So I’m at the office working on a new listing this morning when the first sign of Summer goes strolling past my window. In Seattle, when we think of Summer and Solstice, we think the Fremont Solstice Parade…which means naked bicyclists. Well, today they rode enmasse, at least several hundred of them, through [...]

Drawing inspiration from classic sports cars, the 2009 Pontiac Solstice coupe was created for drivers who appreciate both dramatic styling and balanced performance.Unveiled at the 2008 New York Auto Show as a GXP model, the Solstice coupe builds on the success of the convertible model while offering a greater range of all-season driving opportunities. For drivers still wanting an open-air experience, the coupe also features a removable roof panel, fully opening the cockpit to all of the sensations of the road."Today's Solstice is the top-selling roadster in the U.S., and we believe this new model has even broader appeal," said Jim Bunnell, Buick-Pontiac-GMC general manager."The coupe has all the design cues and pleasing performance of the original roadster, and is an all-season alternative
Several years after unleashing the Solstice roadster, Pontiac is following up with a hardtop fastback rework of the vehicle called the Solstice Coupe Concept.Inspired by the Solstice hardtop concept that wowed the crowds at the 2002 Detroit auto show and foreshadowed the roadster's arrival, the Solstice Coupe should arrive at dealerships in early 2009.With the Solstice designed as a convertible from the ground up, only slight changes had to be made to the chassis to convert it into a fixed-roof coupe. There's minimal weight gain to the tune of just 31 pounds, which is equivalent to the weight of the removable, Targa-style magnesium roof panel. A soft roof cover and home storage case for the panel will be options. The roof brackets and other mounting bits for the roof are made of aluminum, t

Before I begin, just wanna Wish you Guys a Very Merry Christmas...The Winter Solstice can be regarded the next most important festival in the Chinese Lunar Calendar, after the most famous one, the Lunar New Year. It falls usually around Dec 22, and this year, its fallen on a Saturday. Usually, the whole entire family will come home and have a meal together.I don't ever recall myself missing any of these dinners, as usually my mom will cook up a storm. As I have grown up eating all these food, it is generally to my taste. One of my mom's must have, must cook dish is this pot of Vegetables cooked in Nam Yue (fermented beancurd sauce). This is also the usual dish or pot she cooks up whenever the family goes vegetarian on Day one of the Chinese New Year. This dish has got lots of vegetables in it, usually it has their meanings, black moss, mushrooms, choi sum, red dates, tang hoon, muk yee, etc...) The whole pot is vegetarian, and I love that dish. This year our sister in law also

In keeping with the ecumenical philosophy of Asymmetric, I'd like to wish all of my atheist brothers and sisters a Happy Solstice. In praise of atheism:
1. One of the most important observations in my life is that, in everything from football to ideology in this case, competition makes people better. Just like atheists may behave better to avoid the charge that they're God-less hedonists, I'm conscious that I represent my religion to non-Catholics.
2. Many atheist criticisms of religion are valid.
3. If one were to base judgments of people on behavior instead of ideology, of course there are moral, according to the traditional Christian concept, atheists.
4. Atheism is a perfectly reasonable philosophy: If one were to assume that there only exists the physical, then there is no God. I'm not up on the latest science, but as to how the universe came about itself, I'm sure there's some sensible non-theistic explanation. After the original creation, atheistic explanations of
Today is the first day of winter, or Winter Solstice. The winter solstice is when, because of the earth’s tilt, the northern hemisphere is leaning farthest away from the sun. This causes the shortest day and the longest night.
Aside from the scientific facts about it the solstice has many spiritual ties wrapped up around it. The celebrations surrounding this date have ancient origins and is marked in many different cultures and religions. You could almost say it is a universal, that this time feels like birth and rebirth to most people.
Today it might be fun to learn a little about winter solstice and enjoy some activities. There are tons of lesson plans and ideas to enjoy. You are certain to find something interesting to explore or study today. And might I suggest my favorite book for today: Wild Child. I’ve shared before how much I love this book, and as the story is about Autumn going to bed and Winter waking up it is a great book for today.
Does anyone have any plans
I believe today, December 22, 2007 is the Winter Solstice. I think the Winter Solstice is at 6:08 PM to be exact…. I think the Winter Solstice has to do with the change of season, and time and the skies above.
Happy Winter Solstice and whichever winter holidays you celebrate.
Winter strike zones shrink as water temperatures drop. The colder the water for most species, the smaller the strike zone, making it even more important for an "in your face" presentation. Baitfish continually swim, with brief periods of stopping. The problem with most baitfish imitations is that they only look natural when they're moving. As soon as they're stopped, they sink to the bottom and lay on their sides…not so with a shrimp. In nature, shrimp sit on the bottom, bury in the mud or grass, and basically do nothing. They're not swimming most the time like most baitfish, but do drift with the current. Artificial shrimp, like those from DOA Lures can mimic this crustacean to the letter. This bait can stay in the strike zone as long as desired, giving fish an opportunity to eat it. Some new suspending baitfish imitations like the Rapala Twitchin' Rap and the MirrOlure MirrOdine and MirrOminnow can be worked slowly enough and "hover" in the water column for a simila
Heritage Ireland have set up a live webcam in Newgrange for the Winter Solstice event. Once a year, at the time of the winter solstice (shortest day of the year), the sun shines directly along the long passage into the chamber for about 17 minutes as it rises and illuminates the chamber floor. The alignment with the sun is too precise to have occurred by chance.
You can view the webcam from 08:30 on the 21st and 22nd of December.

Plus, the Galactic Centeris in this line up.The Galactic Center is the center of our galaxy, called the Milky Way, whichhas an estimated 2 billion stars in it. A solstice occurs twice a year, whenever Earth's axis tilts the most toward or away from the Sun, causing the Sun to be farthest north or south at noon. The name is derived from Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), because at the solstice, the Sun stands still in declination, that is, its movement north or south is minimal. The term solstice can also be used in a wider sense as the date (day) that such a passage happens. The solstices, together with the equinoxes, are related to the seasons. In some languages they are considered to start or separate the seasons; in others they are considered to be center points (in English, in the Northern hemisphere, for example, the period around the June solstice is known as midsummer, and Midsummer's Day is 24 June, about three days after the solstice itself).Paul Winter's Winter Solstice Celebration in New York: a world music celebration of the return of the light after winter. Great entertainment and special places to gather on a Cebrity cruise are a hallmark of Celebrity Cruises, and along that line they will offer a star studded line-up of nightclubs and lounges on the Celebrity Solstice, their newest ship scheduled to launch in December, 2008. Depending on what constitutes a fabulous evening at sea, from an intimate, enriching wine cellar to a vibrant club that offers a diffent dance theme each night, the 2,850-guest ship will offer guests some of the most stylish and varied public areas at sea. Of course one of the best will be the famed Martini Bar, now aboard the Century, and a showstopper for all cruisers who have sailed on the ship. Here is a sampling of what to expect when you cruyise on the Solstice.
My cell phone lies gasping on the desk in front of my keyboard as I relentlessly poke it every half minute to keep it from falling asleep, the desperate, “LOW BATTERY”, warning on the screen blaring at me, pleading with me to leave it alone. I am persistent, however; my finger pushes it towards that long, dark night so that it may become born again, virginal and fresh. The charger is both the resurrection and the life — in the world of Motorola tonight, there is little mercy for the sacrificial lamb.
The shadowy darkness of the living room seems to heighten awareness of the small sounds that are normally background to the hubbub of life but now punctuate the twilight even as my eyes lose their grip on specific details. Computers whirr and whoosh softly, their internal fans gently blowing a cooling draft past heated silicon. The clackity of my fingers on a keyboard like so many unchoreographed tap dances is met with a rhythmic shuuck-CLICK, shuuck-CLICK from acro
Here’s a cool Youtube video, made by autoblog, of the Pontiac Soltice concept car which was introduced at the 2007 SEMA Show. The youtube video also features an interview with Jim Hunter, GM Marketing Product Manager, which gives more info on the concept.

The Pontiac Solstice gets a purposeful restyle for this concept launched at the 2007 SEMA show in Las Vegas yesterday. Obvious weight savings are made by removing the luxuries of interior fittings, air conditioning and even the passenger side windscreen.Under the heat extracting grilles of the bonnet is the 2 litre turbo charged Ecotec engine of the standard car tweaked to create 290 horsepower. To keep the power in check Pontiac have fitted their optional Club Sport suspension package and Forged 19-inch wheels wrapped in Hoosier R6 racing tires. Performance figures are not given but with the weight and drag savings along with the power boost they should certainly be impressive for a budget convertible.Pontiac may be testing the water to see if there is a market for such a car or perhaps it is just designed to simply promote sales of the Solstice road car.>> Further details and wallpaper images of the Pontiac Solstice
Due to the rotation of our planet around the Sun, the position of the Sun in the sky changes, in the north-south axis, over the course of the year due to the changing orientation of the Earth's rotation axes with respect to the Sun. The dates of maximum tilt of the Earth's equator correspond to the summer and winter solstice, and the dates of zero tilt to the vernal and autumnal equinox. In the northern hemisphere, the Winter solstice is day of the year (near December 22) when the Sun is farthest south

Celebrity SolsticeSM, Celebrity Cruises newest cruise ship, has drawn from the woman’s touch for the design of it’s staterooms. Celebrity decided to pool the instincts of five cruisers, from different categories of cruiser, to add the finishing touches to its initial plans. They tapped into their thoughts to draw from various components of a cruise. A travel agent, a hotelier, someone considering a cruise, a frequent cruiser, and a cruise writer. Working with the world-renowned consulting firm, Synectics, the five engaged in a four month program designed to come up with the roomiest, enticing staterooms on the oceans.

A few people climbed up Moss Rock for sunset on the longest day of the year. Unfortunately it was overcast and raining, due to this year's crappy weather which doesn't show any signs of improving now that it's "summer." Believe it or not, these folks were actually howling like wolves when I took the photo. Perhaps it was a forlorn cry for the sun to pleeeeeeeease come back?
It’s hard to believe it’s June already. This past week has been a whirl wind. Last weekend was spent dropping off and picking up Angelgirl from the karate camp in the Pocanos. Angelgirl had her last day of school Monday (she got 8 awards!, including the highest academic award given in 5th grade - the Presidential award, which included a certificate, pin and letter signed by President Brush). She also had to take the first of several long multiple choice tests and turn in a 1000 word essay as part of the requirements for getting her Black Belt in karate (the final testing is in Sept. so there are several other things to do over the next few months). The black belt ceremony will be held early Dec.

It’s today. Happy first day of summer. Today is the Summer Solstice. Again, Wikipedia has a good page about the Solstices and Equinoxes.
I love the summer. I hate being cold. I do like the long dark nights of the winter, but this is summer, and I’m enjoying the long bright days. It’s been hot here, upper 90s, even up into the 100s, but I don’t mind. The dogs don’t like it very much, but I like the heat. I’m a hot weather woman. I love to get out of the shower and not dry my hair, just let it dry in the heat of the summer. And I love living in the desert. Dry heat is so much better than humid!
Fox Searchlight sent me an interesting graphic today about the upcoming film “Sunshine” from director Danny Boyle. He’s the director who brought you “Trainspotting” and “28 Days Later”.Like what “28 Weeks Later” director Eli Roth is doing with the creation of “Cell,” Boyle is also trying to lure audiences with the fear of real-world Armageddon. In “Sunshine,” astronauts are sent to reignite the dying sun 50 years in the future. The plot, though, doesn’t center around the sun’s death in the traditional sense.Instead, the sun has been “infected” with a “Q-ball,” which is a super-symmetric nucleus left over from the big bang that is disrupting normal matter. As I will be out of town on July 18 when Boyle comes to Chicago for a press day, I am efforting scheduling a phoner. The film opens on July 20.
The Midsummer Solstice (Day) is upon us tomorrow (21st June). Many people from all across the globe from the mainstream religious to people with nature beliefs - will celebrate this longest day and the also observe the sun at its full life-giving strength.
Midsummers day is primarily a Celtic fire festival, representing the middle of summer, and the shortening of the days on its journey towards winter. Midsummers day traditionally falls on June 23rd or 24th under the old calender, but it is now celebrated on June 21st.
This day was very important to our ancestors as ancient monuments and stone circles were built to align with the rise of the sun on the morning of this day. Stonehenge is the most famous monument on the Midsummer Solstice as tens of thousands of people attend the Stonehenge site every year. Many huge bonfires were lit on high hill-tops, hill-sides and across the rural countryside to celebrate this day and also cattle would be walked between fires to clense

Winter Solstice 2006
These are both small 6x8 in. oils. Every year for the last couple of years I've tried to paint on the winter solstice, my way of celebrating the day and the certainty of longer days to follow. I find the rhythms and cycles of nature comforting and fascinating. Winter into spring, spring into summer, summer into autumn. The ebb and flow of the tides, the waxing and waning of the moon, the movement of the zodiac, seedtime and harvest, blossom and fruit, birth and death and on and on it goes with nature. In contrast to the constant change of nature we can find the changeless eternal One. At Christmas time we ponder the intersecting of time and eternity, the uncreated and the created joined with the result being that all in nature and all of humanity becomes scared.
" In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness but the darkness has not understood it." John:14-5 May we understand His light this

Every year for the last couple of years I've painted on the Winter Solstice as a way to celebrate the day. I find a great deal of comfort and satisfaction in the rhythms and cycles of nature. Sunrise, sunset, winter into spring, spring into summer, summer into fall. The ebb and flow of tides, the migration of birds all are powerful reminders of the wisdom of creation. The winter solstice is a particular favorite of mine because it means that from here on out for the next six months the days will be getting longer. Imperceptibly so at first but by the equinox in March it will be very noticable and right around that time I'll be getting the itch to go out and poke around in the garden looking for signs of life LOL. What a great reminder at this time of year that darkness in our lives whether real or figurative only lasts for a season and that the light
General Motors hit a home run with the Pontiac Solstice-a small convertible with an attitude! This is a sporty little 4 cylinder car that handles like a high end sports car. Priced to sell with a 5 speed manual for around $20,000, with the automatic and fully loaded being around $27,000. This is a car that barely spends a night at any dealership as there is a waiting list. When they hit the ground, salemen are scurrying to call their prospects. General Motors finally got it right!Save on VW Auto Parts
The new year is rapidly approaching. Have you made resolutions? Are you going to?I've read a lot of business blogs lately that all mention 'down time' and the value of 'taking care of yourself'. This time of year is typically the time to go into that dark, silent place within and ponder things. It's hard to make time to do that, but in my opinion, we all need to rejuvinate this way. This is the winter solstice. Solstice means "standing still sun." For some really fascinating history on the solstice, go here.
Just two years after its well-hyped launch, the sun is setting fast over the Solstice. The New York Times is casting a gloomy eye toward the momentarily once-hot Pontiac roadster, reporting that the days of waiting lists and above-MSRP markups are over. As of July, year-to-date sales are down 19% compared to 2006; inventory levels sit at the five-month mark. Even worse, the Solstice is creating no lift for the Pontiac brand, which has seen its sales nose-dive 17%, almost twice as fast as GM’s as a whole. While we appreciate the homage to our very own Death Watch column, the NYT indulges in a bit of creative math in the same article when it touts the badge-engineered Saturn Sky as a fantastic success story-- even though its sales volumes are one-third below those of both the Solstice and the car that inspired it, the Mazda Miata. Still, it’s sad to see that GM’s brands are so dead that they now qualify for obituaries in the nation’s newspaper of record.
Another day, another leak. Pontiac's PR "accidentally" posted a preview of the NY Auto Show's debut on Pontiac's website, and it "accidentally" contains a picture of the Solstice coupe that's headed for production. The coupe will do away with the convertible's biggest flaw: being a convertible. Then again, it also means giving up the Solstice's biggest redeeming quality: when the top is down, it's a pleasant roadster. That said, it should be a hoot when set up with the 2.0-liter, 260-horse turbo. Camaro cannibalization? Of course not. We'll have pictures from the NY show in a few days. In the meantime, when are we going to stop these blatant attempts at media manipulation "leaks?"
