      Just keep on sowing...
I was having a discussion today with a friend about sowing into people's lives. Sowing the Word of God into their hearts. Sowing and sowing. I was feeling quite sad that not all we sow would not reap a harvest. It felt like a bit of a waste of time. So I went to the Word of God and read the parable Jesus taught about the Sower and the seed."Once there was a man who went out to sow grain. As he sca

Sowing the Seeds of Palin Hatred at Barack Obama Community Blogs
If the following vitriolic rant can be fully discounted by the Obama camp with this disclaimer: “Content on blogs in My.BarackObama represents the opinions of community members and in no way should be interpreted as endorsed or approved by the campaign.” Then why I ask are random acts of certain individuals at McCain - Palin rallies [...]

      Sowing seeds...
As we prepare for our upcoming Block Party, I came across this section of scripture. It came from our PowerUP devotional book for today. This section talks about us giving cheerfully. Many only equate giving with money, but it also includes our time, among other things. Today's passage is from 2 Corinthians 9:6-10..."But this I say , He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he

      Sowing seeds in a Garden
As you start a garden, you must first till the soil, fertilize it, and then plant your flowers, trees, bushes, vegetable plants, etc. There are different ways you can do this, either by planting seedlings, transplanting entire plants, or sowing seeds. If you want to save some money, you can sow seeds. This way, all you have to buy is seeds which will probably only cost you a couple dollars for a l

      Update on Winter Sowing Experiment
Believe it or not some of my wintersown seeds that actually bore seedlings are just getting into their permanent home in the ground.  I have some White Swan Echinacea and Japanese Irises that actually sprouted in June and survived the heat and rains.  They are going to find their home next to some hollyhocks behind [...]

      Sowing Seeds of Love
Over the past few weeks since I started my workout routine I had a feeling that something was up.  If you’ve read my blog posts from the beginning you’ll find some irony in what I’m about to tell you. After a few weeks of sickness - stomach ache, nausea, shakiness - I discovered that I was [...]

      Winter Sowing Experiment Follow Up
Even though it seems I’ve had more failure than success at this endeavor it wasn’t a total loss.  There are some Japanese Irises that are growing; they are no more than 1/2 an inch tall, but they are growing.  Also, some of my daisy flats have germinated and are growing.  If they survive for me [...]

      Winter Sowing Experiment’s First Sprouts
I’d felt a bit dejected over the fact that none of my little greenhouses had shown signs of life.  So, today I decided to move them to a more exposed area with more sunlight.  As I was doing this I noticed green. I thought, “Could it be?”.  Sure enough one little flat of all the [...]

      Direct Sowing In The Garden
This week many seedlings have been popping up in the garden. Most of them are from seeds that I sowed directly either over the winter or late March and early April. If you're a somewhat lazy gardener like myself direct sowing has to be the easiest method of germinating seeds for your garden. The only thing we as gardeners need to do is provide the seeds and Mother Nature will do most of the work for us. Since I had a number of different seeds and didn't want to start them in home made greenhouses I just scattered most of them in bare spots in the garden. In some cases like the image above I actually went a step further and first plotted out a line where I would plop these seeds. But it's pretty rare that I do that because in my garden I don't necessarily strive for perfect lines and symmetry.Garden Blogger in Chicago

      Sowing The Seeds Of Disaster
It used to be the case, and perhaps still is, that tobacco companies would go into poor areas of the world and persuade subsistence farmers to grow their tobacco crops for money. The subsistence farmer then became, not a provider of food for his family, but a wage earner who then had to buy food from someone else. Then the tobacco companies found somebody else to grow their crops more cheaply and moved on. The farmer was left with the task of returning his land to food crops, with probably no money to buy food until his crop could be harvested. For some people, of course, tobacco is a drug. You get addicted. You cannot kick the habit. It does, however, earn massive tax revenues, which street drugs do not. So, there is a clear moral distinction here. Taxable drugs=good, non-taxable drugs=bad. You could probably make the moral even more simple: rich=good, poor=bad. The plan in Afghanistan has been to plough up and destroy the fields of crops if people are found to be growing poppies. The
