The city of Stockholm is starting to construct its new railway system called the Citybanan, or the City Line. A new line is being built that runs for six kilometers underneath the city for commuter trains, along with two new stations. Well...we are back from Stockholm. Our week in Stockholm was great! friendly (sometimes crazy) people, allot of things to do (museums, sightseeings, cafe's etc.) and enough H&M's to fill your closet to the fullest haha. Two weeks left before we go to London, luckily we won't bring any luggage with us, just a day (back)pack. This will save us a lot of time with checking in.

Around these parts, when work gets busy, blogging gets slow. Unfortunately, it's been quite busy at work lately. However, now that a long weekend is here (a three day weekend of my own creation as Presidents' Day isn't a work holiday for me), I thought that I would take the opportunity to catch up on my backlog of posts.As you may recall, I paid a visit to Sweden late last year. I am going back to Växjö, at least until Christmas. For the fourth time it is time to pack my bags and take employment at the County board of Kronoberg, this time I will work with ancient monuments in areas that are due for reforesting. In Sweden one has to report to the Swedish Forest Agency when it is time to do felling of wood and reforesting and if there are ancient monuments in the area a special decision with information of the cultural heritage is sent to the land owner. This is principally what I will do until Christmas and hopefully a few months afterwards, we’ll see.It’s been a year with extensive travel, first to China, then to Växjö, to Haparanda and now to Växjö again. This is in many ways nice and fun but it is also a bit stressful, but it is nice to have a job.

A few days ago I visited the temporary exhibition Ötzi the iceman (Swedish link) from the Alps at the Museum of National Antiquities (Statens Historiska museum) in Stockholm. The exhibition started October the 5th.
The Ötzi find in the Alps 1991 is one of the most exciting finds from the Stone Age and a find that has brought a lot of new info regarding that Age in that region. More than anything Ötzi has given a face and a personal touch to Stone Age man. The find was made at the boarder between Austria and Italy, in the end it was concluded that he was found in Italy. For myself I don’t really give a damn, this is a find that belongs to humankind not a particular country, this is what should be a world heritage and not a petty fight amongst scientist or countries that did not exist when Ötzi died. Today Ötzi and his belongings are to be found at the archaeological museum of Bolzano.

The Vanity Restaurant & Café
The Vanity’s arcade cut lime-trees are a very characteristic part of Stockholm’s silhouette. They gave a lovely shade from the sun too, since this was a hot day it was needed.
Especially after climbing that 40 meter (131 feet) steep hill - it felt much higher than that actually. Not only for the climbing, butt even when viewing the city.
The Vanity’s Swedish name is Fåfängan and it’s a vantage-point on the hill near Danviken - as far east you can come at Södermalm (southern part of the city) with a wonderful view out over Stockholm.
It has been there since 1774 and has had many owners since then. It was renovated last time in 2005. Fåfänga is also an old Swedish word for pavilion or a gazebo in a garden or park.

Steamships started to frequently visit Stockholms archipelago already in the 1800’s and every year since 1964 The Archipelago Boat Day has been celebrated with a ship parade out from Strömkajen in Stockholm to Vaxholm.
The steamships that had passengers the 7th of June 2007 were Storskär, Norrskär, Mariefred, Blidösund plus the motorboats Västan, Enköping, Sandhamn and Sjögull. They were followed by the steamships Ejdern and Sjöfröken.
We were worried that we wouldn’t get any tickets, but we were lucky to get tickets on one of the steamships: S/S Norrskär. A beautiful old and genuine steam ship.
Norrskär was built in 1910 at Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstads AB (Shipbuilding) in Gothenburg and still has all the original interior intact, so it’s like being thrown back in time - a wonderful feeling, I hardly could stop smiling all the time :-)

Penny, as a two year old, you can be a real hassle. I thought when I shipped you off to Texas last week to stay with your grandparents I'd enjoy the break from your mischievous antics. I'd have chance to nap, shop, drool, or whatever else I thought I'd been missing out on. But much to my shock I spent a good amount of the time thinking of you. Your grandpa is bringing you back home tomorrow and it's a good thing too because I've been nostalgic the past few days. I find myself missing the weirdest things... I miss chasing you across the park as you make a break for the sleeping homeless man because you want to "snuggle" with him.I miss correcting you when you yell, "DANGIT" every time you drop something.I miss coming in after your nap and finding that instead of sleeping, you have taken the afternoon to paint your entire body with poop.I miss soiling all my towels to mop up the flooded bathroom after you have overfilled the bathroom sink yet again.I miss you yelling from my room,
Last Wednesday Beyoncé was spotted shopping at Gucci in Stockholm, Sweden - she looks gorgeous! OMG and B-itch get that camera out that girl’s face so close like that! I’m surprised Beyoncé didn’t swing on that random individual. These fans just take it too far…

The Stockholm Tunnelbana has three lines encompassing 110km of track and 100 stations of which 64km and 55 stations are underground. Several of the deep underground stations are cut into solid rock which were left with cave-like ceilings. The builders carved fascinating artistic objects out of the rock.
