Avid readers already know that Jessica and I avoid most fast food like the plague. Just like the plague, sometimes one can't help but catch it. So when a coupon for a free McDonald's Southern-Style Biscuit made it into my hands, I was lured in. So this morning I went an extra block out of the way to pick up the gift from America's kitchen away from home.Mickey D's was damn fast. Baby Remains Found In Pickle Jar

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA– A medical examiner Wednesday listed the cause of death as undetermined for a baby girl whose remains were found in a pickle jar in February. The baby was a 7-month-old fetus with light skin and curly black hair with more than 6 cm of umbilical cord still attached.
Salicylates, a compound commonly found in painkillers, was discovered in the fetus’ chest and abdominal fluid, according to the report.
A construction crew discovered the two-gallon jar while working on State Road 80.

Last night we watched the season finale of the L word, which was recheduled due to my party. (What an amazing group, huh?) We usually viewed it the night it airs–Sunday–which meant I always rushed from the tasting room into the city. This time, however, I got a turn at cooking dinner, hopefully backing up my promise of culinary skills.
Deciding to forego fancy and a chance at making a great wine pairing, I opted to go for some down-home cooking. Fried chicken. A combo of collards and mustard greens cooked in what we back home call ‘pot likker.’ Skillet cornbread, which I insisted everyone dip into the pot liquor.
