It's nice having Stephen back at home again and he is happy to be in his own bed. We have a rather untraditional approach to raising our very medically involved children. Stephen's bed sits in our living room so he can always remain involved in whatever is going on around the house. You may note that I generally like the book I am writing about. That is because I only write about the ones I have read and frankly why read something you don’t like. I liked “Flight of the Intruder” which is the prequel for this book better. Not that this is an entertaining book, it just wasn’t as entertaining. Coonts books are all high octane, peddle to the metal type of reading, full of manly men and womany women. (womany??) I have noted that friends of mine who happen to be either pilots or marines or god forbid both have a tendency to be a tad overblown macho wise. You’ll see a lot of that in this book. Johnny laying around looking bored and pitiful while he recovers from his hit and run car accident. It's going to be a long eight weeks. A great big thank you to all who have written to ask about Stephen. Yes , he still is in the hospital recovering from the tracheostomy surgery. He is still receiving TPN feedings but they are hoping to be able to operate and take care of his digestive problems later on this week or next. We are not expecting him to be released for at least another month.We finally heard back from the counseling center that we have been trying to get one of our teens in. We took the last available spot for counseling so now our Saturdays are booked all day with counseling appointments. Stephen isn't doing well at all tonight. The hospital has just called to inform us that they are moving him back into intensive care and placing him back on the respirator because he is in serious respiratory distress. I guess that "slight" puncture of his lung during surgery wasn't as "slight " as they were saying. He has only been off the respirator since yesterday and they pulled the chest tube then also. Bob is heading back to the hospital now to see just what is going on. I hate when we admit our special needs kids with one problem and they end up with other totally unnecessary problems. We work so hard here to keep these kids safe and healthy.

We just received word from Stephen's pediatrician that he has a perforated bowel and peritonitis. Bob just ran off to the hospital to sign all the necessary paperwork to operate. Please do keep my little guy in prayer he has been so fragile this past year. He never really fully recuperated after his last bout with the perforated stomach episode and has pretty much been wasting away in the last year. Stephen was born with holoproencephaly which left him with severe cerebral palsy and is fed through a gastrostomy tube.

Stephen has once again been admitted to the hospital with the same problems he has had for the past several years. His digestive system just closes down and refuses to work anymore. Sometimes it just takes a rest and starts working again on it's own but last time he ended up in the hospital for months and ended up with two perforations in his stomach which nobody could ever figure out how and why it happened. One day the endoscopy showed no holes and 24 hours later when he started really deteriorating they did another and found not one but two. He really has great doctors and the hospital staff there know him well and treat him like a king.
