It’s widely held that Robert Plant now loathes “Stairway to Heaven”. According to a recent biography, Plant balked at the thought of playing the anthem at the Atlantic Records Anniversary Concert in 1988. Corporate push came to shove, however, and Plant capitulated.
One suggestion for the reason he shies away from a Zeppelin reunion is the specter of doing a fifty-city tour in which he’d be forced to sing what was called “that bloody wedding song” fifty times. “Stairway to Heaven” is clearly the best known and most popular Led Zeppelin song. It is probably the deepest song Led Zeppelin wrote, as well as one of the most controversial songs in history as to its exact meaning.
Although it is one of the most, if not the most, popular rock ballad song ever, it was never released as a single because of its length, which Led Zeppelin refused to shorten. In spite of this, the 40-year-old “Stairway to Heaven” is still the most requested and most played song on FM radio stations in the United States.
The song’s instrumentals were written by guitarist Jimmy Page and vocalist Robert Plant “over a long period, the first part coming at Bron-Yr-Aur one night”. (Bron-Yr-Aur was Robert Plant’s family 18th century “holiday” cottage in Wales where band members often went there after grueling concert tours.)

For the past three months the building's elevators have been under repair. During that entire period of time only one elevator has been in service. Don't know if this can be retro-fitted, but even if it does not; this is an idea we are going to keep in our special smart ideas drawer until such a time when we are building or renovating a staircase. From the picture it looks like they have installed drawers in just a couple of the steps, but imagine doing it in all the straight ones. With three pairs of shoes to a drawer and let us say ten steps, that makes room for 30(!) pairs of shoes.
