket. We both are totally addicted to fruits and can survive just eating them. When Maheshwari announced her fruit of the month I was overjoyed as she has chosen my favourite juicy, gorgeous Strawberries. What a better fruit for this month of romance and love than red, almost heart shaped strawberries. After drilling my brain and my hubby's brain for some ultra-special recipe I ended making this. Oh no!!! There is no frying, baking, steaming or cooking involved. I wanted to keep it simple yet delightful. So here is my entry of Fresh Strawberries served with dollop of Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce. This is what I usually serve as desserts when I have very limited time to prepare. And everybody loves having this light dessert after heavy meals. Overall preparation time is just five minutes and I don't have to say how it tastes. Fresh Strawberries with Ice Cre
