Spooky rocks that move by themselves
"Inside Death Valley National Park in Racetrack Playa you can find these interesting rocks that apparently move by themselves. They're on the floor of the playa with long trails behind them.Somehow these rocks move across the playa, cutting a furrow in the sediment as they move. No one knows or can give a real explanation, and no one has ever seen them in motion. Some of these rocks are really heavy, so how do they move?"[via funbee]

I thought it was fun!Another light, heartwarming musical film of the year, but oops, I'm wrong!Few minutes ago, I just watched Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and I feel like I'm gonna throw up. It's crazy barbaric! Now I know why it's called The Demon Barber. For those who haven't been able to see the film and/or the broadway musical and/or have read the book, watch the film! Haha! If you want to know what it feels like from a fashionista's point of view, read more... (go on!)The film was overall great, but it's just so totally over-the-top disgusting! Yuck! Spooky New England by S E Schlosser
I love the cover of this book of New England ghost and folk tales; there are illustrations in the same style throughout by Paul G. Hoffman. The book is published by The Globe Pequot Press, ISBN: 978-0-7627-2827-5.It is unusual for a book of regional ghost stories in that it is portrayed as fiction rather than a series of experiences. Occasionally I felt I would have liked some of the stories to have been in a more reportage style, hearing genuine people's experiences, but I suspect the stories are ones that have passed into New England lore, and tracking down someone who claimed to have had the actual experiences would be difficult. The stories vary but a number are around the sea such as one where a couple of girls sheltering in a strange house from a storm are woken by a figure of a man i

Today, it becomes clear that they are simply not the person you thought they were -- and it's time for you to admit it. When you accept them for who they are (warts and all), you will immediately feel less annoyed by their antics. Being held to a high standard doesn't work for everyone. Some folks simply can't rise to the challenge.

Weird and Spooky, But More Weird Than Spooky
Last night I had a nightmare about changing the sheets of the family bed.Our family bed is a large waterbed. When the Guppy was born we took the water mattress out and put in a nice firm conventional mattress in order to co-sleep safely. So with this odd configuration, and the fact that the bed is up against the wall, changing the sheets is no easy feat, and something I do not look forward at all to doing every week.In my nightmare, every time I changed the sheets, as soon as I would go to put the comforter back on, I would look down and the sheets would be dirty. So I would have to change them again. Then again. And again. Then the pillowcases began to wrestle with me when I began to change them, as if they were alive and were trying to eat me.It seems like a silly dream now, but at the t

The Celebrity Pilots - Spooky Action Today On WOXY.com
I have really been enjoying the latest album from The Celebrity Pilots, a great band out of the Cleveland area for quite some time now. The new disc, titled Spooky Action is a great follow up to 2005’s Beneath the Pavement, A Beach!, which saw a release on Sunken Treasure Records. The four piece indie poppers brings their sound to the WOXY.com studios later this afternoon, and it is a return trip for the band, who also did a stint in the Lounge in January of 2006. Here is a sample from the new album that I really dig, “Festival Of Flies.” The Celebrity Pilots - Festival Of Flies The band are scheduled to play in the lounge today at 4pm and will be playing in Cincinnati tonight at The Poison Room as well.

Halloween Quickie Candy Reviews: Peeps Spooky Friends, Gummi Googly Eyes, Individual Twizzlers
Well, Halloween is over, the decorations are coming down, and the candy bowl is slowly emptying. While the sweet memories are still fresh, I thought I’d share some of my favorites from this year’s haul. Peeps Spooky Friends: These are pretty much equal in their level of awesomeness with the Googly Eyes. To describe these, I would have to say that they’re much like a compressed regular peep; they’re much more dense, but have the same granular sugar coating. In terms of flavor, though, they far surpass their puffy cousins. To be honest, I’m not exactly sure what the flavor is, but it’s darn good. It’s reminiscent of chocolate and vanilla at the same time. Again, I wish I had more of these! Gummi Googly Eyes:These are absolutely awesome. The top is a typical gummy, with a nice, firm texture and a wonderfully sweet, fruity flavor. The bottom is a slightly different consistency, almost like a gummy with more air mixed in. The combination of the tw

But then again, how many times have you looked at a handbag and tried to imagine what's inside it? Would be a fun game to guess the stuff that lies inside an opaque bag, and I know many of us would have played such games as kids! But suddenly, something that I am about to tell you might not make this idea a fun game anymore! In fact, I felt it was downright spooky to imagine what would happen if we could really see inside a handbag!!Think Geek, the creators of stuff for geeks is out with something intriguing yet cool for some and spooky for the others, an X-Ray Bag that shows the contents inside your bag! Just plane spooky
Is it fate or just a freaky coincidence? James Wysong shares 13 unexplained and unbelievable stories of people in flight. There are stories about duckhunters shooting up in the air to signal the end of duck season and accidentally hitting a commercial plane that was flying overhead (one passenger got hit in the butt. Can you guess who?), and nude pilots flying the plane (honestly, there’s too many naked people in the world). Here’s one: Stopped by the police for speeding on the way to the airport, a woman missed her flight. The airplane crashed and there were no survivors. What makes this story really strange is that the standby passenger who took her place was related to the police officer who gave the woman the ticket. It does have a romantic ending, however, as the police officer and the lucky lady were married two years later. That is one relationship that fate definitely had a hand in. Some luck is just plane spooky. Source: Tripso.com Head on to the Tripso website to

With help from two great sites, The Shadowlands and Zuko - Weird And Spooky Places, I was able to compile a few Albertan haunted houses. From Zuko:1.Banff Springs Hotel - "One very sad and tragic tale involves a young bride and her elegant wedding party in the hotel's grand ballroom. It seems that on the day of the young woman's wedding, she was descending the ornate marble staircase in her beautiful flowing white wedding gown. And, as the story goes, an unexpected breeze (presumably from an open door or window) twisted the gown's flowing train into her path, causing her to stumble. Attempts by the groom to catch-hold of his young wife were in vain, and she fell to her death on the polished marble tiles below. To this day, there are recurring reports of a fleeting vision of a beautiful girl in a long flowing white dress dancing i

      Classics IV - Spooky (1967)
Anyone who doesn't have a clear image of the Classics IV can be forgiven -- they went through so many shifts in personnel and sound (not to mention a name change after they'd started recording), they were little more than a name attached to some excellent (and very good-selling) records of the second half of the 1960s, without a personality or identity to grab onto easily. Although they're considered a late-'60s phenomenon, owing to the chronology of their hits, the group can trace its roots back to R&B harmony (i.e., doo wop) music of the late '50s. Detroit-born, Florida-raised Dennis Yost, who joined on drums and moved into the singer's spot, came from a Jacksonville-area band called the Echoes; he was just old enough to remember '50s R&B when it was current and, among many other groups, loved the Five Satins; and in addition to playing the skins, he sometimes liked to sing when the calls came for a '50s number like "In the Still of the Night." After his own group broke up in

Another reason I don't like cats. They're spooky!
Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours. His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means they have less than four hours to live. "He doesn't make too many mistakes. He seems to understand when patients are about to die," said Dr. David Dosa in an interview. He describes the phenomenon in a poignant essay in Thursday's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. "Many family members take some solace from it. They appreciate the companionship that the cat provides for their dying loved one," said Dosa, a geriatrician and assistant professor of medicine at Brown University. The two-year-old feline was adopted as a kitten and grew up in a third-floor dementia unit at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Spooky Island strikes!
Ok, this isn't a ghost story. It's a weird post cobbled together on the back of a few things. I walk down Minshull New Road of a morning and, for those in the know, that's where the town's new cemetery is being created. So, when it's misty, foggy or blowing a gale, it can be pretty dang spooky walking past it. I'm not someone who usually thinks of churchyards, graves or cemeteries in such a light. However, in the middle of winter, when it's pitch black at 6am, it certainly makes you think. Of course, my youngest doesn't help matters. As I left this morning I spent a few minutes tidying up his things. It was mostly his Scooby Doo characters, strewn across the lounge floor. Everything in Scooby Doo land seems to revolve around spookiness, pesky kids etc. Add to that the map of the British Isles we have on the kitchen door. I tried to explain a bit of geography to the little fella a few weeks ago. He seized upon Ireland as soon as I pointed it out. "Is that like Spooky Island," he

Believe it or not, like Valentine's Day and Christmas, Halloween has become another "lao wai" holiday for China with folks dressing up in Naruto outfits and Angel costumes... This is the new rage of China. I went to a Halloween party last Saturday for Shanghaiist.com, the "other" blog I write for. Yes, Shanghaiist is a site written for an English language speaking audience, however, many locals came to the party with the foreign spirit of Halloween shaking in their bones. Spooky Tooth - It's All About (1968)320kbpsThis full-length debut from British blues-rockers Spooky Tooth has a tone similar to Traffic with its psychedelic take on the influential pop and soul music of the '60s. A few cover tunes including Janis Ian's "Society's Child" and the Nashville Teens' "Tobacco Road" are included, but original songs like the soulful ballad "It Hurts You So" and "Bubbles" (with its Beach Boys sensibility) are the real standouts. The cheery, psychedelic "It's All About a Roundabout" is the catchiest number by far. On this dreamy cut, vocalist/keyboardist Gary Wright demonstrates some sharp melodic and compositional instincts. Although Spooky Tooth eventually became better-known for their straightforward blues-rock, the trippy pop of It's All About counts as a career highlight for the group. Fans of late-'60s British rock are definitely advised to check out this impressive release.Review by Vincent Jeffries(allmusic.com)1. Society's Child (Baby I've Be
