"Chutney is marvelous. I'm mad about it. To me, it's very imperial."Diana Vreeland (1903-1989) GREEN WITH ENVY???When we were young, we often heard the phrase, 'Hurry up or Mom will make a chutney out of us'...often in a punishing way as many would say 'making mincemeat of us' in parallel tones! I've always joked that I was born without the female 'shoe' gene. I prefer barefeet and socks in pretty much any situation, whether I'm driving in the SUV and it's a full fledged blizzard outside or it's 104 degree's out. I've learned to keep a pair of flip flops under the passenger seat so I don't find myself unexpectedly outside a store or other place of business where I need shoes and I'm

My son, who never wins anything and can’t compete with his “perfect” sisters entered a competition today making precision tools or something I don’t understand. You know, seventeen and a half years ago, when I signed up for this daddy gig, I never imagined being where I am today.
Moments after walking in the door this evening the phone rings and it’s my eldest son.
Son: “Dad, what’s up?”
Dad: “Not much, just walking in the door. What’s up with you?”
Son: [...]
If you have been at this awhile you just know. You see the gold nuggets. Of course sometimes you don't. Other times you trust someone else and follow their lead and it works or it doesn't. I think most people expect to make it quickly. It really doesn't work that way. But, if you don't give up it will happen. You learn and grow each and every day. There are programs that have been around for a few years like the one below. I have shared this with my friends and they have opted not to do it. I respect their choice but cannot for the life of me understand why. It is a one time out of pocket cost. Some of these people have talked me into programs that cost anywhere from $10 to $60 a month, every month. And most have not paid me back yet. Anyway, read below and laugh or don't. I will keep work

Joseph is up in his room right now throwing a yelling, crying, kicking temper tantrum because Elle looked at once of his books. He's yelling things like "This proves it! I knew they never loved me!" and "Why did I even make her a mother's day present?!?" He came by the nickname Drama Joe honestly. To remind myself that he's not always a whirling dervish of emotion and angst I'll tell you a cute little story. Today when Joseph came out of school to be picked up I could see he was clutching something tightly in his hands. When he got to the car I opened up the door for him and he handed me what he had been holding: a little plastic container with 4 tiny plants growing in it. "Mommy!" he said breathlessly "I planted these at school! Now we can save money on groceries because I'm growing my own

In his latest Mortgage Credit News, columnist Lou Barnes takes Dr. Robert Shiller to task for predicting a 30% decline in home prices but offering no specifics:The media are having a wonderful time mis-reporting housing conditions, ooing and ahhing every time Robert Shiller shouts “Fire!” in the theater. This week he predicted (again) a “30% decline in housing prices.” All of them, Robert? Uniformly? Average? Do the math: if half the nation’s homes stay price-flat, the other half must fall 60%. Is that it? Or did you mean to say decline 30% in a few places? Some individual projects are off more than 60% right now (an FL condo or two... AZ and CA land), but the worst dozen mini-metro areas have yet to decline as much as 20%. In authentic data, OFHEO found that home prices mea

If you are my age or anywhere near it, you may remember Gilda Radner of SNL fame. Till this day, she is my all-time favorite.
She was the only reason, I ever started watching SNL. I loved her "Bawa Wawa" impersonation of Barbara Walters, and all of the skits she took part in, and my favorite was when she and Jane Curtain would do the news.
"Hello, My name is Rosana Dana, and I am a reporter," or something like that!
She had this favorite line of mine anyway where she said, ..."ya know, it's always somethin..have ya ever notice that....no matter what, in life, it's always somethin!"

To get to the New Museum of Contemporary Art on the Bowery from where I live in the Village I walk through the precious neighborhood of NoLita. I say "precious," because this neighborhood North of Little Italy is home to many attractive small boutiques and stylish bistros, and it feels like it could be bottled and sold for a large price. In fact, that's happening. The prices for several new condos in the neighborhood's attractive renovated Victorian-era buildings start in the six- and seven-million dollar range. And the proximity of the New Museum solidifies NoLita's stature as a hot neighborhood, with galleries, shoe boutiques and other art-friendly places popping up here and there.Walking along Prince or Spring toward the museum, I have several old and new, ecclesiastical and secular, pl

Bond Yields are something that sometimes causes the old hand investor to groan. All the patience, all the waiting all the time. Like most, I was a little perplexed Sunday by Ranger Sean Avery's play in front of Martin Brodeur. He screened him so badly that the NHL sent out an edict Monday which calls for a 2-minute penalty should anything again happen again as it did with Avery. But the strangest commentary on the whole ordeal — and it had a lot of people furious with Avery — came from WFAN's Tony Page."You know, if he got hit in the back of the head with the puck, what would we be talking about?" Page said shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday. "Maybe when he funeral is."Tony, please ... a little far fetched, don't you think?Still, good job by the NHL for acting quickly.
Coinciding with a manifesto from Country Life launched today, which urges people to 'learn to love GM crops', the Soil Association has published a report on the latest available research on GM crop yields over the last ten years. The yields of all major GM crop varieties in cultivation are lower than, or at best, equivalent to, yields from non-GM varieties.Peter Melchett, Soil Association policy director, said:"GM chemical companies constantly claim they have the answer to world hunger while selling products which have never led to overall increases in production, and which have sometimes decreased yields or even led to crop failures. As oil becomes scarcer and more expensive, we need to move away from oil dependent GM crops to producing food sustainably, using renewable energy,

Another defeat, I don't know whether to laugh or cry, as I'm feeling a rather strange mix of emotions at the moment. One thing I'm sure of is that we have a great bunch of players who gave it absolutely everything today and a manager who is not far away from assembling his third great side. Not many sides go to Old Trafford and put in such an excellent all round display, but quite a few get
From today’s Columbus Dispatch.MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va.—Calling students "trailer trash" for bad behavior is an offense, but in Marshall County, it merits only a one-day suspension, not two. That's the ruling from the Board of Education, which voted Tuesday to override an earlier penalty for John Marshall High School adviser Nicole Shipman. The board says Shipman should be reimbursed for the extra day she was off.Last month, Shipman handed a memo to some unruly students, warning that if they insisted on acting like trailer trash, that's how she would treat them. Her penalty was probably lightened due to the accuracy of her statement. Having been through Moundsville in the past, lets just say there’s a lot of pink flamingos there
I ran across this painting by Julian Alden Weir tonight and just fell in love with it. I sat back and stared at it for a long time. How unbelievably stunning! My artist mind then started asking the usual questions: Composition, unity, balance etc... The answer to these questions were mostly negative. The three trees smack in the middle of the painting, the orange ones to the side, the uneasy sloping horizon, these were all no-nos, so how did this painting work so well? Then it hit me. Colour! Light! Key! Yes! Some times a cigar is just a cigar and some times a painting is just about colour.

Now this is FUNNY! The Article: FBI probe: Lieberman campaign to blame for crashing own Web site - The Advocate A federal investigation has concluded that U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman's 2006 re-election campaign was to blame for the crash of its Web site the day before Connecticut's heated Aug. 8 Democratic primary. The FBI office in New Haven found no evidence supporting the Lieberman campaign's allegations that supporters of primary challenger Ned Lamont of Greenwich were to blame for the Web site crash. Lieberman, who was fighting for his political life against the anti-Iraq war candidate Lamont, implied that joe2006.com was hacked by Lamont supporters. "The server that hosted the joe2006.com Web site failed because it was overutilized and misconfig
There's an excellent article by Peter Gosselin in today's L.A. Times on the question of a mortgage bailout that would likely aid the undeserving. I've been predicting a federal bailout since the beginning of the year because although it may not be the economically 'fair' thing to do, the reality of politics tell a much different story (call me a cynic if you must). In fact, the U.S. has a long history of bailing out a few of the guilty when the costs of doing nothing punishes everyone, and this is something which many armchair bloggers and commentors have yet to appreciate. Stomping one's feet and yelling, "No Bailout!" simply isn't going to work unless it's accompanied by a rational discourse on the harm that would be caused (i.e., artifically high housing prices, higher borrowing costs
Sometimes being a Real Estate Trainer can be quite frustrating, not that different from a real estate professional or a buyer or seller. I haven't been able to edit either of my blogs' layout recently due to problems with Blogger Layout page. This has been going on for several weeks and AT LAST I have found out what was causing the problem .... many months ago I added a scrolling bar feature to the top of this blog (a rather nice banner showing a selection of my paintings) and apparently it was this that was preventing the Edit features on the Layout pages from working properly. The reason? ..... because I had not written the widget in Javascript!!!! Political BiographiesLast weekend, the top UK blogger Iain Dale published a list of his Top 75 Political Books.Political biographies often include a great deal about the preparation, delivery and impact of their subjects' speeches. A favourite audio book which I am just listening to yet again is A Different Drummer: My Thirty Years with Ronald Reagan by Michael Deaver. Throughout the 4 cassettes, there are constant references to Reagan's public speaking.Oratory obviously also features heavily in political fiction, as viewers of the superb drama The West Wing are aware; some of the most interesting and entertaining characters are the speechwriters.Public Speaking Tip #181: We may never wish to go into politics but we can still pick up some excellent public speaking pointers from polit

A major consequence of the complexity of today's mortgage business is the difficulty borrowers are having to renegotiate loans, in large part because it's not easy determining exactly who owns the mortgage, but also because loan servicers don't have the power to change loan terms. From a CNNMoney.com story:...it's much harder for troubled borrowers to get a deal that permanently lowers their mortgage payments. The Hope Now Alliance of mortgage lenders and servicers, including Citigroup (C, Fortune 500), Bank of America (BOA) and J.P. Morgan (JPM, Fortune 500), says it has kept over one million borrowers out of foreclosure since July. But only about one quarter of them - 278,000 - have actually had the terms of their mortgages modified.Faith Schwartz, Hope Now's Executive Director, says th

Great days those last two! Yesterday I had some friends back home visiting Barcelona and I spent one of the best days of the year so far. They are ex work colleagues, believe it or not, but they're fun, smart and outrageously delicious people. First we did a little bit of shopping and then we went eating in a fancy schmancy restaurant downtown in the Gothic quarters. We had to queue to get in, and my friends were so amazed by it. They never believed people would queue to go to a restaurant. Well, here you go! Then we had paella and sangria, and man, the party had begun. The cheered and good disposition I had overcame my habitual reservation and I was the most verbose, extrovert girl in the world. I told funny stories, I made silly faces and everybody was laughing along. My guess is it's th

PENGUINS 4CAPITALS 2 by Kozkoz@insightbb.comTo be fair, the Capitals scored four goals to the Penguins' two on Sunday afternoon. After the Caps took a 1-0 lead off a Brooks Laich deflection, the Pens were recipients of a fortunate bounce off Laich's stick to help Petr Sykora score the Pens' first goal. But the story of this game was the deciding score put in by Colombian soccer player... er... Calder Trophy candidate Nicklas Backstrom. The goal helped the Pens stay in the hunt for the Eastern Conference lead and might be the nail in the coffin for Washington's playoff hopes.Malkin had three assists to inch closer to Ovechkin (two assists) in the scoring race. Crosby scored his first goal since returning from injury to give the Pens the second period lead and was credited with Backstrom's
The Marimar soap opera is reminding me that people will do anything for money sometimes. It may be just in the movie or show, but in reality, it happens, too. As for such soap opera, I laugh and cry watching Marimar. It's a really a complex drama, I tell you. It also makes me laugh when I read some comments that are really aggressive and emotional. I was just reading that the director must have been paid by Angelika, too, because now Marimar is dying or may be dead. It was funny...LOL. People do crazy things for money, and money can buy people. I mean people can easily be bought off to do something awful, those under the table deals, underhanded. That is the sad reality in this world. Anyway, I thought I would bring that up since just the other day I was visiting my hometown's forum and wa

I've written enough blogs today, but I just had to write this one. I had the most wonderful day in which I didn't even come close to meeting my stated goal on the goals group. A wife awoke early one morning to the sounds of her husband angrily bangingaround pots and pans in the kitchens. When she goes downstairs, she sees that he is looking for something to eatbut, more importantly, is very upset about something."What's the problem, darling? Didn't your program work?""It worked. I wrote that code until the wee hours of the morning, and itworked!""Then what's the matter? Where there are a lot of bugs in it?""I took special pains to eliminate the bugs. It worked, and it workedperfectly!""So what's wrong?""I was so tired when I finished, I decided to take a little nap, just for afew minutes.""Did you not sleep well? Did you have a nightmare?" the concerned wifeinquired."No, I slept perfectly well ... with my head on the backspace key."
Sometimes i don't want to think about you,but i keep on thinking about you.Sometimes i don't want to depend on them,but i still can't live without them.Sometimes i don't want to listen to anybody,but i can't live without hearing a word from them.Sometimes i don't want to care about who pointing at me,but i need them to keep on my way.Sometimes i don't want to go high,but i have to climb high.Sometimes i want to give up my dreams,but i can't even think about that.Sometimes i want to leave all behind me,but i can't....Sometimes i want to run away from my life,but i still can't....Sometimes i don't want....,but i need, i have....Sometimes i want.....,but i can't....Sometimes...Sometimes...Sometimes...
You think life has shown you her best, treated you to her tastiest morsels and then she goes and surpasses herself yet again, good old life!
Yes, relaxing as I was at my computer, surfing the web so that I might not have to do all those other important things I really should be doing I [...]
One of the luxuries of vacation is time to read. I always make time to read, but on vacation, I am able to indulge my hobby with less guilt. The dust accumulating isn't mine, the phone doesn't ring, and in this case, there was not even the distraction of my laptop. My devotion to reading always begins in the car where my husband prefers to drive. I finished Midwives shortly before we reached

I’ve been quite busy lately with all the ongoing work I’ve been doing. That “lately” spans for over then 6 months and I am waiting for the little lagoon of peace for a while.
I am kind of person that leads a pretty busy life. A lot of assignments and engagements both on personal and [...]
...have guilty pleasures and this is one of 'em. Sounding a lot like early noughties Italian Moony - remember DB Boulevard's Point of View? Or even sounding like a Sophie Ellis-Bextor reject from 2 albums ago, this song is a right old earworm. Laura Critchley, for that is who it is, seems to have been floating around the chart margins and local newspapers forever. Honestly, there's only so many stories headed "Fame Calls for Laura" in the Carphone Warehouse Gazette a career can handle. And she could probably do without stories like the old baloney of catching 'ladies' man' Robbie William's eye (that's him on the left, and yes he HAS lost a lot of weight, must have a record coming out). The Liverpool lass, who supported the Sugababes last year, nah, me neither, seems to be getting playlist
Many of the drugs used today have their origins in naturopathy. The historical record is full of people chewing bark, boiling leaves, munching berries, or partaking of nature’s pharmacy in other ways. Many ailments were treated successfully, either because the plants possessed compounds with pharmacological activity, or because of the placebo effect. Pharmaceutical companies are [...]
This is me a few weeks ago:"What do you mean I need to take Chemistry before Physiology? It's bad enough I had to take Anatomy and Physiology separately you know. I've taken it before as a combined class. If you people hadn't lost my transcript you would know this. Not to mention I wouldn't have to be taking it again 18 years later. Whatever. This is stupid. I've been a nurse for 17 years, I can handle a little Physiology. Just get me the special permission from the instructor . . . he had me for Anatomy last semester. Remember? I got a 4.0, I don't need no stinking Chemistry. Thank you for doing it my way. Trust me, I know what I'm doing!"This is me now:Oh My God.I totally should have taken Chemistry first.
It is great when things just work out right, you know? We got a call yesterday from a couple who is interested in adopting a youngish female collie, as they lost a collie just last Christmas. Too sad. It’s hard to loose our best collie friends.
Anyway, these folks are up in Idaho. So [...]
Whether it be for web design, graphic design, print design, etc. I think everyone needs and can do with a little inspiration at some point, and there’s nothing wrong with it, is there? Normally I just like to look at the colors and shapes of other websites, since those are my main weak points.
I’ve composed [...]
In his recent LRB article, John Lanchester observes that "under Communism children from primary school upwards were taught the principles and practice of the system, and were thoroughly drilled in how it was supposed to work. There is nothing comparable to that in the capitalist world. The City is, in terms of its basic functioning, a far-off country of which we know little." What follows is a brilliantly lucid layman's explanation of what banks are doing with other people's money in the capitalist system, which leads up to an account of how Northern Rock is getting what it deserves: a bank run.John Lanchester, "Cityphilia", London Review of Books, 30.1 (3 January 2008), 9-12; [accessed 14 January 2008].
