I've read numerous definitions over the years of what exactly qualifies as swing trading. I'm not claiming that my definition agrees with that of the "experts", but I will share it anyway. In fact, I'll take a second to define a bunch of different trading styles in terms of hold time. Here goes:Scalping = MinutesDay trading = hoursSwing Trading = days to weeksIntermediate Term trading = weeks to monthsLong term trading = months to yearsPretty simple, huh? These definitions are obviously very top level but I don't see a lot of value in defining them any more precisely. I think most investors today use some sort of combination of the styles listed above. I personally find myself doing a mix of the middle three with an emphasis on swing trading.
