An invasion of thousands of British students at a small Spanish resort for a sports tournament has left locals reeling from their drunken antics.Students from 37 universities including the London School of Economics, Manchester University and King's College London, descended on the town of Calella to compete in games including netball, hockey and lacrosse. But so many spent their days drinking instead of competing that locals said the tournament was more about being drunk than sport. They said beaches were left littered, revellers kept them awake until the early hours, road signs were vandalised and hotel furniture wrecked. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ editorial note: Somehow...this story sounds vaguely familiar to me? hmmmm???
We went back to the old Valencia in the afternoon, this time with the rest of the group for a walking tour with some teachers. We used the Valencia Metro again which is why the multiple trip tickets come in handy and much cheaper. The cost of a single trip in Zone A or the inner city is 1,20€. But you can purchase a ten trip ticket for 6,10€.Our walk started at the Torres de Serrano, once the main gateof the city and one of two remaining gates from old Valencia. When the city expanded in the 19th Century, they got rid of the old city walls and most of the gates. We made our way through the same attractions and ended up at the Plaza de Toros where bullfights are held. Again, we were lucky because of the upcoming fiesta, there are bullfights scheduled. So we’ll be buying tickets to tha

Apart from running my own websites, I do have a select number of clients that I provide SEO (search engine optimisation) services to here in Spain.I never promote that side of my business as I don't want to take on any new customers at the moment. But over the past two weeks I've been approached directly by over ten different companies requesting my search engine optimisation services. If you're reading this and wondering what search engine optimisation is then you can read more about it on wikipedia.I've had to turn them all down! How crazy is that?? Turning down business! But to be honest I just don't have the time and I don't want any of my existing customers to suffer because I've taken on too much work. It's difficult enough just managing what I've got already. However, I do have a

I was round a friend's house today and he's got a really good glass encolsure around his terrace in Duquesa. I have seen these becoming more and more popular as it allows the terrace to be used all year round. In our area it's particularly good for keeping the terrace clean! It's so dusty around here that especially in the summer you end up cleaning your terrace nearly every day just to get rid of the dust.I saw this website about glass curtains Spain whish shows some examples of glass curtains. Have you seen these glass curtains yourself? What do you think of them?I like the fact that they don't change the look of the terrace much but I wonder if as part of a community you could fit these without it needing to be approved by the community?? Will take a look into that but I assume each
Look at Jancis go! You go girl! She calls wine critics "parasitical." She also calls on them to show more humility. Some guy named David Woodward (wine journalist) offended Peter Sisseck (Pingus) for saying some winemakers make wines for some critics palates. All this went down at some pointless wine conference in Spain for important wine people to create news for the Decanter RSS feed so useless bloggers like me can blog about it. Seems like this conference is like wine RAW. Love it. There should be more articles soon on this in the coming days but here is some Decanter fluff to tide you over.
I am afraid of the Queen of Spain. I read her blog. I follow her on Twitter. I hunt her down as Erin Kotecki Vest on Huffington Post. I watch her many video blogging experiments. Hell, I even guest blogged at her place. I am down with the Queen of Spain. And yet she makes me a little nervous. She has a bit of a bold streak. And by bold, I mean she has a...
The average price of homes rose by four per cent in the past 12 months, less than Spain's 4.6 per cent inflation rate, the housing ministry said.In a sign that the world financial crisis is starting to bite in continental Europe, rising interest rates have reduced Spanish spending power after 12 years of economic expansion, immigration and declining unemployment that had spurred a boom in real estate investment.

When posting a Lladro Figurine you have to remember three important things that the customer needs to know. First and foremost is the condition. They will have a lot of confidence in your product if a description lists the Lladro as having No Chips, Cracks, Crazing, or Repairs. Customers don't like to see dirt or scuffing in the pictures either. Second would be to take pictures in which the figurine takes up the entire screen. I've also seen a lot of lucrative auctions where there is a measuring tape within the picture. A Close up picture of the face to show whether the finish is Glossy or Matte is always a plus. Lastly a picture of the base is needed showing the customer the authenticity and the mold number. This one pictured above is a 5008 Called the Dreamer. In excellent Condition she
According to Mr Walker, the cost of purchasing and maintaining a property in Spain has "never been lower".He commented: "There have been falls of around 20 per cent and in the last six months it has switched to be a buyer's market."This could be of interest to people who are not necessarily looking for investment properties, such as those who are planning to retire to Spain.

I was reading in the Daily Mail today that new research has shown that there is no benefit in drinking tap water over mineral water. In fact the article was even going as far as to state that tap water can even be better for you than mineral water, as it's very closely monitored. It seems there is a campaign in the UK to get people out of the habit of drinking bottled water.Fine, but PLEASE don't apply this to water in Spain. Our tap water here in Manilva seems to have everything in it apart from H2O. It can blow a water heater apart in 6 months flat. And don't even get me started on the taste. Some of our Spanish friends won't even brush their teeth using the tap water here!I don't know what the water is like in other areas of Spain but around here if you want to live a long life then d

A report in the Telegraph suggested that even in areas of southern Spain, a region that has been subject to high levels of development, there are still investment opportunities that offer real rewards.Local market expert Sean Collins said that investors who are selective about their purchases could find "great value" in Spain. The Pure International managing director explained that "opportunistic" investors could take advantage of properties on the market in Costa del Sol, where there is established and reliable infrastructure, financing and rental pools.
A secluded hillside community is one of the hottest places for Spanish property seekers. La Mairena is a small village in the hills to the northeast of Marbella in the heart of the Costa del Sol. These tranquil hills are full of oak and cork trees, providing a beautiful setting. The area is still just a few minutes away from the Mediterranean, so beach lovers can spend as much time on the seaside as they want. And, its not far from Marbella, with plenty of shopping, restaurants and nightlife.
Spain's once-booming property market is in freefall, official statistics have revealed for the first time. The announcement that house sales had plunged has dashed government hopes for a "soft landing" in the sector that has driven the Spanish economy for more than a decade. The buying and selling of homes fell by 27 per cent in January compared with the same period last year, Spain's National Statistical Institute (INE) announced yesterday. The collapse coincided with a 25 per cent fall in the granting of mortgages, the biggest drop since 2004. The size of individual mortgages has also fallen, by nearly 4 per cent, as providers fear for the security of their loans.
