In a stunning victory, Democrat Don Cazayoux defeated Republican Woody Jenkins to replace retired Republican Congressman Richard Baker. Cazayoux won the district 49% to 46%, this despite Republican ads, which tried to tie Cazayoux with Nancy Pelosi, Obama and Rev. Wright. If anything, this Republican defeat is a sure sign of things to come this November. The 6th Congressional district has remained Republican since 1975 with about a 7% lean Republican.
Oberweis ice cream. Oberweis milk. You may have heard of it. You may buy it. You may really like it. The company is owned by Jim Oberweis. I can't buy Oberweis ice cream anymore. And this is why:
Oberweis is also a very conservative wannabe politician in Illinois. And he is running in a special election this weekend against Bill Foster.
This is Oberweis's fourth attempt at elected office, having run in two U.S. Senate races in Illinois and also running for Governor in 2006. Now, that in itself does not make him a good or bad person. It just means that he isn't as well liked as he thinks he is.
But what really bothers me about this man is that he has run on blatantly racist fear mongering tactics. Here is one of them:Oberweis's 2004 campaign was notable for a television commer
A Republican has won the governorship in the state of Louisiana. U.S. Rep. Bobby Jindal won the election to replace the incompetent Gov. Kathleen Blanco who was not running for re-election. While the main stream media tried to pin the lack of preparedness to help after hurricane Katrina, it was Kathleen Blanco who showed the real lack of leadership and preparedness. Governor-elect Jindal’s story seems to be an inspiring one.
U.S. Rep. Bobby Jindal became the nation’s youngest governor and the first nonwhite to hold post in Louisiana since Reconstruction when he carried more than half the vote to defeat 11 opponents.
Jindal, the Republican 36-year-old son of Indian immigrants, had 53 percent with 625,036 votes with about 92 percent of the vote tallied. It was more than enough to win Saturday’s election outright and avoid a Nov. 17 runoff.

Results here.Niki Tsongas defeats John Ogonowski 51%-45%, a margin of about 6500 votes, with 4% going to Independent candidates. This district is D+10, so this is not a great showing for Tsongas and this is Massachusetts. Tsongas is the wife of former Massachusetts Congressman and Senator Paul Tsongas. Ogonowski is the brother of the pilot of American Airlines Flight 11 on September 11, 2001.
Tuesday, July 17th, 2007 is the last day for voting in the Special Election Runoff for Georgia District 10, House of Representatives. Canidates are Paul Broun, Republican and Senator Jim Whitehead, Republican.
When results of yesterday’s special election to fill the vacant District 9 seat in the state House of Representatives were announced last night, former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley let out a whoop, grabbed the hand of Republican Party candidate David Boutin and held it up in victory.
Boutin coasted to victory last night in the Republican dominated town of Hooksett. In a race that drew the interest of party leaders on both sides, Boutin beat Democratic candidate David Paquette, 670 to 388.
A special election was held in Hooksett to fill a vacant house seat, and a Republican ran away with the victory. While this won’t change anything here in New Hampshire, could be be an early sign of voter discontent in New Hampshire? Jeb Bradley, who lost to Carol Shea-Porter in last year’s US Rep. race thinks so.
Bradley wouldn’t say whether he thought the vote was a referendum on the majority party until after last night’s votes were tallied, but once the results were clear, so
Not that it's news.Democrat Micah Kellner defeated Republican Gregory Camp in a special election to replace Assemblyman Alexander Pete Grannis in the 65th Assembly District which includes the Upper East Side of Manhattan east of 3 Avenue between 60th and 90th Streets, and Roosevelt Island. The big news in the race was The New York Times endorsement of the Republican candidate, which shocked many.Still, the staunchly Democratic district send a Democrat to the Assembly 64%-36%. Now, for the first time since January, the entire Assembly is filled without any vacanies and Democrats hold a 108-42 majority.

Since I'm out of town, I wasn't following yesterday's special elections for the two NYC Council seats...I just remembered about them.
