Jack Straw is the kind of politician who is rendered speechless in front of unadulterated truth. With him, it causes something similar to that of a fish that has been rudely hurled onto the beach by a freak wave. No freak waves this week, but on Tuesday morning I heard Straw on the Today Programme in conversation with "a prisoner". Evan Davis asked the inmate what was generally the problem. The pr

A couple of days ago, in Colorado, a cow confronted a bear. The young cub was trying to help itself to some apples from a tree at the corner of the cow’s field. The cow was annoyed (she’s called “Apple”, by the way) and proceeded to eject the bear. The confrontation was caught on camera and lasted about thirty minutes. The cow eventually won the battle and the juvenile bear left empty-hand

Straw-headed bulbul, probably building a new nest. One story to share: every time I took photos in the Hong Kong Park's Aviary, I would check my photos against the Aviary's birds collection list to find out what I had captured; after that I would go to Google to find more info. Except this one, the data on the list are accurate and correct so far.On the list, this bird is referred to as Yellow-crowned Bulbul. I googled with that name and found nothing. So I search with its scientific name - Pycnonotus zeylanicus. And I have it - the bird's common name is Straw-headed Bulbul. No wonder. Please show your support by voting for this blog at the Bloggers Choice Awards

The public debate about torture often involves a question similar to the following: "If an acknowledged terrorist knows about impending horrifying attack on our people, would you torture that man or not?" That is known as the "ticking bomb" question. Many presidential candidates were asked this question, most answered affirmatively. Also, if you listen to "conservative" media, this question is oft
THE Chianti region in the hills of Tuscany is the spiritual home of the sangiovese grape. With its black cherry and violet aromas, its earthy mineral flavors, its lively acidity and its sometimes dusty tannins, sangiovese speaks directly from the Italian soul.Nonetheless, the greatness of the sangiovese grape is winning out. In a tasting of 25 bottles from the Chianti Classico territory, the heartland of the Chianti region, the wine panel found many satisfying bottles. The good ones seemed to speak not only of the grape itself but of the Tuscan hills where sangiovese vines flourish as they do in few other places in the world.
For me it started with “The Dukes of Hazzard”, I was pretty young then, and when Daisy Mae strutted in wearing a straw hat, my heart skipped a beat. She was a fine looking lady on any day, but there was something special when she wore that straw hat, it seemed to ignite a primal fire that burns still.
What exactly does that straw hat do a man’s thought process (and I’m not talking about the obvious choice)? When we see a pretty girl wearing a straw hat, she seems like someone who is open, friendly and approachable; someone we’d enjoy spending time with, maybe a lot of time. But is that because of the hat, or simply because of a man’s libido?
It was a question I asked several different guys, their answers are below.
Joe (college sophomore). “When I see a girl wearing a

San Francisco's only Republican Straw Poll was canceled because of too many Ron Paul supporters. After Fred Thompson gave a speech, Ron Paul supporters started clamoring to vote. The woman in charge told the angry crowd the vote was canceled because she claimed too many people didn't pay the $33 dinner fee in order to vote, but when the Ron Paul supporters offered to pay $33 each for dinner and the right to vote, she then said there was no more discussion, there simply would be no vote this year. Last week we asked you if the U.S. should cut off aid to Pakistan. 67% of respondents said that we should, while 33% said we should not. Ish, possibly echoing the sentiments of many, said:
I would support continuing to give strictly humanitarian aid to NGOs in Pakistan (through USAID for example). But aid to Musharraf should cease.
I would agree. Perhaps this explains some of the votes in the “No” column.
This week, we reprise our primary straw poll to see if your views have changed about the candidates. We’ll be polling Democratic candidates this week and Republicans next week. Last time, Barack Obama and Mike Gravel won for the Democrats. So, if the Democratic presidential primary were held today, who would you vote for? Register your choice in the sidebar at right.

So we found R’s costume today! This past weekend we went to a big costume store but they didn’t have what she wanted…Strawberry Shortcake. She really liked a pirate costume we saw there and I loved it, but it was too small. Today, we tried another store… the person who worked there said she didn’t think they had SS. It was a party store, so they had pictures up of the costumes and if you wanted one they’d get it from the back…so all we had to look through were pictures high up above us… We didn’t see anything else, R was on a Strawberry mission. We turned to leave and R said “Strawberry!” and we all looked up… there she was! I can’t believe we didn’t see her and almost left with nothing. I told her if they had her size, it was hers. It fit!

Do you know that 7-10 year olds drink nearly ten cans of gassy drinks a week? Also according to Science Daily, Americans drink roughly 576 soft drinks every year, that is about one and a half cans a day for everyone in the United States. This causes serious havoc to their teeth due to sugars and acids attack the enamel. The exact damage depends on how you drink. If you drink from the can as shown below, then your molars get it. If you sip from your front teeth, they they suffer. Therefore, the safest way to drink those fizzy drinks is through a straw, into the back of your mouth. This minimise the length of time it is in contact with your teeth. But it is always encouraged to rinse your mouth afterwards.

- Oat straw has long been used to curb addictions, and in the past, it was used for alcoholics, drug addicts, and heroin smokers. If you treat overeating as an addiction, then oat straw could probably help. Oat straw, however, should be taken in low doses, as it has not yet been studied extensively.
