New polls in South Carolina show that Barack Obama is now in a virtual tie with Senator Clinton. The Real Clear Politics averaged polls together for South Carolina and found Clinton with only a .7 percent lead over Obama. Clinton previously held double digit leads over Obama as recently as the end of November (American Research Group poll Nov. 26-29, 2007). According to Barack Obama's website the Oprah event in South Carolina generated thousands of new support contacts. 9,600 people at the event signed supporter cards with the campaign for the first time. 68 percent of the people who signed up for the rally had never communicated with the campaign before. Perhaps having Oprah bring in 29,000 people to the event really did help to generate new support for Obama in South Carolina. South Carolina is the state where Obama saw the largest bump in the polls
The Queen of Talk TV, Oprah Winfrey, has taken her political support for Barack Obama on the road. Over the weekend, Oprah tours the country with Obama, specifically in the states of Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire. The power duo turned out 10,000 - 20,000 people in Iowa, 10,000 in New Hampshire, and tons of folks in South Carolina, according to RollingStone.com. Without getting into politics 101, these states have early primaries (January 3rd, January 8th, and January 26, respectively) and are key predictors of the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates.

The News is looking very good poll-wise right now for Mike Huckabee. With the latest numbers coming in for Iowa I decided to check the status for other states and the surge continues! Mike is polling at his highest level in several states: Florida (9%), South Carolina (12%), and even in Nevada (5%)! New poll numbers should come in for Michigan pretty soon, maybe even later this week and I think he will be running higher there too since Mike just campaigned there. There is one other poll from Iowa that just came out. Even though it is not quite as high as the CBS/NYT poll, Strategic Vision has Mike at 19% in Iowa (higher than he has polled in that one ever!)
