No [...]
¡Space Invaders never die!
If there is one thing that I can't stand more than anything is, "Space Invaders"! Those are the people who can't seem to get close enough to you when they have something to say, the ones that are ALWAYS up in your face in a conversation that is not meant to be an intimate one.For example, I have a coworker who small remain nameless. She's the sweetest woman ever, but she's constantly invading other people's space. Just this morning a group of us were in the hallway outside of my office talking and she walks up on me and starts sniffing my neck. She caught me off guard and I moved away really quick. She then started complimenting me on my perfume (Alfred Sung, "Forever"). Ok, I'm fine with the fact that you think I smell good, I mean, I smell good everyday, but was it necessary for you to c

Space Invaders Get AwesomeFiled under: News, Imports, Screens Just a few days after the first scan, Taito has released a few screens of the new Wii Space Invaders game, Space Invaders Get Even. In this "from the Invaders' perspective" game, swarms of glowing 8-bit Invaders take down 3D cities. The player uses the Nunchuk to control the elusive UFO, and the Wii Remote to direct 300 Invaders. The stages are broken into three areas each, and there are forest, city, military, and other types of stages. We still don't know how the three types of Invader differ, but we can at least see that they can be directed at separate targets, even outside of their traditional formation. We also don't know if "DOOOOOOM!" is the sound of an explosion, or a description of the humans' fate, or if GIR is in
As a preface to this review, I did have a series of images and movies that I wanted to post alongside it that I personally captured, but I was overall dissatisfied with the quality via my digital camera and camcorder. If anyone has any suggestions at the best way to capture screenshots and videos of DS games in action, I would love to hear it for future reviews.Space Invaders Extreme - Nintendo DS, 2008The synthesizing of music and in game effects is no longer a wholly novel concept. While the most famous example that is always cited in regards to this design has been Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Rez, it is by no means the first. Over the last few decades several games have used these tools to create subtleties that are not always fully appreciated with a casual viewing (or listening). What mak

It's still a couple of months away, but with each new video I see of Space Invaders Extreme, the more excited I get over the prospects of this Space Invaders "re-visioning". Yes it borrows bits from Rez, Every Day Shooter, and the recent trend of music/shooter hybrids, but hearing remixed sound bites from the '79 Space Invaders release coupled with the new look is enough to awaken the giddy fanboy in me.I'm just hoping the game keeps the "never-ending" aspect of the original...
The official Space Invaders Extreme website has a small post in its news section that has revealed that a version of the DS 30th anniversary release of the game will be coming to the PSP. No word yet on whether or not the PSP will be getting any nifty peripherals to go with the game (chances are probably not considering it lacks an expansion slot like the DS has), but I'll keep my eyes open for any additional information that is posted for the game. I currently have the paddle controller and game on pre-order from my import outlet, so once its released in February (for the DS) I'll be sure to post a few more impressions about the surrealistic Rez-like experience. I'm glad to see the game evolving, even if it means that the "classic" Space Invaders is only a skeleton of its former self.
Famitsu has started posting their Tokyo Game Show updates that have started to roll into the magazine/website. Though most haven't really caught my eye as anything spectacular yet, one game stood out quite a bit among all the others. Space Invaders. In honor of the 30 year anniversary (has it really been 30 years?) of one of the handful of games that started the video game revolution, Taito is releasing a new version of Space Invaders for the Nintendo DS. Not content to leave the game in its original form, the company is promising a new levels, new patterns, new background music, and an entirely new Space Invaders experience. So new in fact that they have had to add the suffix "Extreme" to the project. Not much is known about Space Invaders Extreme at this point. According to the Famitsu article, the paddle controller that is being released with Arkanoid DS will also work with Space Invaders. Though it won't be arcade perfect, that control scheme should be able to adequately subs
Shigeru Miyamoto is seen as the father of modern video gaming, he created iconic gaming characters like Donkey Kong, Mario and Link. Working with Nintendo on the Wii is the company’s lattest big hit. Time magazine got to ask him some gamers questions, these are the most interesting answers:
Question: Do you think the success of the Wii–an interactive system that emphasizes physical activity–will change the gaming culture? —Will Chung, TAIPEI
I hope that in 10 years people will look back and see both the Wii and Nintendo DS [a handheld system] as devices that helped redefine what a video game is–if you can even call it a video game.
Question: Are you happy that the Wii is seen as a form of exercise? —Jonah Eaton, LAUREL, MD.
While working on Wii Fit [a new exercise game with a balance board for yoga and other activities], we got letters from fans who wanted some type of exercise program. We were very happy to see that response from consumers, but it also put
I can’t help being into Retro Gaming. All the fancy graphics and so on they add to modern games don’t make up when there’s a lack of game play. Don’t get me wrong: there are many great modern games. But modern games are not any better, or worse, than the classics games. Prettier, and bulkier. But not better.
Space Invaders, which practically invented the arcade game industry is a case in point. Bare bones graphics, simple game play, and still as additive as it was back in 1980.
All you have to do is move your little ship back and forth on the screen, using the space bar to fire. The enemy ships march across the screen firing down at you at random, and trying to land on your planet. Once in a while, a higher valued ship crawls along the top of the screen. Nail it and gain some bonus points.
There’s really nothing left to say about Space Invaders that hasn’t been said for almost thirty years. Discover (or re-discover) how little has really changed in w

Pushing the integration of Electronic further into fibre and fabric based applications, La Tête Au Cube designed the Back Off door mat with display.
Unlike the Music Textile, the ‘Space Invader Doormat’ is a real product that can be ordered and end up in front of your door.
We think the design idea was to keep unwanted visitors away from your door but with this doormat you will most likely attract a lot more visitor.
The Back Off door mat runs on 2 AA batteries and uses flat panel LEDs to bring on the action just like we know it from Space Invaders…
The mat is made out of rubberized plastic, so it’s industrial grade and it will clean your visitors shoes well. For those who think that size matters, it is 63×40 cm or 24″x16″ depending on where you are…
We give it a high note on originality of the idea, the practicality might not be that obvious but then, do we not all love sometimes also not-so-practical stuff?

Here’s the problem with setting a video game in outer space: There’s nothing to do out there. It’s a vacuum. No one can hear you scream. So most science fiction games don’t actually spend much time there. Space travel is about as romantic as a cross-town bus ride, merely a means to get from point A to point B. Yes, there are exceptions like the old Star Wars dog-fighting games, but usually all the action is planet-side.I’m talking about some of the greatest franchises in gaming – Halo, Metroid, Doom, Xenosaga – so I’m not really complaining. The games reviewed here also take place mainly on solid ground, ranging from humid jungles to desert wastelands. In the meantime, I’m still looking for a game that truly captures the grandeur of space flight. STAR WARS: LETHAL ALLIANCEYeah, we’ve all heard of the Rebel Alliance; Lethal Alliance is something else. It refers to Rianna, a Twi’lek mercenary out for revenge against the Empire, and Zeeo, a droid that can zap Stormtr
Space Invaders, now there is a video game that I was good at. I could play it for hours when I was younger. Someone decided it would be fun to create an animation of the classic space invaders video game using real people. Thought it was well done and it takes me back.Tags: video game, space invaders, youtube, video, videorambler
The oldest name in the game is back at it. Today, Midway Games issued a press release confirming the development of Blacksite: Area 51. The Chicago-based company states that the game will be released for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, just as its predecessor; Area 51. Released in April of 2005, the original Area 51 was referred to by some as "Halo for the PS3", although Midway's offering did not generate nearly the fervor that Microsoft's title did. Blacksite is being developed by Midway Studios - Austin, formerly known as Inevitable Entertainment. Due to Midway's declining financial standings in the past few years, Blacksite could be the game that puts them back on track.Windows Vista drops tomorrow, and with it, DirectX 10. I would like to see them release the PC version of the game utilizing DirectX 10, but since there will very likely still be a lot of people running Windows XP (which is not DX10-compatible) by the time that this game is released, Midway could play it safe and stick wit
