"This -- IS -- SPARTA" and Other Similar Quotes
A few months ago, we all kept hearing the same type of one-liner again and again in movie trailers:"This, Is, Sparta!""I, Am, Beowulf!""This, Is Our, City!"And then, even in a movie's title: "I Am Legend"I can almost hear someone shouting it... "I, Am, LEGEND!"I'll bet most people didn't know or didn't care. You probably noticed, saw the pattern. I thought it was mildly amusing. A bit annoying

      Sparta Teapot Museum
Organizers of the Sparta Teapot Museum, which received $900,000 in taxpayer-funded grants and a bushel of unwanted publicity, are planning to build a very different museum than first envisioned. It's expected to be a fraction of the original size and won't focus exclusively on a donated teapot collection. The wealthy principal donor plans to take many, though not all, of his teapots elsewhere and has all but abandoned the idea of building a 10,000-square-foot foundation headquarters in the small N.C. mountain town of Sparta.Sonny Kamm, the prominent Los Angeles securities lawyer who planned to donate his 10,000 teapots, said he's exploring other options.Full story

Thebes-City of Legends, The Defeater of Sparta-Photos
The ancient name for the city the Greeks called Thebai was Waset, the Scepter nome, and it was the main city of the fourth Upper Egyptian nome. It was close to Nubia and the eastern desert, with their valuable mineral resources and trade routes. The site of Thebes includes areas on both the eastern bank of the Nile, where the temples of Karnak and Luxor stand, and the western bank, where are the large private and royal cemeteries and funerary complexes.Waset was little more than a provincial town in the Old Kingdom. Though two brick-built mastaba tombs dating from the 3rd or 4th dynasty have been found in the Theban area, and a small group of tombs have been found dating from the 5th and 6th Dynasties in the area of the necropolis known as el-Khokha, it is not clear if there was an actual Old Kingdom settlement here. The royal residence and tombs, as well as most of the tombs of the court and government nobles at this time, were primarily built at Saqqara near Memphis, closer to the De

A Game That Resembled A Productive Training Session (Sparta Prague) (h) Reaction
The clock showed 6 minutes 54 seconds when Tomas Rosicky put the 3rd round qualifying tie beyond doubt.  After this goal the game was put way beyond any doubt.  Any nerves were settled and the Arsenal faithful were in for an easy night.  It was a pity the players felt this way aswell.  Sparta put up little or no fight at all and it almost became a training game for the lads in red.  Arsenal played it around and at times became lethargic and allowed Sparta a rare venture forward.  Otherwise it was a simple exercise of keep ball with the odd flourish into the opposition box.  Unfortunately the players never moved out of first gear and a second goal didn’t really look on the cards. Half time arrived with every Gooner in the Emirates Stadium sitting pretty with their overpriced drinks (which have got smaller and gone up in price) and hot dogs (aids dogs as my mate calls them).  The second half started better with the home team pressurising Sparta into errors.   However this didn

Arsenal 3 - Sparta Prague 0, Dein sells shares
Arsenal cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Sparta Prague to ensure a berth in the group stage of this years Champions League. An early goal from Rosicky and late goals from Fabregas and Eduardo meant the Gunners came out as comfortable 5-0 winners over two legs.I couldn't watch the match and I feel it's better not to write opinions by just reading reports and watching highlights. So here's a good report. Have it!Anyway, it's pretty nice to see our midfielders score more goals. If they can keep this scoring touch, we'd be far better as there would be less pressure on forwards. Eduardo played in the wings for some part of the game and from opinions, I've understood that he looked pretty lively there. In my opinion, he may play there in the left in the absence of Rosicky and that'll also help him to settle faster as playing on wings means seeing more of the ball. But Arsene believes that he's a box player. So it's pretty sure that we'll see him more upfront rather than on the

      Sparta, Arsene And More
Sparta arrive at The Emirates this evening, the second leg of a tie that we ought to progress. In fact, if we do not I would not care to imagine some of the comments that will follow. Not for anything other than I am but a shy and sensitive creature, as I am sure you had already guessed. A two goal lead from the away leg is of course, a comfortable position in which to find yourselves. Not quite through but only a major shambles eliminates you. There is no logical reason why Arsenal should not move into the Group Phase because it is Sparta who have to make all of the running. They might choose to reproduce the ‘hard man’ tactics of the First Leg but given that they need to score, this might prove to be as fruitless as it was a fortnight ago. It would suit Arsenal tonight if Sparta came and attacked, leaving spaces to be exploited. More likely though is that they try to reverse the roles, hoping that it is the hosts who attack in search of killing off the tie early on. If th

Well, will Arsenal beat Sparta Prague ? Yes, I think they will win just like the first leg (2-0). By a quick look to the Arsenal v Sparta Prague matches history, I didn't find any won by the second. Arsenal battle to victory over Sparta as Rosicky’s bet heats up
Sparta Prague 0-2 Arsenal Match Report Arsenal took a massive step towards qualification for the final stages of the Champions League with a smash-and-grab 2-0 away victory over Czech side Sparta Prague. After being bossed around in the first 45 minutes Arsenal took the lead through a cool finish from Cesc Fabregas after lovely work from Gael Clichy and got a crucial second goal late on through Alexander Hleb’s second goal in as many matches. Sparta Prague 0 - Arsenal 2. Job almost done.
Arsenal have won their away leg of the Champions League qualifier against Czech side Sparta Prague. The goals came in the second half from Cesc Fabregas in the 72nd minute and from Alex Hleb in the 90th Minute after a goalless first half. Gael Clichy setup the first goal while Sagna assisted in the second. The full match report is here. As usual ten sports decided against showing the match. And a shitty net connection meant i was left to watch the live score updates.Wenger started with the same starting XI that played against Fulham, as expected. We had Eduardo, Adebayor, Diaby, Denilson and Gilberto out of this tie due to injuries. This win away from home is one of the important ones this season. It's only half time considering the two legs, but we can be pretty sure of a spot in the group stage.Apart from that we had 'top four spuds' losing again, this time to everton only to find themselves at the bottom. First two games really shows how much Jol "wasted" on that team. And Mancs

      Sparta Preview And Leadership Issues
Champions League football tonight; at least Setanta had the decency to leave ours at a 7.45 kick-off. A tricky little tie but one that if approached with the same professionalism as Zagreb last season, will see Arsenal progress by a two goal aggregate advantage. As far the team goes tonight, I would expect the eleven who started on Sunday to kick-off tonight. If Arsene is going to tinker, he might opt for a more defensive shape to the left hand side, resting Rosicky and bringing in Traore. However, given the situation of the game, that may be something if he decided to protect a two-goal lead but not from the start. Tactically, the performance in Amsterdam is likely to be the template, defensively more solid and looking to retain possession, hitting Sparta on the break in the first half rather than taking the game to them as was the case at home to Fulham. For that to work, for the umpteenth time in the last season, it is going to be important that the sloppiness in defence is eradicat

Arsenal face Sparta in Champions league qualifier
The draw for the third qualifying round of the Champions League was today. And we are going to face the Czech side Sparta Prague. The rest of the fixtures can be found here. It's a tricky tie and we need to be careful. They have improved a lot since we last met them. They even did the double last season. But with the players we have, we should defeat them easily. But with Arsenal, u never know. Also in other news, Eduardo and Bendtner scored in 2-1 win over Lazio. We started with a pretty weak side and that was clearly seen in the performance. Eduardo impressed again and more importantly opened his goal tally for Arsenal. This was just few hours after he was granted his work permit. The match showed that many of our players are still lacking the fitness levels. Fabregas, Rosicky and Walcott looked heavy legged and they definitely need to play in the coming matches if they're to get ready for the league in time.Meanwhile spare a thought for Gilberto who'll be joining us late and with n

      Sparta Teapot Museum
Organizers of the Sparta Teapot Museum say they are scaling back the project that would house a Los Angeles millionaire’s unusual teapot collection. The museum was intended to draw tourism - and money - to this small town near the Blue Ridge Parkway, but organizers say now that the region cannot support what was initially proposed."Of course, our first plan was a wonderful dream. It was an absolute dream museum. The problem was we just couldn’t afford our dream," said Sandy Carter Herndon, a member of the museum’s board of directors. The board decided earlier this month to reduce the size of the building by more than half, cutting the cost from $14 million to an estimated $6 million. The move could jeopardize an arrangement to permanently display Sonny Kamm’s more than 7,000 eclectic teapots - a collection considered to be the largest of its kind in the world."There would be less teapots displayed, and it is unclear at this time what level of involvement we will have from Mr. Kamm

      Spartacus..300 Spartans..and Sparta
After Watching Spartacus (2004) on History channel, I was excited. A deep sense of adrenalin rush through my veins.Sunday we enjoyed 300 in my Home theatre. Wow what a movie. Specially the effects and sound (oh.. Dolby experience is great in home I guess)Here's a brief history from Wikipedia about Sparta:Sparta (Doric: Σπάρτα Spártā, Attic: Σπάρτη Spártē) is a city in southern Greece. In antiquity it was a Dorian Greek military state, originally centered in Laconia. As a city-state devoted to military training, Sparta possessed the most formidable army in the Greek world, and after achieving notable victories over the Athenian and Persian Empires, regarded itself as the natural protector of Greece. Laconia or Lacedaemon (Λακεδαίμων) was the name of the wider city-state centered at the city of Sparta, though the name "Sparta" is now used for both. The Kings of Sparta were believed to be the direct descendants of Heracles. The city of Sparta lies at the southern

      300 (Sparta vs Persia)
Yesterday, I watched 300 at 21Cineplex.There are 3 things that I want to tell you :1. It's extremely violent2. The graphic is unlike anything you've seen before (great stuff dude!)3. The story is so unrealistic, but it's ok to watchThis moview is all about a tale of a brave Leonidas I, King of Sparta, son of King Anaxandridas II, descendant of Heracles, who led 300 Spartan warriors against the seemingly unending forces of Emperor Xerxes of Persia at The Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC.I read in IMDB.COM that 300 is an adaptation of the graphic novel written and drawn by Frank Miller, with colors by Lynn Varley.About the graphic stuffs, this film is filled with CGI, the color looks so cartoonized and I personally doesn't like the color palettes, cause it hides the reality of this movie. The bloods just doesn't look real and the violence almost appears fake at times. Other films like Braveheart, Schindler's List, and Saving Private Ryan can show you a real blood. But, I really enjoy

I just got back from cinema where I watched for the second time the 300 movie and I have to say I'm so excited that I'd like to present today some t-shirts relevant to the Hot Gates and the 300 Spartans! The first person to ask of course was fellow Greek Nassos who also loved the movie (personally I can't think of any Greek that didn't like it...) and he show me his design that he just completed. Honestly, Nassos never ceases to surprise me with his quality and speed. No matter how much I wanted to find some other t-shirt to present here, the comparison to Nassos' was inevitable and so, I decided to give you his Sparta t-shirt!SPARTA Dark T-Shirt $25.29

Historical Controversy on the movie "300": Sparta? No. This is madness
Check out this at TPM to see exactly what I mean about the left seeing hidden messages everywhere. I had to chuckle while reading it as even the author did mention how libs see so many hidden messages. She seemed at the same time to temper her comments to not sound like a moonbat but nevertheless did mention every possible reference to racism, homophobia, clash of cultures blah blah blah as all the other libs that panned the movie. To me it sounds like she is embarassed about her moonbattiness but nevertheless can't keep it from taking wing. All in all it's an interesting piece as it sheds light on the inner mental workings of the species leftus moonbattus. It is inevitable that when a movie about a historical event is produced a large number of people will complain about the artistic license taken by the screenwriter and director. And if the makers of "300" were trying to pass their movie off as historically accurate they would rate such criticism. But they didn't. T

Especially historical ones. Here is a taste… I was plannng on posting the youtube videoclip as a quickie stand alone posting. The following linked content adds more punch. Now I would never of put the two films “Dawn of the Dead” and “300 Spartans” together. But in fact director Zack Snyder was involved in the making of both.
