The advantage to a multi-purpose stadium is that a singular infrastructure and piece of real estate can support both teams in terms of transportation and playing area, and money (often public money) that would have been spent to support infrastructure for two stadiums could be spent elsewhere. Unlike their predecessors which were generally built in the middle of the cities, most multi-purpose stadium

Some coworkers who are Yankee fans didn't think his attempt to curse the Bronx Bombers was very funny, so they got their jackhammers and successfully dug up the shirt. Yankee management has gone to the local district attorney to see if they can bring any charges against the worker who buried the shirt. The jersey is being sent to the Jimmy Fund in Boston where it will be auctioned off with all the money going to help in the fight against juvenile cancer.

Bronx Resident Skipped School to Become the First Fan to Enter Yankee Stadium
To be 'first' in most categories is a great honor, but to be the first fan to ever step through the gates of now legendary Yankee Stadium is something very special. So special that Malcolm Drummond -- who lived but a mere blocks away from Yankee Stadium when it opened in 1923 -- bailed on his school responsibilities that April 18; determined to be the very first stadium patron.Drummond's proximity to the Stadium was indeed an advantage, but it didn't hurt that he arrived at the corner of River Ave. and 161st Street hours before Yankee starter Bob Shawkey would throw his first pitch. Drummond's resourcefulness paid off handsomely. As the Bronx Home News detailed in the fifth paragraph of its April 18 evening edition, Drummond (whose complete address is printed) appears to be the first to hav

      Great Yankee Stadium Reading Material
In today's New York Post, there were two articles from the past:Cheers & Tears For A Legend, written by Jimmy Cannon about Babe Ruth Day at Yankee Stadium from Sunday, April 27, 1947.And It All Started With A Bang, written by Robert F. Kelley which appeared in the April 18, 1923 New York Evening Post, about the first game at the then brand new Yankee Stadium. They really don't make sports writers like they used to. Though, Mike Vaccaro's article about The Stadium's nickname, also from today's Post, is very good. The Post is also counting down the top 25 moments at Yankee Stadium. Today was moment No. 25; Game 7 of the 1926 World Series, a game that ended with Babe Ruth getting thrown out trying to steal 2nd base in a one-run game. (Could you imagine if A-Rod did that?)

      Beijing National Stadium, Part II
Warning: Don't stand still for too long!If you stand still for long around the housing compound across the road from National Stadium in Beijing you are likely to score a fresh coat of brilliant white paint. Workers are swarming over the buildings and anything else that stands still long enough throughout the compound and applying a generous coat of white paint. It is certainly giving everything a shiny new feel before the Olympic Games commence. Even the flag poles and the panda used for the Asian Games some 20 years ago are feeling the stroke of the painters brush!Hotels in BeijingBuy 2008 Beijing Olympics TicketsBooks on China and BeijingTagsBeijing China National Stadium Beijing 0lympicsBook the Fujian Hotel Beijing Book the Beijing Qianyuan International Business Hotel

      1998 Stadium Renovation Proposal
Did you know that in 1998 when the Yankees were considering moving to the west side of Manhattan, or even worse, New Jersey, Bronx Borough President, Fernando Ferrer, proposed a renovation plan for the current Yankee Stadium? I didn't. Earlier this week StadiumPage.com posted several pictures, and an article from the New York Times about the proposal. Here is a part of the article from the Times:Mr. Ferrer's proposal, called Yankee Village, comes a month before George M. Steinbrenner 3d, the Yankees' principal owner, is expected to announce his decision on where the team will play after its lease with the city expires in 2002. Mr. Steinbrenner has long threatened to move his team to New Jersey or Manhattan, complaining that the Bronx stadium has too few luxury boxes and parking spaces, and

Cards Blank Colorado 3-0 at Busch Stadium
Brad Thompson and three relievers combined to throw a seven-hit shutout as the Cardinals blanked the Rockies, 3-0, at Busch Stadium. Thompson went six and-two-thirds, giving up six of the seven hits and fanning six. He also drove in a run at the plate, while Troy Glaus went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Jason Isringhausen picked up his first save of the season as St. Louis took two-of-three in the series from the defending National League champions. Garrett Atkins was 3-for-4 for the Rox in the losing effort. Ubaldo Jimenez took the loss, giving up all three runs on eight hits. Colorado took the season-opener before dropping the following two contests.

      Play.com Wembley Stadium Live Event
Last month my girlfriend and I attended the Play.com live event where thousands of punters came to Wembley Stadium to play the latest videogames. On show were a variety of games for all ages as well as other things happening on stage compared by Iain Lee and the bewildered-looking Gemma Atkinson. Because I was walking round [...]

Baseball returns to the Bronx, and Kearny was well represented at Yankee Stadium
See — we don't completely hate the Yankees here at The Hudson Line. After all, some of our most loyal readers like the Yanks, like Manny and Jesse Ventoso, of Kearny, who were fortunate to be able to attend the very last Opening Day at the Stadium in the Bronx. Thanks, Manny, for sending in the photos!
