Finally the folks of the United States have spoken out against the global warming hysteria by approving to rezone farm land for a new oil refinery. The facility, when built, will create 1,826 new full-time jobs and during construction will require the services of 4,500 construction workers. The people of South Dakota aren’t afraid of [...]
South Dakota residents should be proud of themselves. In a time when Washington, D.C. offers no solutions and double-talking politicians complain about gas prices while blocking any effort to drill domestically, South Dakota comes through with a solution. The South Dakota parole board has denied Debra Jenner parole for the 8th time. It is reported that at least one board member thinks the "grisly nature" of her crime is her biggest obstacle. Governor Bill Janklow commuted Jenner's life sentence without parole to 100-years after she admitted killing her 3-year-old daughter (see other details here). Jenner told members of the parole board she could l
Debra Jenner has been denied parole seven times, but, will seek her freedom once again next week. In 1987, she stabbed her three-year-old daughter, Abby, 70 times with a Chicago Cutlery knife because the child was "fussy" (read more about the details of the murder here). In 2003, Jenner admitted her guilt in taped interviews and former Governor Bill Janklow (R) commuted her sentence to 100 years in prison. Chief Deputy Attorney General Mark Barnett opposes her release, however, because he says Jenner privately tells fellow inmates that she is innocent. As such, the 50-year old's sentence will end in 2039, with good behavior. Jenner's original sentence was life without the possibility of parole.
In an attempt to challenge the supreme court, South Dakota voters will be voting on a referendum to ban many abortions. South Dakota voted on a much more strict version of this bill two years ago and it was narrowly defeated. This bill offers a few changes.

This post, at the ArgusLeader, retells the story of "the Janklow 36." Twenty-two years ago, in October of 1986, Governor Bill Janlow (R) addressed the prison overcrowding pardon by releasing individuals that he considered to be "low-risk inmates with few South Dakota ties." Thus, the commutations were conditioned on the recipients leaving the state and never returning. The article says a commutation of that sort "has not been granted in South Dakota before or since." The result of the effort? The ArgusLeader notes:It was a gamble that, according to an Argus Leader investigation, turned out to be a much bigger public safety risk to South Dakota and other states than the governor probably ever imagined. A few took advantage of the release to re-enter society, starting families and businesses

Abortion opponents are an interesting lot. For years, they have argued that all abortion is wrong as it involves the taking of a life. An inability to sway the public to embrace laws that would ban all abortions seems to be leading pro-lifers to adopt an incremental approach. South Dakota appears to be the battleground [...]

Last summer we loaded up the kids (ages 13,11 and 6) and headed for the hills. The Black Hills of South Dakota to be exact. We spent 3 weeks on this trip and easily could have added a couple more. Coming from Michigan along the I-80/I-90 we hit many fun places along the way…

Levi Johnson claims that he broke the world record for hot sauce consumption up in Tea South Dakota. Levi downed 5.5 ounces of Tobasco at a sports bar. 5.5 ounces may not sound like much but a shot is 1.5 ounces. So Levi had 3 2/3′ds shots of hot sauce.
That’s a lot of Tobasco. Most people only use a few dashes of tobasco to spice things up. One of my favorite shots to give someone on their 21st birthday is a Prairie Fire. It is a shot of tequila with tobasco added. Even with that shot, only a few dashes are added.
The Guinness Book of World Records is still in the verification process of Levi’s claim. Reports do not indicate how much liquor was consumed that led up to Levi’s daring demonstration, but witnesses report hearing a “Whooooo!” exclaimed shorly there after. Levi’s rectum was unavailable for comment the next day.

I did not go on this trip, but I'm sharing pictures taken by Doug and his friend, John, as they rode their motorcycles across Minnesota and South Dakota to this year's motorcycle rally in Sturgis.DougJohnYes, the guys did wear protective jackets and helmets. It was very hot, though, so when they stopped at different places, they immediately took off their gear. In some places, the temperature was over 100°F.SturgisHill CityOf course, now I wish I had gone because I'm thinking about all the pictures I could have taken. On the other hand, riding across Minnesota and South Dakota on the back of Doug's bike doesn't sound too comfortable.

South Dakota Real Estate by Seth Willis Jr.South Dakota is a state known for having great places is found in the central-north region of United States. Its name came from American Indian tribes. The largest and longest river in the state, the Missouri river has divided the state into two, the east river and the west river.South Dakota’s EnvironmentOne distinct feature of South Dakota real estate is the group of low mountains vastly covered by pine trees, known to the residents as the Black Hills. Because of its appearance, it has become one of the tourist attractions of the state, apart from this; it has been a religious sanctity of local people living there, particularly the American Indians. Black Hills is rich with minerals, and in fact the largest gold mine in the United States is situated here, the Homestake Mine. The place was also one of the many choices being considered by the United Nations to be its permanent home.Very Low PopulationSouth Dakota real estate still registers
Occasionally I Google news stories that have to do with tea, because, well, I suppose I'm a bit off. Anyway, one story popped up with a title that caught my eye:Tea residents want to shut down adult-novelty storeWhat the hell, I asked myself, was a "tea resident"? Well, it turns out "tea" was actually Tea, and it wasn't referring to my favorite beverage, but rather the village of Tea, South Dakota. Apparently an "adult novelty" store opened on the outskirts of Tea, and the town elders decided that simply wouldn't do. (Ironically, the paper which ran the story, the Argus Leader out of Sioux Falls, ran a big color ad for "Annabelle's Adult Super Center" right next to the article...) Anyway, it wasn't much of a story, but it did introduce me to the wonderfully quaint idea that there was actually a town out in the middle of nowhere (apologies to South Dakotans, but it's true and you know it) named after my drink of choice. Of course I had to find out more. It so happened that at arou

National Geographic Traveler is the only magazine I subscribe to, and when it comes in the mail I check the contents immediately. What destinations did they write about this time? The newest issue came with several good articles, including "Zigzagging the Black Hills".I smiled when I read the article because it reminded me of our first big road trip with the boys (they were 6, 4 and almost 2 years old), although our itinerary varied a bit from Traveler's. It was a 9 hour drive from our house to Badlands National Park with 1 hour stops in Sioux Falls for a picnic lunch and in Mitchell to visit the Corn Palace. We arrived in the Badlands in time for a short hike before dinner. We decided to hike the window trail near the northeast entrance. The boys loved the climbing, and we had to hold on to our youngest who thought he could do whatever his brothers did. After dinner we did some more exploring. The striped sandstone hills were amazing to see as the sun set. If you don't have y

Three months after South Dakota voters rejected an abortion ban at the polls by a 56-44 margin, state legislators have introduced another "sweeping abortion bill…that supporters hope will lead to a legal challenge of Roe v. Wade"
The ban rejected in November was "extreme, allowing for abortion only in instances to prevent the death of a woman. The revised ban, titled the "Women's Health and Human Life Protection Act,' offers additional exceptions, though they are very narrowly defined"

Pierre, South Dakota - A coalition of military and consumer groups that persuaded Congress to impose a 36 percent interest-rate cap on payday loans to military members and their families is gearing up to fight the whole issue all over again.
It's payback time for the religious right. South Dakota's new law will let us see how America copes in a post-Roe world. And I can only blame liberals for allowing it to happen. But, that's beside the point.I figure it's gone. If Alito and the gang don't overturn it, then measures will have to be taken to further ensure their security. Too many people on the right have given up everything to see it happen. And they won't be happy if their president from God, whose given them a Supreme Court from God doesn't come though.
