A few news items that helped me to smile even amidst the gloominess caused by the stock market crash:With the stocks crashing all over the world, each person/organization had their own reaction... Our Finance Minister P Chidambaram tried to assure the market of the Indian growth story... US Fed cut its interest rate... Financial experts advised the investors not to panic... But the cops from Ahmedabad had the most interesting reaction... Their reaction to stock market crash: Secure Ahmedabad's largest lake... Wanted to know why, read 'Market Crash: Cops secure Ahmedabad's largest lake'Someone living in India is used to hear frequent press statements from opposition party leaders demanding the resignation of the ruling party on matters of little public interest. Right, that’s your lot. I’m hungover, and going back to bed!
We’re in December, and at the risk of alienating all my readers, here’s some really controversial festive links!
Racist Sexism! Horribly right wing paper The Daily Mail posts adverts from yesteryear. How how we laugh.

Awesome game of the week is Super Smash Flash, a flash game conversion of Super Smash Brothers with extra characters and addictiveness. Does anybody have any idea how to unlock extra characters though?
Awesome cartoon of the week is This one from Penny Arcade. It’s funny because it’s true - My “Top Friends” usually goes “Brothers > Guy > Sibley/Jay > Girlfriend > Home Mates/Uni Mates > Ex Girlfriends > Randoms”, but it varies as much as the New York Stock Exchange. I also feel guilt knocking people off my top friends. I can’t be the only one, can’t I?
Excuse of the week comes from England’s fantastically shoddy elimination from the Euros earlier this week. The latest blame is the Anthem Singer, who didn’t sing the right words to the Croatian National Anthem.

Welcome to this week’s batch of posts for Sunday Speedlinking. There are some gooduns in here, I’m pleased with this batch. I hope you are too.
First off this week is a story on the BBC that got me interested, if only for the title. Researchers have worked out how an organism has survived Eighty Million Years Without Sex. Hell, they should’ve asked me.
Next up is a rather fun game I found from Re:Retro: Anti-Pacman. Basically, it’s Pacman but you play the ghosts. It’s rather fun, and similar to my Intruder Alert Game I made a while back. It’s rather fun, and a lot better than my game.
Have a look at some of this Geeky Sewing. I love the Megaman one! What is your favourite?

From Tech Digest comes this rather cool concept. What if Toasters were Transparent?
From WiiWii comes Street Fighter II for the Commodore 64. I used to have this for my C64, and it was as terrible as it looked. Still paid over £10 for it in the day, it took ages to load and two player mode was terrible.

Hello everybody! All because I am away doesn’t mean I can’t write a couple of speedlinking posts! I have been obsessively collecting links before my travels, so these links may be a few weeks old, but they are still fab. Here you go!
From Han’s Speedlinking post is Homepage Startup, a nifty little Ajaxy thing that has your best bookmarks in front of you. Classy!
From Neatorama comes this ace Emergency Money Box. I do rather like this, and would use it. It’s much more satisfying to smash than a poreclain pig I can imagine.
I’m not sure whre I found this, but it’s cool. An Illustrated Coffee Guide gives you a guide on how to make all sorts of coffees. In this article, Alan explains that his fear and anxiety drives him to perform better as an actor. Consider that for a moment. The fear and anxiety doesn’t hinder his performance. The first Sunday Speedlinking for September! Christ, the year’s gone fast, hasn’t it? Also, it’s the first one I’ve done without a raging hangover. I went out last night and didn’t get drunk! The company was fantastic, so I didn’t need to make it interesting. Anyway, here’s your links.
First, from Punclox is this great article on Why Nightclubs Suck. After another dull night in Broadway which saw a drink poured over me after some cock pushed me into a couple smoozing on the dance floor, I’m inclined to agree. Alas, the only reason I (and I imagine a lot of people) go to nightclubs is in the vain hope that I meet the future Mrs. Wynne, even though statistically I never pull. But I digress - that article rules.
Next up from Merrick is this hilarious video. Will you go after yoga?

I saw this story on the BBC to make Real Ales More Friendlier For Girls. It’s ironic to consider that the last time they tried making bitter’s more female friendly, they created Lager (which is now the most popular alcoholic drink amongst men). As you could probably tell, I’m a bitter and real ale drinker. I quite like being in the minority. I look down on the Fosters and Carling drinkers of this world. A couple of short pieces of AdSense news today.
Over at the official AdSense blog they’ve announced that there’s a new feature just been added to AdSense that will help them serve up more relevant ads for password protected areas of your blog. For example if you have a members only area you can now tell the AdSense crawler/bot how to access these areas so that it can assess what content is on them.
How do you access this new feature?
“just check out Site Authentication in your account and follow the instructions on the page. Please note that you will only have access to this feature if you’ve updated your AdSense login to a Google Account. We appreciate your patience as we roll out this feature to additional publishers.”
In other AdSense news - Self Made Minds reports that they’ve been approached by AdSense to be a part of a test for ‘AdSense for Mobile’ to allow publishes to monetize their sites for mobile devices.
Remember, these are more for my benefit than yours.
First up from Heidi Go Seek is “Simpsonize Me”, a cool little flash applet that turns a digital photo of yourself into a Simpsons Character. Or should that be it takes a digital photo of yourself, does a few little changes, and you pick up the pieces. neverthertheless, as you can imagine, it’s hugely popular, but here’s a quick Rhys that I have managed to do.First the original.
And now the Simpsonized.
Pretty good eh? Why not post one on your blog? If you do, please let me know, I’d love to see them!
From Pimpmypagerank comes “Simple English Wikipedia”. At first I thought “oh great, a wikipedia for children, retards and chavs”. But you can add me to that list. Not because I’m stupid, but because it’s funny. For example, I was expecting a “When a Daddy and a Mummy love each other very much” for this article (possibly NSFW), but fuck it (no pun inten

For this week my favorite articles are:
John Place shares his technique to memorize anything. It’s easy to implement, low risk to try, and most importantly it’s practical for memorizing information-heavy material.
Melody Brooke answers the age old relationship question ‘Why Won’t You Listen To Me?’. Just in time for our ‘How Can I Get Through To You‘ post. The key is compassion.
Brian Kim asks us to get in the habit of changing our approach. Before you quit, it is important to remember that there’s always another way to solve the problem. You can read more about this approach in Brian’s book, The Hidden Secrets in Think and Grow Rich.

Happy Sunday everybody! Here’s today’s Speedlinks.
Kyle posted a while ago about Deja Vu, an online browser emulator, specifically for the older browsers. It’s quite cool to see how browsers that cannot handle CSS appear. Kyle’s post inspired me to check out what my blog looked like on the first computer I ever went online with, the Atari ST. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go on the internet directly with the emulator, but I took an offline snapshot of the main page of this blog. The results were interesting. First there was garbledom as it imports the CSS into the page, and the other problem was that the images didn’t display images didn’t display. Other than that though it displayed the text almost as it should (a few special characters were missing), so if you’re viewing this site on an Atari ST. Welcome! For those who are not, but want to find out more on this fabulous machine, follow this domain name hack http://atari.st/

Ivan Ivoras wrote an article that presents new features that will be included in FreeBSD 7. If you want to give it a try before it’s released you can download a snapshot cd image or you can try his FreeBSD 7 live CD snapshot
It seems like the next version of Mac OSX is going to get ZFS, well it shouldn’t be hard now that it was ported works on FreeBSD 7 snapshots and MacOSX has FreeBSD at it’s roots.
Leopard is also going to get Dtrace from Sun but they’ll call it Xray
Want to try OpenSolaris but you like Ubuntu too much? Get Nexenta, an operating system that uses OpenSolaris kernel and Debian/Ubuntu. It looks and feels just like Ubuntu, has more then 12000 packages in the APT repository and you can take advantage of some features that don’t exist in Linux ( yet ? ) like ZFS
It seems Solaris features (mostly ZFS ) make a lot of buzz these days. I wonder when ( if ever ) will Linux include ZFS in the kernel. I know there is a ZFS implementaion for L
I was reading ProBlogger today, I very big blog that makes A LOT of money. He suggests that giving some link love to the community is a good thing and also can give value to own blog. So I’ve made a collection of posts that I’ve read through various blogs that I think are informative:
Mr Gary Lee - Last week Gary announced he is giving a away a new apple iPhone which are currently like hot cakes over in the USA. In order to apply for entry you need to write a short blurb on your blog about his blog and his new site. I haven’t personally joined this competition because the iPhone wont work on any of the UK networks so it would be a waste of time me getting it!
Smart Wealthy Rich - Jon is a guy who doesn’t like taking money for reviewing other blogs or companies because he just isn’t into that. I think this guy is 1 in a million bloggers that would turn down cash on the morale he doesn’t like posting reviews on his blog!
Jamie Harrop - Jamie talks abou
As a little new feature for this blog, I am going to do a “Sunday Speedlinking”. Basically, these blog posts and stories have interested me in the last week, and - whilst they don’t deserve a full entry - they do deserve a little mention. Here we go.
First of was a story on the BBC, about Edinburgh Council replacing the SN07 number plate because some people could find it offensive. SN07 spells “Snot”, the least offensive offensive word probably ever. Can you think of any other non offensive swear words that could be banned by the heavy handed DVLA? I suggest looking at this list for the British Car Number Plate Identifiers and watching Monty Python and The Holy Grail for inspiration for non offensive swear words. Especially The French Taunting Bit.
On the list of “Pointless Degrees”, a Degree in Northerness, where you can learn about. I’ve already suggested it to Han, who thinks that if she goes north of Watford she’d get ra
Right before I went on vacation, I read some articles that caught my attention. Since it has previously been a Sunday morning tradition to post links from OTHER blogs on this site, I will share what I read.

Aaron Potts launches Personal Development Partners. A website dedicated to networking with like minded people. It basically connects you with someone interested in a certain field of personal development, and a certain location. I’m leaving for Israel in 1 hour as I write this, so I haven’t had time to thoroughly inspect the site. When you make your profile add me as a friend, my username is AlexShalman.

For most of today I've been working on a WordPress plugin. Because I haven't had much time to work on fresh posts I thought I'd share a few links to things that caught my eye over the last few days. Check out the links below and enjoy,
What Makes Me Unsubscribe: Problogger had a great post recently conerning what exactly makes users unsubscribe from blogs. Elise offers up her own reflections on the subject with some great insights. Of particular note, something I myself am frequently guilty of - blogging about blogging. I'm certainly guilty of it ... never blog about your blog and if you're making an update post keep it to one a week.
To Aff or Not to Aff: John Chow asks whether it makes sense to label your affiliate links. I recently wrote about Affiliate Marketing on Smaller blogs and must say I think it makes sense. My personal view is this - if you're reviewing something and include an affiliate link then disclosure really isn't that important. If you're

It forces you to aim for a clear goal and to achieve it.
