Budget-conscious travellers to New York could make significant savings on their hotel bills by choosing to stay at nearby Staten Island, and taking advantage of the free Staten Island Ferry to go sightseeing in Manhattan and the other Big Apple boroughs. With hotels in Manhattan amongst the most expensive in the world, it makes perfect economic sense to stay just over the Hudson on Staten Island,

Kitchens need to be inspected very thoroughly. Because they are one of the most used rooms in any home, there is a tremendous amount of traffic that goes through every kitchen. As well, they are one of the most expensive rooms to refurbish in the house, especially in you live in Staten Island.

FORECLOSURE ST. ON STATEN ISLANDby NY Post - snip:Welcome to New York City's foreclosure capital - tree-lined Blackford Avenue on Staten Island. On two tiny blocks in the Port Richmond neighborhood, eight houses are in foreclosure and five other families have received formal notices from banks informing them they are in danger of the same. In the first quarter of 2008, 174 foreclosures were filed on Staten Island - the highest per-capita rate of any borough, up from 34 foreclosures in the same period last year, according to data compiled by PropertyShark.com, a real-estate search Web site. As the city finds itself in the maw of the national housing crisis, these buyers - many lured by subprime and other adjustable-rate loans to buy houses out of their price range - are now losing their h

Let’s pretend you are a cop and you find a 14 year old high school freshman out egging cars on Halloween. Do you a) take the boy home, report his activities to his parents and let them handle the dicipline or b) drive him out to a swamp in the middle of nowhere and leave him in only his boxers and socks?
I think we all know I wouldn’t be posting this if the answer was A.
Officers Thomas Elliassen and Michael Danese caught the prankster throwing eggs at cars in a 120th Precinct neighborhood about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, the source said.
The cops drove the teen to a swampy area of the 122nd Precinct, dropped him off wearing only boxer shorts and socks and left, the source said. The boy, Rayshawn Moreno of Graniteville, walked to a Burlington Coat Factory store on South Ave. and asked a security guard there to call his parents, who picked him up, his dad said.
“Rayshawn was taken to a secluded, remote area, stripped of his clothes, beaten by the officers and left for dead,&
In the following press release U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Christopher J. Christie (pictured left) announced that a Staten Island, N.Y., dentist was convicted by a federal jury today for operating a scheme in which he fraudulently obtained $1.36 million in mortgages and spent the proceeds on luxury items including the purchase of a 46-foot yacht, a North Carolina residence and a GMC Yukon Denali. After less than two hours of deliberations today, a jury convicted Terrance D. Stradford, 46, a.k.a. “Wayne Sellers,” of all 24 counts contained in a Superseding Indictment. Stradford was convicted on one count each of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and tax evasion. Stradford was also convicted of three counts of wire fraud and 18 counts of money laundering. Stradford also consented to the entry of a criminal forfeiture order in the amount of $720,000, which the government sought as property derived from proceeds of the
Of all the things people have been getting furious over in regards to the GTA franchise, this is probably the most unexpected of them all. Staten Island is pissed off because they’ve been left out of the upcoming GTA IV.
In a piece written by the Staten Island Advance, one man is quoted as saying it’s a slight against Staten Island, but added that he would still buy the game.
Albert Albanese, 21, of Grant City, was playing at the Video Game Arena in New Dorp last night and called the Island’s absence a slight on the borough.
“If you’re gonna base a game on the five boroughs and you leave out one of the boroughs, it’s kind of unsettling,” he said, but added that he’d still probably buy the game.
Way to show your convictions, dickweed! “Sure, it’s an insult to Staten Island and they should definitely remedy it, but… I’ll buy it anyways.” What the hell, dude?
Of course, Staten Island is the only place in
We didn’t believe in the Easter Bunny growing up. Never even considered it. Santa Claus was an impossible myth for my parents to perpetuate with all of our older, wiser friends. But the tooth fairy? She was practically a member of the family. My mother had created an entire background story and personality for our dear fairy. Her name was Maxine and she lived on Staten Island. Since we lived in Connecticut, Maxine took the Staten Island Ferry to reach our house which explained why she always arrived so late at night. Those of us lucky enough to loose a tooth would sometimes hear her in the hall outside our bedroom, pleading with my mother to not have to come in. Maxine was shy and didn’t want to bother us poor children. We’d hear her obnoxious New York accent and my mom’s polished English going back and forth until finally my mother would relent and sneak into our rooms to retrieve the tooth for her.I adored Maxine's emotional visits. We hardly ever got “real” New Yorkers i
Even with last year's Democratic landslide, there was still one Republican standing in the House from New York City.Rep. Vito Fossella, a Republican who represents New York's 13th district, including Staten Island and a small piece of Southwestern Brooklyn won reelection against a low-profile Democrat 57%-43%. Fossella represents a seat that is politically equally divided, and has been represented by a Republican for more than two decades, but Democrats have the district on their radar.Rep. Anthony Weiner from Brooklyn and Queens (my congressman) recently pointed out a potential opponent for Fossella in 2008 while speaking to a Democratic club in Staten Island;"It would be great to have Mike fighting for us in Congress instead of Vito Fossella," Weiner told the crowd, which included Cusick. He is speaking of New York State Assemblyman Mike Cusick (D-Staten Island), who represents a huge swath of the middle of the island, including some of the island's (and New York City's) fastest g
