Google tries to make its spreadsheets more like wikis
In a strange move, Google has added a new feature to Google Docs that enables users to allow anyone to edit a spreadsheet, advertising the option as a way to make a spreadsheet like a wiki. Previously, individuals could be invited to view or edit a spreadsheet, but they had to create an account with Google after entering a custom URL that effectively served as a security-through-obscurity barrier

Convert a Spreadsheet to an HTML Table [Spreadsheets] When you want to turn that giant spreadsheet into an HTML table without wrangling too many TD's and TR's by hand, you can use a formula to generate the HTML tags for you. The Design Intellection blog describes how to use the =CONCATENATE("text", cell, "text") spreadsheet formula to turn a row of data into an HTML table row. On Friday, Kevin pointed out a web-based HTML table generator that's a simple, fast solution for small tables; but if your data's already in a spreadsheet and the word "concatenate" doesn't make you want to run screaming, this may be a better way to go. XSS vulnerability found by Billy (BK) Rios in Google Spreadsheets
Now, normally when I find an XSS vulnerability on a popular domain I just report it to the appropriate security team and move on, but this one is interesting…By taking advantage of the content-type returned by spreadsheets.google.com (and a caching flaw on the part of Google), I was able to pull off a full blown XSS against the google.com domain. For those of you who don’t understand what this means, allow me to elaborate. When Google sets their cookie, it is valid for all of their sub domains. So, when you log into gmail (mail.google.com), your gmail cookie is actually valid for code.google.com, docs.google.com, spreadsheets.google.com…and so on. If someone (like me) finds an XSS vulnerability in any one of these sub domains, I’ll be able to hijack your session and access any g

How to backup Google Docs and Spreadsheets ?
As someone who usually work on three different PCs and a laptop, i find Google Docs and Spreadsheets very convenient, due to the fact i can access my documents from each of my computers. As time went by, i started to accumulate lots of docs and spreadsheets in my Google account, and i asked myself how should i backup them. I knew i could open each and every document and just save it as a Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word document, as well as a PDF document, but i was looking for a more powerful method. I searched a bit and found a nice Greasemonkey script that helped me to accomplish my task. Greasemonkey is a Mozilla Firefox addin that lets you modify the way your Firefox pages look and run.  Note that Greasemonkey scripts work only with Firefox, so if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you will need to install Firefox before moving forward. So here’s what you should do in order to backup your Google docs and Spreadsheets: Open your Firefox

      Google Docs & Spreadsheets
This looks pretty fucking cool. I wonder if I will write my DPhil thesis on this in the end. Can it do footnotes, I wonder? Maybe I could send drafts to my supervisor this way. Footnotes would be good, though, and some sort of compatibility with EndNote or RefWorks. I actually wrote this post in Google Docs & Spreadsheets and posted it to my blog from there. This is really just a trial post, playing around with it.This is what quotations look like. I hope there isn't a box around this.I imagine in future journalists will be using this kind of thing - if they aren't already.Doesn't look like the title of the document has been imported into Blogger. It should be called Google Docs & Spreadsheets. I'll write my ickleReviews with this in future. Better than using the WYSIWYG editor in Blogger, although that has improved; and better than posting them by email, which sometimes messes up the formatting.

Google Spreading Spreadsheets Over the Internet
Maybe it’s because I’m bad at math and saved by using spreadsheet formula functions or maybe it’s because I’m just an “attention to detail dude” and the thought of throwing important data into a word or plain text document scares me. Now enter Google Docs & Spreadsheets, an online spreadsheet application that has most of the functionality of Excel, sharing and editing with others in real time, editing from anywhere in the world and massive import and export features all of which elevated me into a much bigger spreadsheet supporter.
