Spike Lee the director of the fantastic “Malcolm X†has received an annual George Polk Award for journalism for the work that he did on his documentary about the life after Hurricane Katrina had hit New Orleans.
The Television documentary “When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts,” which also saw producer Sam Pollard win an award wanted to show people the lack of government support that New Orleans received. A lot of work went into this documentary which saw Spike visiting New Orleans eight times and interviewed at least 100 people to get their account of these events.
This is a top prize and one that both Spike Lee and Sam Pollard should be proud of.
