This acrylic painting is a visual expression of my musical experience of the "Rite of Spring". Synesthesia is a dual sensory experience. An impact on one of the senses causes a simultaneous response from another sense, as a visual response from a sound. Color and tone are the essence of painting as pitch and rhythm are of music. I stitched this musical painting together using four hot press boards under a black matte board. The "Rite of Spring" by Igor Stravinksy is a series of episodes depicting a wild pagan spring ritual. Wise elders are seated in a circle and are observing the dance before the death of the girl whom they are offering as a sacrifice to the god of Spring in order to gain his benevolence. Hey, I found this cool history of the brick stitch which I thought I'd share. I've included an extract of it here.JulieBrick Stitch is a very old beading stitch. It is a relative to peyote stitch. Both brick stitch samplers can be made using peyote stitch if the patterns worked vertically instead of horizontally.Native Americans have used brick stitch for many years. The Comanches used brick stitch extensively, as well as peyote (gourd) stitch for decoration of bags, cradles and other items. Some Iroquois wrist and hair bands were worked in bead stitches that kept each row of beads offset much like brick stitch and perhaps was a precursor to the stitch. The Totadaho Belt (wampum), dated late 1750's is probably worked in long strips of bugles and then stitched together, making an offset appearance that looks like brick stitch. Old, brick stitch beadwork has been found in Guatemala worked in antique beads size 22/0 or smaller. The originators are unknown. Beadwork from Africa and t

Well, its after midnight, so I guess I missed another day of blogging.
Its not my fault. I blame my job. I told them I HAD to get home early so I could blog and they said, “You, clean the store, now!”
Speaking of work, around 8ish tonight it occurred to me that at that point in time I was the SENIOR member on staff. INCLUDING the manager I had worked at that store longer than any other person IN the store at that time.
I would have taken more pride in that if I hadn’t been tired and cranky already at that point in time.
I didn’t get to leave until 1 and a half hours after the store closed tonight. God, how I hate the holidays.
And remember my smushed hand. I have a nice bruise there, getting darker as I speak. The swelling is mostly gone, though it still hurts. Hurts A LOT when I put my hand in my pocket. -pout-

Recently, in my latest layout title "Adventurous" in my family gallery, I've stitched my buttons to create a unique embellishment. This is an idea inspired by a challenge that I'm in.Actually I've created the buttons from scratch out of chipboard and some pattern papers. You can use any kind of premade buttons to do this. Later I've used a red thread to stitch the buttons onto the layout using a unique stitch design. Try this idea in your next layout to create more unique embellishments.

In a society where each person strives to create his/her own fashion identity, mass produced fashion items fail to deliver consumer's needs to be unique. In a competitive and saturated eyewear market, sheer volume of similar products forces even the most "unique" item to be common. By allowing consumers to design their own eyewear, "Stitch" breaks out of convention and gives each consumer power to create his/her truly unique eyewear. "Stitch" provides simple, modern shape with tiny holes on its frame that can easily be stitched with threads to create abundant designs. Own a pair of "Stitch" and step into a world of individuality.Designer: Seungyoub Oh

This post is for the bead-workers. There is a beading stitch, known as the brick stitch that is useful when increasing or decreasing the number of beads used in a row. It also provides a nice finish with hidden threads.

These meticulously handcrafted earrings by LP Designs are a wonderfully fresh twist on the 60's fad of macrame. Made from chocolate brown cord that is handknotted over wire, I especially love the pretty touch of blue (brown and blue is one of my favorite color combinations incidently!). Cute and flirty, they look like they would just sway gently on the ears. It is hard to believe that they are made with knots and bare hands. I am wondering what stitch makes the strongest possible seam? I am wanting to attach a patch pocket inside of a purse and I don't want to take a chance that it might unravel or pull away from the lining. The last one I did I used a zigzag stitch and went over it twice and it still came off! I am also thinking about the best stitch to reinforce the handle attachment points with. I am finding so many unfamiliar brands on the market and I am not sure which ones to avoid or buy. These are the ones I have found: Consew, Econosew, Gemsy, Yamata, Reliable, and Blindstitcher.
I have read the posts here on PR. Gigi Louis recommends Tacsew. Is Blindstitcher a Tacsew???

I am sewing a vintage apron pattern and want to do an insertion strip of a contrasting fabric to the skirt. I have a serger but I just don't know which technique to use! Both fabrics are of the same weight (they are Michael Miller cotton fabrics--like a quilting fabric, I guess). The skirt is a large flower print and I'm making the pockets in a small dot print and want to insert a strip of the small dotted fabric too. I can't "see" how to do it. What would be a good decorative stitch? Would a thread showing on the right side be too busy? If I did a flatlock stitch, do I finish the fabric edges first? If so, how? Suggestions? If I can manage it, I'm going to attach a scan of the pattern--it is view 3 that I am making.Last post by lilyofthevalley at Wed 19 Dec 2007 04:27:56 PM Total posts: 2

Hi Everyone,
I am using some slippery fabric for a project and would like to stick the layers together before I start sewing (to avoid any shifting). I've heard of people using Steam-a-Seam for this purpose, but I just happen to have some Stitch Witchery which I have never used and wonder if I can use this instead of Steam-a-Seam, so are they interchangeable? what's the difference?

I would like to experiment with my Viking taper stitch, and I see the rough concept, but I can't get a grip on it without some sort of tutorial. Anyone know of one, want to write one for PR, or have any personal experience that would be a starting point to just play with this and see how it goes? I have never tried it, and there isn't a whole lot out there on this.
Appreciate all leads...

When you backstitch (after stitching), do you have to still pull the thread thru and tie it off? Or does the backstitching close the stitch so it won't unravel? :confused:Last post by Perfect Fit at Mon 30 Jun 2008 01:32:41 PM Total posts: 5
