Sony Vegas Movie Studio is a consumer-based nonlinear video editing software designed for the PC. It is a scaled-down version of Sony Vegas. Sony Vegas editing & issues
Learning Sony Vegas has been quite fun. I started with a bittorrent version, the latest version 7, but as I was so impressed by it (And that you had no manuals. Ed) I bought Vegas Movie Studio v6. You get ‘Getting you started’ manuals and some great tutorials. I had some issues including the several ways of getting video files into a Vegas project. I tried and had some success with mpeg2 files then read that Vegas isn’t so hot at editing them. I never noticed any problem. I also directly loaded VOB files which worked OK as well. But the best way to load video files was to let Vegas read them from the mini-DVD. This gave you a separate file for each recording session so it was a quick start for the creation of chapters. Learning how to get some video to run in slow motion was a pain and was finally rectified when I found out the Velocity Envelopes don’t work in Studio v6. I did Google for whether slow motion can be accomplished in v6 and confusingly found ans

Sony Vegas tutorials & Wordpress statistics
Have been playing around with Sony Vegas and have run some of the tutorials which are good. They give you just enough prodding and they keep track of where you are if you go off a bit and experiment with other functionality. There are three tracks for video and three for audio. When you load a mpg video file the video is loaded onto one of the video tracks and the audio is obviously loaded onto one of the audio tracks. I played around and added some music to a second audio track and you can edit that to your hearts content, increasing and lowering the volume of both the music and video audio track independently. A third audio track could be used for sound effects. Insertion of transitions seems to work how you would expect them to as does titleing and the insertion of still photographs. I need to figure out how to play back the video and audio track in slow motion whilst the music track is played back normally. The original version of Vegas I was using was the full version 7 which I g

Sony Vegas, response to India’s infrastructure and some testers
All I wanted to do was tidy up a couple of mini DVD VOB files and rewrite them to standard DVD so I could send them to anyone interested (No interest here, at all. Ed).  But is it as easy as I thought? Is it hell. It’s like doing the music editing and recording to CD stuff from 10 years ago, squared. If I could have gotten Windows Movie Maker (WMM) to work it may have been easier. But I couldn’t get it to load the MPG files so have ended up using Sony Vegas, a much more complex beast. I have managed to do some rudimentary editing and chained the 4 MPG files together. Now I need to work out how to do the transitions, find out how to apply some subtitles, possibly some voice over, background music and titles, jeez this is getting out of control. That should keep me off the street for awhile. Then when I am happy with all of that I can try and record it to DVD. Weeks of fun. I wrote a blog entry yesterday on India’s abysmal infrastructure. All of it was lifted fro

Renaming VOB files as MPG, load fine in Sony Vegas but not in Windows Movie Maker
Cyberlink Powerencoder is supposed to be a file converter. I downloaded it to convert VOB files to MPG so that they can be used in Windows Movie Maker. This is the fourth converter I have tried. I tried Powerencoder on two different VOB files and both failed after a while, though there was an MPG file created of what it had managed to convert. I tried loading both of these files into WMM but both failed, probably because the conversion hadn’t finished properly and therefore the MPG file hadn’t written some form of trailer record. Just read that VOB (Video Object) files are container format files that contain video, audio, subtitles and menu contents in stream form, whatever that is. They are similar to MPEG2. If the extension of the VOB files are changed to MPG the file is still readable and continues to hold all of the information apart from the subtitles (Good riddance. Ed). With that in mind I have just made copies of two of the VOB files and renamed the extension to M

Converting VOB files, DVD Decrypter & Sony Vegas
Somebody suggested DVD Decrypter to convert VOB files to a format that Windows Move Maker recognises. Downloaded and installed it and pointed it at a home DVD and it did its stuff, result all the VOB files were copied to the hard drive. Not quite what I wanted. Its appears that this software is for copying copy protected DVD’s. It’ll also remove region codes and it’s illegal to use in the US. When I watched one of the the ripped VOB files, with Nero Showtime, I noticed that it was actually missing the end of the file, probably about 20 seconds worth of film. I can see that this video messing is not going to be that straight forward. First off I will play the two original mini DVD VOB files on the PC and note the exact length of each then use DVD Decrypter to rip them both again and see how much is lost. If both ripped files are shy then Uninstall DVD Decrypter and try something else. Downloaded something called ChopperFX which is supposed to convert VOB files to
