Keane - Somewhere Only We Know
Lyrics: I walked across an empty land I knew the pathway like the back of my hand I felt the earth beneath my feet Sat by the river and it made me complete Oh simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old and I need something to rely on So tell me when you're gonna let me in I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin I came across a fallen tree I felt the branches of it looking at me

Let’s see if I am able to keep my grade from my first orals, or maybe even get a higher one this time around. I never really liked the second semester. Scholastically, my grades drop down a

Can a building be 'based' somewhere?
Free London paper Metro today carries a news story with an interesting boxout on the 'Diamond Light Microscope'. It starts:This building, based in Oxfordshire is a giant microscope and is as big as five football pitches. It can produce the brightest light in the known universe – 10billion times brighter than the Sun.No, I'm not going to talk today about the use of commas, or about proper nouns. Instead I want to ask: is it possible for a building to be 'based' somewhere?People, businesses and organisations can be 'based' somewhere, using that base as a "centre of operations" (OED). But buildings? Surely there are 'located', 'situated', or just 'are'.Of course Metro could have steered clear of verbs entirely, and simply written "This Oxfordshire building" or "This building in Oxfordshire"

I have not had a drink since August 12, 2007. Here I am fully immersed in the holiday season and my cheer has gone the way of my martini; nowhere to be found. And I’m in full cold/flu mode. I just got off the phone with my mother (she knows I am in AA) and she told me to have a hot toddy with a shot of vodka! I reminded her that I don’t drink and she told me that even little babies are given vodka in hot water when they are sick. Hmmm, I guess I just realized that she was feeding me the stuff before I could even talk; silly me, I thought I  started drinking when I was a teenager!Ohhhh, it’s very frustrating trying to convince my parents that I don’t

Now You're Getting Somewhere
I just sent off an email to someone, thanking them for their thorough critique. Their critique was not a positive assessment of my book proposal. It pointed out several weak points. It was specific and detailed. Initially I felt defeated and deflated. Then a strange sense of delight came over me as the day went on.Someone took the time to inform me of their valuable judgment and their seasoned viewpoint. I was amazed at how much time this agent took to explain to me what he saw lacking in my proposal. If someone takes the time, a full page at that, to go through your proposal and point out all the things that are wrong, that's a good thing. It's called feedback. Now I know what's wrong with that particular proposal.Makes me remember a relationship I had in my dating days. I had dated this guy, a generous soul, but had not invested much of myself in the relationship. I broke up with him without giving him much of a reason. But then a year or so later, I was at a low point in my life,

I like to shop when the stores are empty... when I can stroll quietly up and down every isle and look at things. I also love shopping online. When I can do my grocery shopping online, I will be a happy girl!!Tim, on the other hand, loves a crowd. He loves people. When he has a day off, he wants to know what were going to do. Ummm. sit around and eat chocolate? What? You don't like that idea? This morning the kids woke up at 7am and Tim jumped out of bed. I didn't think anything of it. Until Tim didn't come back.... and the house got quiet. I may have drifted in and out of sleep for awhile... but the quietness woke me up completely. The Lint In The Dryer Comes From Somewhere
Recently I had a revelation that was both startling and trivial. At one point in the past, I had purchased two complete, identical sets of towels. Each set contained 1 large bath towel, one small face/hand towel, and one washcloth. I began using Set 1 and put Set 2 aside. Now, months later, I just recently brought Set 2 out of storage. I compared the sets. Set 2 is definitely fuller, thicker, softer, and overall more inviting. Set 1 is still mostly clean-looking, but is definitely thinner. They were both the same to begin with. But now the set I haven't been using seems awesome compared to its twin. Why is this?As cloth items are used, they slowly lose small pieces of themselves. I now remember that just after I had bought the towels, the set I was using seemed to be "shedding." I guess it never stopped. Never before have I considered the implications of lint. I thought it was a trivial matter of trivial buildup that never amounted to anything. Now I see that months of "l

Somewhere In California, A Confused Liberal Scratches Their Head
A post office in Paso Robles, CA has been proudly displaying photos of local men and women serving their country in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001. The photos have greeted customers every day without hesitation until one individual customer found that gazing upon the faces of those risking their lives for his or her freedom offensive and labeled it as "pro-war" tribute. When the local post master refused to buckle under the numerous complaints of one individual, the customer took the complaints to a higher level. This resulted in what was thought to be the indefinite removal of the photos. However this time the story does not end with one individual's warped sense of politics being satisfied at the expense of heartaches to thousands.Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) took quick action after receiving dozens of phone calls from constituents upset about the removal. He vowed to have the photos returned even if he had to change postal regulations to do it.It appears that Mc

Did I Read That A Proposed Solution To Global Warming Is To Drop A Few Nuclear Bombs Somewhere?
The other day, I could have sworn I read something somewhere about George Bush holding onto a last-ditch effort to "fix" global warming by detonating nuclear weapons at precise locations. Maybe out in the ocean somewhere? Where did I read this? I can't find it on the net... Maybe someone knows where this story is, or if it even exists? If we bombed the ocean, what would that do? Nuclear weapons are hot, so it would release energy that would heat up the immediate area. More global warming?Maybe the idea was to disrupt some ocean currents so that instead of moving in a "heating" pattern, they adjust to a "cooling" pattern. That could work -- maybe.I don't know...Maybe I made the story up and forgot that its roots were in the Land of Imagination. But I could have sworn I read it somewhere! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      Somewhere In Inner Mongolia
From hereon I'm going to be vague about where we went and the people we met, in order that our work in this region may continue and grow without hindrance. If you hadn't realised it yet, the purpose of our trip wasn't to climb great walls or indulge in too much shopping and eating; it just happened that those were 'safe' subjects to write and show plenty of pics about. We embarked on a seven-hour journey to a little town in the middle of nowhere. We did not even stop for lunch and munched on sandwiches we had bought from a local deli (which our drivers found inedible). At about three in the afternoon, we finally reached our destination; which was DL's hometown.DL, as mentioned previously, was a local Mongolian and university student who joined us as our tour guide, and she's also a wonderful soul winner. She had not been home in nearly a year and was naturally extremely excited to see her parents again. We were privileged to be welcomed warmly into a real Mongolian household, front

Sally's 2nd New Buffalo: Somewhere, Anywhere!
I'd have to say the fact that she's married to Darren Seltmann of the Avalanches is really cool and rather interesting.  I'm not saying you gotta make the same style music but yea...I guess I'm kind of saying that.  Sally Seltmann has been New Buffalo for actually quite a while but has been on and off and working with different artists like Jens Lekman.  In late March, off the Arts&Crafts label, Sally kicked out her new album Somewhere, Anywhere.  We love our synth-pop tunes and Sally does it well with her keyboards and vocal harmonies.  Her catchy piano playing and those light vocals make for easy  favorites.  If you listen carefully, sometimes there are some really strange electronic sounds in her songs.  Happy Happy Happy! City & Sea (Lady Nameless)Emotional ChampRecoveryNew Buffalo will be rollin' through the U.S. in a short 8 city tour including Oct. 30th at the Orpheum Theatre in LA with Stars.

There is an Aesop's Fable here somewhere...
You remember Aesop, right?  He was some old guy who used to tell stories about boys and wolves and foxes and grapes and um...the little engine that could and uh...that chicken with the sky falling...no wait...Well, he had a lot of stories anyway.I had a slightly different post in mind today.  This post was originally just going to be about how many of my longtime blogging friends have now joined PayPerPost.  I'm talking about folks who don't know much about page rank or Alexa or search engine optimization.  They just like to blog, and they like the idea of earning a little money by taking opps that they are interested in or that they feel fit their site. And this post is still kind of about that. But it's also about a post I read on a well known tech blog recently containing more negative comments about PayPerPost.  Those of you "in the know" or who read the boards regularly know what I'm talking about.  I don't really want to link the post.&

Now everyone knows Im into these crazy things, but this puts a whole knew twist on things, Vision Bedding is a site dedicated to designing bedding, you can put your own pictures on them. Which is a funky idea, so many people want something they can both use and look at and say “yup I went there”. I have looked over the site, its nice and simple, but its alittle “busy” for me, but I do like the ease of payment (paypal) and its quick to order aswell, but I was impressed when I saw “As seen in LA Times & on VH1 Reality TV” now that is some good advertising. I just love the idea you can get picture blankets for a good price, normally you would have to goto a specialist, they would say “right it will take 4 months and $600 - $1000″ but these guys are quick, cheap and have a good, polite way about them. All I can say is if you want one go for it, this company is the best you can get.

Single Somewhere There’s An Angel Sells For £100
Apparently the Single “Somewhere there’s An Angel” has sold 70 copies for £100 a piece making this the most expensive single ever released. Thurston Revival put ‘Somewhere There’s An Angel’ on sale for £100, says the artist, to make people realise that music is art. Dan O’Connell, who is the singer and songwriter behind the record, has said “that the single may be pricey, but it could make a good investment. Almost everything you read is built around a discussion of music as a commodity this brings the focus back to the music to be thought of as art.” He went on to say that CDs are getting cheaper and cheaper all the time, downloads are pretty cheap and somewhere there’s a message being sent to people that music has no value and we totally don’t agree with that. We believe music does still have a value.” What do you think does music still have a value? Would you spend £100 on one single? Written by Kerry for Product ReviewsIn S

I really am rather naughty, aren’t I? I spent the entire day on Saturday last week being tied to the kitchen as I churned out a number of dishes to blog, and I haven’t blogged a single one! However, it can’t be helped - I have an almost ridiculous amount of work going on with uni at the moment, and the idea of sitting down and banging away on the keyboard for longer than necessary is kind of really chafing my arse (which, to you Northerners, is our sensible equivalent to your gluteul reference - ‘ass’) at the moment. No, really. I almost feel like I’m developing bed sores, my arse has carved itself a nice little hollow into the seat and as I get more and more stressed, I feel like I’m melting to the chair. Who the heck said that students have it easy? What a load of bollocks - trying to be a good student is a downright pain in the butt! Okay, so enough of my bitching and moaning, yeah? Let me tell you more about this dish. Now, I’ve me

Every now and again, I’m going to bring back an older post that many of you frequenting my site may not have had the opportunity to read. Here is one of them now: As I walk into the bathroom, I hear someone talking very excitedly into the phone in the closed-door stall. Curious, I listen in as I use the urinal. Him: “Listen, baby, I’m here with my wife. How’s an hour sound?…Okay…Yea…Yea…No, that won’t work…Yea!…Okay, see you then.” The look he gave me as he walked out of the stall and saw me washing my hands was one of first confusion and then fear. My expression nearly matched his as I realized this was the same man who just minutes ago I was serving onion soup and two Philadelphia sushi rolls to. I didn’t know this dude was my customer. For the rest of the meal, the knot in my stomach made its way up into my throat as I saw this man affectionately kiss his wife, hold her hand with his left and feed his in

Well It is! I Have a Cocktail I make that friends and family make Special Request for. I made several pitchers for our July 4th party, so I wanted to everyone to take a Look See. It is the Easiest Cocktail in the world to make and is so Refreshing, Especially this time of year. It is the "Jamie-Special"... All it is is Vodka,(any kind you prefer, I generally like a Absolut but for this I use a Less expensive brand). The second ingredient is Gingerale and the Final and Most IMPORTANT is the Lime. Step One- take a nice Glass, fill it to the very top with Ice. Step Two- one shot of Vodka. Step Three- fill the rest of the cup with Gingerale. Step four- take at least 2-3 wedges of lime and squeeze them into the glass and then Rim the glass with the Lime wedge. I always leave one of the Wedges in the glass too. Finally there you have it the Greatest Summer Cocktail around. O.K. I am not a Lush, but after a Stressful Day with my Crew I need a Little " Mom Medicine". I also made a bit of Brues

The Bridge to Nowhere is Finally Leading Somewhere
Senator Ted Stevens and Representative Don Young, both of Alaska, are finally coming under more scrutiny regarding spending, according to the Anchorage Daily News. “When you are chairman of a committee, you represent the whole nation; you don’t represent one district, which is in my case is one state,” Young said. “Earmarks are good for the country and good for the people you represent. That is the role of a congressman. If you can’t get money for your district, you shouldn’t be in Congress.” Are the states supposed to be in some kind of competition, putting forth the representative able to get the most federal money for them? Also, Stevens says that this might change his “life in terms of employment potential.” Just say “re-election” already.

      Somewhere in the Middle
I was excited to join the Parent Bloggers Network, and eagerly took on the first assignment they offered me- a book by Suzy Cohen R.Ph., titled “The 24 Hour Pharmacist”. I initially thought it would be a book discussing different types of prescription medications. Instead it turned out to be exactly the opposite- alternatives to prescription drugs for various ailments. Oh boy…What have I gotten myself into?? I am not one to generally look to alternative medicine. There are some things I go along with, even embrace, because I know they work. I am much more likely to start cranberry pills than call a Dr. for a bladder infection, and I always eat a lot of yogurt when I am on antibiotics to help keep nasty stomach and secondary infection issues at bay. But truth be told, that’s about as far as it goes for me. I tend to avoid things I don’t feel are well-proven, and many so-called natural remedies fall under my self-imposed umbrella. With this book I got to lo

By the way, mission trips are blessings and it's our prayer that in our church, we will have many mission trips so that many more of you will come along and see the work of God in foreign lands, and see how God is blessing His people and blessing His work. Mission trips changed my life. I went to several, and all of them have been spiritual milestones for me.I remembered one of the very first I went was to the Philippines, to Bukidnon, in Northern Mindanao... and there in our youth group we would do the adventurous type... we did a lot of trekking and walking and hiking. It was an exciting time but what was most exciting for me was that I met up with the mountain churches pastors. They were pastors which did not have very much. They were very poor physicially, and they often have no idea whether they would have food on the table the very next day. They simply

Simple Minds - Someone Somewhere In Summertime (1982)
Best known in the U.S. for their 1985 number one hit "Don't You (Forget About Me)" from the film The Breakfast Club, Scotland's Simple Minds evolved from a post-punk art rock band influenced by Roxy Music into a grand, epic-sounding pop band along the lines of U2. The band grew out of a Glasgow punk group called Johnny and the Self-Abusers, which featured guitarist Charlie Burchill and lead singer Jim Kerr. The inaugural 1978 lineup of Simple Minds featured a rhythm section of Tony Donald on bass and Brian McGee on drums, plus keyboardist Mick McNeil; Donald was soon replaced by Derek Forbes. Their early albums leaped from one style to another, with Life in a Day consisting mostly of dense, arty pop songs; critical acclaim followed the darker, more experimental art rock of Reel to Real Cacophony and the Euro-disco of Empires and Dance. The group began a transition to a more accessible pop style with the albums Sons and Fascination and Sister Feelings Call, originally issued together
