The American war deserter is one of an estimated 700 U.S. military personnel currently residing in Canada seeking refuge from the long reach of the U.S. Navy. On June 3, MPs voted 137 to 110 in favour of a resolution that called on the federal government to allow U.S. war resisters to apply for permanent resident status in Canada and to cease all deportation and removal proceedings against t

LA Auto Show 2007: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG stateside debut
Los Angeles played host to the North American premier of the acclaimed Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. The hotrod sport sedan from the Stuttgart is the three-pointed star’s eight-cylinder answer to the Audi RS4 and BMW M3, and Benz’s stubborn obsession with the torque converter aside, it presents a compelling case for those on the market for a big ferocious 451-hp 6.3L V8 in a small German package.Mercedes even brought out the head of AMG, all the way from Affalterbach, Germany, to unveil the car personally. The sheet was lifted to reveal a resplendent (that’s right, resplendent!) C63 in a pearl white that’d make a First Lady’s jewelry box jealous. Click on the images above and below to get a good look at the C63 AMG, because with over 450 horsepower, it may be the only chance you have to see it sitting still. Samsung's P2 and T10 Bluetooth players: Stateside in September
Samsung's P2 and T10 Bluetooth players: Stateside in SeptemberReady for it? We've got the release date for Samsung's tasty new Bluetooth media players with FM tuners: the YP-P2 and YP-T10. September. Ok, it's not so much a date as a range, but mark your calendars anyway and get to saving. How much? Good question, Sammy ain't saying, but you'd best start combing your pockets for the couple of hundie they'll demand. Think about it: the P2 (pictured) brings a proper 16:9 widescreen, 3-inch touchscreen display with up to 8GB of audio/video-hungry flash while the T10 wraps 4GB of your audio and video in a 0.3-inch, super thin dose of sex-ay. Just check the gallery and full specs after the break if you need more convincing.(Via Engadget.)

Shin Chuka Taisen Coming Stateside? (Gamefly Watch)
UFO Interactive has published a handful of relatively quirky titles in the United States over the last year. Though the games have been hit and miss in quality, their lower priced label has been successful enough for the company to warrant in investing in procuring the publishing rights to more Japanese titles. If a rash of updates are to be believed on the Gamefly website, it seems that the horizontal arcade shooter Shin Chuka Taisen may be coming stateside from the company under the name Monkey King: The Legend Begins. With no information provided from the game's link yet and with UFO Interactive not responding to a request for inquiry into the title, I'm unable to confirm for certain whether or not this title is the Starfish developed shooter. However, the name of the game, release date, and history of UFO Interactive all seems to work in the favor that we may be playing Shin Chuka Taisen on American systems by the time the year is up.The second game that is of interest for thos

AAMA Gala Event Details (Virtua Fighter 5 Coming Stateside)
Arcade Heroes, courtesy of Kevin Williams of The Stinger Report, posted some details of the AAMA Gala held earlier this month. Everything from America's Army to an upright cabinet of Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift was showcased on the show floor. One of the surprise announcements coming out of the event dealt with Sega finally outlining plans to bring Virtua Fighter 5 stateside, despite it already being available on home consoles. I'm a bit shocked by this decision, but I can definitely understand their motivation to try to compete with the waves that Tekken 6 is sure to make when it is finally released. It may also be surprising to see what sort of response this also reinvigorates into the console versions of Virtua Fighter 5. I wasn't able to establish whether or not the version Sega is bringing stateside is based on the latest arcade release or whether or not the game will support the .NET features (Virtua Fighter 4 didn't when it was released here). I'll have more inform

Hori Wii Fighting Stick Coming Stateside
According to a recent update on Gamestop.com, Hori's fighting stick designed for the Wii will be released here in the United States in November. Though the arcade stick has not yet been released to the Japanese market, I have been patiently awaiting my import pre-order so I can retire my Classic Controller and play Guilty Gear Accent Core with a bit more style. The price point for the controller is a easy to swallow $49.99, and if any indication is given by the recent popularity of Hori products on the second hand market, it would probably be in your best interest to pre-order the joystick so you won't have to deal with the possibilities of being unable to find one after its release. I usually don't encourage gamers to provide Gamestop and EB Games an interest free loan, however, after seeing the prices of the Dead or Alive 4 stick skyrocket on the second hand market, I can't help but think this arcade stick will see the same sort of increase in price. With the target audience

      Starscream Masterpiece to Hit Stateside
It looks like Transformers fans who aren’t hip to buying imported bots are in for a treat, Hasbro is bringing everyone’s favorite jerk stateside. Start lurking in Wal-Mart aisles in September, because he’s an exclusive to the big blue box. I’m not sure if anyone refers to Wal-Mart as the big blue box, but I think we should start. Anyway, Starscream rules so I’m pretty happy to see this guy head on over here. Sure he was a ginormous dick, but he was such a lovable dick. It was also sweet that he got turned to dust in the film just when he finally usurped Megatron. Poor guy never caught a break. toy, toy collecting, action figure, Transformer, Wal-Mart

South African Made C-Class Heads Stateside
iAfrica reports that DaimlerChrysler [sic] has sent its first shipment of South Africa-made Mercedes C-Class sedans to the U.S. Some 380 left-hand drive Mercs left the Republic's East London manufacturing plant on Thursday and hopped a boat for Baltimore, Jacksonville and Long Beach. The automaker will repeat the process every two weeks for the foreseeable future, devoting 70 percent of the plant's capacity to servicing the U.S. market. Will the Merc's prestige boost South Africa's image as a major manufacturing center for the German carmaker and others? Not surprisingly, the local pols are saying amen to that. "The mere fact that we are exporting internationally means that we are now on the international map," said Buffalo City municipal spokesperson Darby Gounden "However, the manufacturing of the C-class gives us in the region an opportunity to improve confidence and our image in world markets." As for U.S. consumer acceptance of South African-bu

Th!nk To Sell City Car Stateside. Or Not.
Automotive News reports that Th!nk is about to offer their new City car for sale in the USA. The Th!nk City glides from rest to 30mph (ha!) in 6.5 seconds, tops-out at just over 60 mph and sports ABS, dual airbags and air con. Th!nk claims she'll go (slightly) more than 100 miles between charges. Obviously, not a road tripper, but for running down the street to buy orange juice, not a bad option. Especially if your bicycle has a flat. Aside from folks being put off by the City's diminutive size, we only foresee one real hurdle -- the damn price. Th!nk wants you (yes you) to cough-up somewhere between $15k and $17k for the City. That's some serious cash-- especially when compared to $12k for a Smart ForTwo or $15k for a "real" car like a Suzuki SX4. On top of tha
