But isn't it great to hear the sound of speculators losing billions of dollars on market volatility. Has oil topped out? Have financials bottomed out? Has stagflation set in? On and on, investors ask economists and financial gurus these questions. The experts look into their "crystal balls" and come up with the usual long or short winded explanations of what is happen
A bullish market discounts the element of dividend yields but they gain importance in a falling market.
The dividend yield ratio is computed by dividing the annual dividend per share with the current stock price of the company. So,if the annual dividend is around 40% it means that you gets rs 4 on every rs 100 you spend buying the stocks. This implies that as the stock prices rises, its dividend

The S&P500 closed yesterday at 1,315.22 points. The first time the S&P500 stood at this level was April 1999. This past decade in the US stock markets has been a long-term investor’s nightmare. I’m referring mostly to retirement savings and households of course. The following chart is of the S&P500 index since 1999:The rule of thumb in long-term saving is that stocks, over time, are the best investment option available as volatility gets averaged out and all that is left is to enjoy the average returns over the years.Another rule is that the younger you are the riskier your investments should be since you have enough time to average out poor performance. While financial advisors work according to these rules the academic world has had problems substantiating them on a solid

At lunch today the top story on BBC news was the dramatic drops of global stock markets throughout the morning. All major banks have taken a battering. The FTSE has lost about 3.5% today as I write this, the US markets open shortly and are expected to open deep in to the red.

At the end of last week we saw technical triangle for broad US indices. Pattern was crossed down and shares are going down this week. We are approaching stronger technical support line. For S&P 500 level 1300 points was topped on May 06 and tested one month ago. Dow Jones Industrial average has tested level of 12000 points already three times. After Chinese sell-off last year, one month ago and just now. NASDAQ Composite is not as interesting from technical point of view. It gave up all gains and all 2007's resistance against credit meltdown is away. Index is well behind Chinese sell-off bottom and another resistance line could be seen at psychological level 2000 points. This level has been tested 2 times in last 3 years.Related tickers: (DIA), (SPY), (QQQQ)

Especially Vietnamese index had nice bull run in 2006 since Vietnam entered World Trade Organization.Winner for 2007 is China CSI 300 even thought early on spring 2007 there was global sell of triggered just by China. About Ukraine I wrote in previous post. Index is mainly composed of large caps compared to others indices in emerging markets. Main topics for Slovenian market were Euro adoption and government pension funds fuelling equity market. In Bangladesh investors were attracted by government pledge to sell state enterprises.China CSI 300 index 179.75%Ukranian PFTS index 135.41%Slo

Global credit crisis intensifies
Guardian Unlimited - The crisis
Almost 1000 points down in a day!! As per a report investors have lost over Rs 2.7 trillion in the last 2 days!!! Almost all the major stocks have corrected in the range of 10-18% from their day's highs. This has mostly been on account of funds selling off on account of uncertainly on political front. Now we can only wait and watch and see what happens tomorrow. Let's hope for the best!

Markets ended relatively flat today after a rather dramatic day!! SENSEX touched 17000 mark but closed at 16921.39, 21.85 points up from yesterday. It took 6 days for SENSEX to reach 17K from 16K!!Although Technology shares have being lagging behind for quite some time now but they were the major propellers today. Satyam gained 4.81% while Wipro closed 4.33% higher than yesterday. Banking shares also had a relatively good day today.
Stock markets across Europe and the US had their worst day in several months. In London the main share index fell more than 200 points - the biggest one day points drop in over four years.
Everywhere the gloom was partly a response to new figures underlying the slump in the US housing market. Poor company profits data and a jump in oil prices also played a part. But, perhaps most important, the markets are gripped by worry that banks and investors generally are becoming much less willing to take on risk.
For some time financial institutions have been reeling from an expected 100 billion dollars of losses from low income Americans defaulting on loans to buy their homes. Now there’s concern about the corporate debt market - on Wednesday it emerged that banks were unable to find other investors willing to share the risk in a high profile corporate takeover, the 12 billion dollar buy-out of the US car giant Chrysler.
Other planned takeovers could also be in trouble. Analysts are warn
From India DailyChinese stock market is falling like a stone. The Indian stock market fueled by American and European financial institutions faces the biggest bubble burst in the history. The CSI 300 Index dropped 292.52, or 7.7 percent, to close at 3511.43. After the government tripled the tax on share trades to 0.3 percent, Chinese stick market has tumbled 16 percent from its May 29 peak.Indian and other emerging markets are in deep trouble too. The fuel there comes from American and European financial institutions who have gathered in the shore of Mumbai to reap apparent benefits of Indian economy after failing to gain much in their own respective turfs. The bubble burst will be known in the history as the biggest financial meltdown in the history Western financial infrastructure.[Read more]
From Japan TimesMore than a month has passed since the Shanghai stock market plunge sent shock waves throughout global markets in late February. Although share prices have since stabilized, volatility rife in foreign-currency markets, with the dollar-yen rate sometimes fluctuating nearly 2 yen a day.Stock markets are prone to synchronized global downturns when new types of shock arrive. But it should be noted here that the biggest factor behind the markets' recent problems is excess liquidity.Even in a global chain reaction, different reasons particular to each country work to push down share prices, and the size of the decline varies. In the United States, share prices are under downward pressure from pessimism over the U.S. strategy for Iraq, and the possibility that tons of housing loans extended by subprime mortgage lenders will go sour.In Japan, political uncertainty over local elections and the House of Councilors elections in July are casting a pall over the stock market. In Chin
From RedBoliviaHong Kong --China's stock markets boomed last year, with Shanghai's benchmark Composite Index going up 130 percent. In recent weeks, however, the market has been increasingly volatile, generating worries about this year's returns. It is down about eight percent from its record high of 2,994 points, which it hit last month.Liang Zhou is the China research manager in Shanghai for Lipper, a company that studies investment fund performances.
