I won't lie, I chose this dish because it gave me an excuse to get more tortillas. I love tortillas and I will take any excuse to eat them. I think I confessed once that I used to eat leftover spaghetti in tortillas in college. I am currently under the spell of the whole wheat flour tortillas that Whole Foods carries in their bakery department. Glorious, they are. I've been eating them with hummus and peanut butter (not together) and just plain. This recipe was a lovely way to fill those tortillas, let me tell you. The more we have it, the more I just adore tofu. It is a perfect flavor chameleon, super healthy and just so versatile! I had never "scrambled" tofu before and I was a little nervous. I know they're supposed to take on the texture of scrambled eggs, and in a way they did, but wit

It is not a recipe to make when you need a quick meal. The preparation of the ingredients took me almost an hour. The original recipe called for [...]

As doctors, time becomes more limited, communication with patients becomes more important and the need for doctor-patient understanding becomes critical. Southwestern Medical Dictionary is a book that helps bridge the gap between the professional language of health care providers and that of people whose first language is Spanish. Unlike other bilingual dictionaries that emphasize scientific terms, this one focuses on standard Spanish terms as well as regional expressions peculiar to Mexican Spanish--language encountered in Chicago as easily as in Phoenix. Now available in a revised edition, this handy reference features more than 3,000 entries, new entries that reflect current health problems and treatments, and more material on medicinal plants, including an appendix of poisonous and nonpoisonous plants. Check out this article and see how it hits you. Honestly, at first I was a little put out. I couldn't believe how narrow-minded these people must be to not allow speaking in tongues at their college. Then I thought about it - this is a seminary. This is where they're training people in the basics of Baptist doctrine. And if speaking in tongues isn't considered a cornerstone of Baptist doctrine, they probably shouldn't promote it at the school.
But doesn't it seem just a little harsh to completely ban the practice? The original controversy stemmed from a sermon delivered by one of their trustees, and the original phrase he used was "private prayer language". Maybe they could've found a middle ground (like the U.S. military, for example) and had a don't ask don't tell policy. Let what goes on in private stay private.
I will say that I do have a lot of respect for SBTC in that they are attempting to do something that is becoming more and more foreign in Christian circ
It's raining here in southern California on the last day of my trip so I thought I might try and do something really sensible(!) and pull together a list of the blog posts that I need to start creating when I get home to London (end of this week) and back to my computer/scanner/software/etc.
As has been correctly surmised already, trying to post on the road has proved to be well nigh impossible. On the couple of days I've actually had access to a computer I've also had lots of other practical trip related matters to sort out.
So - by way of a tempter - here's a summary of my trip to the south western states of the USA. I'll insert all the blog post links to this summary as I post the entry for each day.
[1 October 2006: This blog entry has now been updated to include the final titles and posts
relating to this trip and associated
hyperlinks.]
The preliminary indications of some blog post titles are given below - along with some brief descriptions of the journey and some indicat
This time tomorrow morning I start my next big trip with a sketchbook (and the rest!) when I board a plane heading for California.
During July, I'm going to be:- visiting San Diego and Southern California- attending a pastel workshop (next weekend) with Dianna Ponting SFCA PPC, MPAC, PSA- travelling with friends across Arizona to New Mexico in order to..........- stay in Albuquerque to attend, as a member, the 14th Annual Convention and Exhibition of the Conference of the Coloured Pencil Society of America (CPSA) and hopefully do some pastel sketches as well- visit Santa Fe
- and then return to California and, hopefully, fly up north and then drive back down the central coast visiting Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, and San Luis Obispo en route.
The whole trip will be recorded - with photos and sketches and maybe pastel paintings - in this blog - "Travels with a Sketchbook in.........". What actually gets posted in the next three weeks (as opposed to when I get home) is rather going to d
