Die neue Musiksuite Songbird der Mozilla-Gruppe ist nun in der Version 0.3 erschienen und bietet nun auch eine passende Web-API an. Somit kann man als Webseitenanbieter auf die Funktionen dieses Programmes zugreifen. Damit erhält man auch eine Kombination aus Browser und Mediaplayer.
Ob es Sinn macht und wie sich das in Zukunft verhalten wird, ist eher schlecht abzuschätzen, zumal auch Songbird ja nicht wirklich ein Standard unter den Playern ist.
Aber auch eine eigene Add-On-API wird angeboten, wodurch hier Entwickler ihre eigenen Add-Ons für Songbird programmieren können.
Da Songbird von der Mozilla-Gruppe kommt, ist es Open-Source und gibt es daher auch für die Gängigen Betriebsplattformen wie für Windows, Linux und MacOS X.
Auch wenn sich Songbird wie viele andere Konkurrenten, sich sehr nahe an der Bedienung und Oberfläche von iTunes anlegen, ist es tatsächlich keine echte Konkurrenz, denn bei allem Freiheitsglauben zu Open-Source sollte man nicht vergessen, dass S
