Manchester has spoken and the answer was NO !
Well the results for the referendum on whether Manchester should have a congestion charge came in last night and it was a resounding no from all 10 of the districts/councils, it seems that the majority of Mancunians don’t want a congestion charge and to be honest I don’t blame them, as it is if the [...]

McCain is either leaded or close behind Obama or Clinton in head-to-head polls. Over the past number of weeks, the margins between him and the Dems have fluctuated, but I noticed something important: they only move based on what the Democrats do.When Clinton looks down, she loses ground versus McCain. When Obama says something dumb, he moves down versus McCain. Nothing McCain has done or said has effected the polls one way or the other. That's because he's not done anything of note since becoming the nominee except some small foreign policy gaffes that most Americans didn't hear about and don't care about. Right now, McCain looks like he's tried to portray himself - a maverick, centrist Republican who's not afraid to stand up to his party. The fact is that, as much as he has stood up

When I told my dad about this, I got a 'like mother, like daughter' comment...********Yesterday K kept getting into one thing after another. Finally after about 30 minutes straight of telling her 'no' and every time she'd hear it, she'd throw things on the floor, I was getting quite frustrated. When she grabbed at the medicine again I told her no and smacked her little diapered butt (not hard, enough to get her attention). The look she gave me could have shot daggers through me. She was MAD. She was going to STAY MAD. So she stalked across the room, crossing her arms across her chest, and staring at the TV (We were watching the parade to begin M's intro to Santa...nice and gradual). DH tried to get her attention, "Kennedy. Kennedy!" He said her name probably 5-10 times receiving no response. She kept her arms crossed and her back to us. So, not one to be bossed around, I spoke up "KEnnedy!" In response to my sharp tone she did turn around. She gave me a stern glare, po

Well folks!MalaysiaKini had just released a spanking brand new video today. The video is all about BERSIH’s mass rally but this time their focus is different. It is no longer about the scenes of the rally or the aggression made by the authorities against the rally participants. This time around, MalaysiaKini gave us the opportunity to hear for our own selves the voices of the common people who had participated in last Saturday’s huge mass rally. I have taken a look at it and particularly like that one scene where we have one rally participant said that our election process ‘dilacurkan’ by the powers that be. Boy, he really nailed it right on the dot there! :-) Yeah, this is one fine example where our own native Bahasa sometimes can put the message across the board better than any other languages.Good work, MalaysiaKini. We should have more of this to let other Malaysians know that the past event was not political in nature. We need to combat the government’s media machinery; t

I was reading my email today and I found that buyers, you have spoken. So I said to myself, "Let's put on our listening ears and see what they said." The National Association of Realtors has released the "2007 Profile of Buyers' Home Feature Preferences," and our buyers have indicated what their top preferences are when looking for a home. Buyers indicated that #1 preference they have is extra garage spaces. According to the study says that 57% of buyers want an oversized garage and 56% of buyers reported that they would have paid more for one.The report from NAR also indicated some other home features buyers are placing a higher priority on. Among these features are energy efficiency, cable/satellite ready, hardwood floors, granite countertops, a walk-in closet in the master bedroom, and air conditioning.I hope our builders and remodelers are listening too. To be efficient and effective I need to always be in the mode of listening and delivering, and that is what I intend to do.

Now Hear This: The Editors Have Spoken Again
Will someone please, please, please flush the toilet Paper???According to the emotion and angst filled, non logic using editorial board members at The NY Times:"Prolonging the war for another two years will not bring victory. It will mean more lives lost, more damage to America’s international standing and fewer resources to fight the real fight against terrorists."This group whines like Mike Gravel at a Democrat Debate, why are they so invested in the never changing need to get out? Who are these people? Who are the members?Because we are still in Iraq (big surprise!) it is nothing but an utter failure. Because we are in Iraq, "Al Qaeda’s top leadership (has) regrouped and (is) resurgent in its old strongholds along the Pakistani-Afghan frontier." Is the logic(?) that we could then invade Pakistan or send more military to Afghanistan? What kind of a "quagmire" would be created by sending more soldiers to Afghanistan; do we really want to get involved in something like that?

Spoken Word...But Give It a Chance!!!
I know what you're thinking.  Woo hoo...spoken word [read with a not so small amount of sarcasm].  BUT, give this one a chance!  Come one.  What do you have to loose? This is Andrea Gibson performing "Blue Blanket" and it's some pretty powerful stuff. Thanks inchoate, for posting this on your blog and getting me interested in spoken word that doesn't suck.

Once again the Diocese of Manchester has spoken....
His Excellency, The Most Rev. John McCormack, has indicated that the faithful should refrain from participating in the spiritual exercises and activities of the Saint Benedict Center in Richmond, New Hampshire.Lumen Gentium, No. 25:"Among the more important duties of bishops that of preaching the Gospel has pride of place. For the bishops are heralds of the faith, who draw new disciples to Christ; they are authentic teachers, that is, teachers endowed with the authority of Christ, who preach the faith to the people assigned to them, the faith which is destined to inform their thinking and direct their conduct; and under the light of the Holy Spirit they make that faith shine forth, drawing from the storehouse of revelation new things and old (cf. Mt. 13:52); they make it bear fruit and with watchfulness they ward off whatever errors threaten their flock (cf. 2 Tim. 4-14). Bishops who teach in communion with the Roman Pontiff are to be revered by all as witnesses of divine and Catholic

'Idol' Voters Have Spoken: No Mandate for Melinda
News Source : Washington PostNo, not Melinda. No, no, no, no, no.Melinda Doolittle, the most polished singer in the history of "American Idol" -- she effortlessly channeled Carmen McRae, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, just name your diva and stand back -- was voted off last night. That leaves Jordin Sparks, a big-voiced but inexperienced teenager from Arizona, and Blake Edwards, a hyperkinetic fashion victim who interrupts his performances with beat-box vocalese, to compete next week in the finals.Melinda's dismissal stunned even Jordin and Blake -- she was that much better. Melinda had made her living as a backup singer, which meant she had chops. Her command of breath, tone, her phrasing were those of a professional singer. Jordin and Blake, let's face it, probably couldn't spell vibrato, let alone modulate it.But her departure wasn't entirely unexpected. For all her talent and accomplishment, Melinda had little of the sparkle and fizz that people expect from a po

      The Nation has Spoken
ESPN recently conducted a poll on their site, and as we all know, ESPN Polls are absolutely scientific. The purpose of the poll? To see what the consensus was on which one of the #1 seeds wouldn’t make it to the Final Four. Seeing as how all four #1 seeds have never made it to the Final Four in the history of the tournament, the question seems valid. That having been said, it’s interesting the colors they chose to represent the different teams. I suppose due to the fact that the color would represent the different teams losing, they purposely chose colors that were not of the school colors, but of the schools that could possibly knock them off. Perhaps my theory is completely skewed seeing as how I am only talking about Tennessee here, but anyway. I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore, so just look at the map. Well, I thought it was funny anyway. If you look closely, there’s a small representation off to the right of Florida that shows that th

      The LA Times Has Spoken
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-calvary28feb28,0,4379407.story?coll=la-home-headlines Chad, feel free to nuke this post. I don’t know how it will received and it you feel its too stinky, pull it. I, for one, don’t think it was as bad as it could have been. It seems to me it was a lot more, shall we say, honest that the CT article. Setting aside their liberal view of our fundamentalist, literalist position, they didn’t seem to roast CC or anyone as bad as they might have. It discussed Chuck’s mistakes and his regrets for those mistakes. While it leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth about Chuck and the current status of the suit (supposedly using then abandoning Lori Pollitt for his own legal schemes), it doesn’t single anyone out as the ultimate baddie. As a side note, I found their summary of the history/origins/cornerstones of CC particularly amusing. Those disillusioned hippies.

      The People Have Spoken
Democrats will retake control of the House of Representatives and possibly the Senate too as voters across the United States sent a message to lawmakers in every corner of the nation. In what will rightly be seen as a referendum on the Bush Administration and the culture of corruption that permeates the Republican party, this was an election when the people put national interest ahead of their own local concerns. With 62% of voters in exit polls saying that this election was about national issues, one has to assume that the people have finally chosen to wake up and smell the burning of our constitution and our tradition of freedom. With 42% saying that political corruption was a prime factor in their votes Tuesday, one has to assume that the people are fed up with the horseshit that passes for political leadership. 57% said that the war in Iraq was a key concern, while only 40% cited terrorism. These numbers clearly show that Americans no longer trust George Bush or the Republican

      The American People Have Spoken
Congress is now controlled by the democratic party and no matter what party you are affiliated with the duty of all Americans right now is to keep on our government's heels. We have given them all a wake-up call and demonstrated what we are capable of. We changed the balance of power that was unchanged for 12 long years. All week we've heard how this congress will rule in a bi-partisan fashion and that democrats and republicans are going to work together to solve the problems in Iraq, improve our economy and employment, and fight illegal immigration...Just to name a few.In my opinion, congress should have been following this philosophy all along. Words are easy to say. Acing upon words and getting the job done is much harder and it is our responsibility as American Citizens to keep an eye on our government and never let them forget who made them. We must not sit back for another decade and watch our nation fall from grace even more. We must keep our voices as loud as them, if not lou

What a surprise! Relaunched Justice League takes colossal sales plunge (update: may have spoken too soon)
See below. I hadn't looked at December.IIRC, the fourth issue of Justice League of America's latest volume sold almost 130,000 copies? Well I just took a look at the sales chart ICV2 published a week ago, and what an amazing feat has come about: this volume being written by Brad Meltzer has lost a considerable amount of its audience, dropping to rank 66 on the chart with its 5th issue, just below Birds of Prey #102, and sold only 28,992 copies. In other words, the new JLofA volume may have lost more than 100,000 units in sales figures this past month! And IMHO, it is richly deserved, if for no more reason than the fact that the writer is one whose works I decidedly will not be spending my money on, and his books will not find their way into my house anytime soon. Even if I were still buying more pamphlet issues than I actually do today - trade paperbacks make up the bulk of my purchases - I still wouldn't dare to waste time and money on the works of an overhyped writer who crossed the
