I love solitude. Even in my early childhood I liked to go off into another room away from my family and just be alone. Of course I wasn't really alone for I always had the companionship of the angels and spirits of the unseen world. I spent a lot of time back then just listening to them...and I still do so today. My office/meditation area is located back away from the outside noise of the road. Through the window I can look out at pine trees and some native shrubbery. It's in this very quiet setting that I do my writing and have my many connections with the spirit world. One thing though...when I'm writing I have to keep the window blinds closed or I end up sitting in raptured connection with the trees and getting no writing done. Ah...it can be so sweet.Sadly I know that so many people in
So when normal people are riding a bike, if they fall, they are likely to fall off the bike, right? Not me. I’m so awkward that I didn’t fall off the bike. I fell off of a curb while I was walking my bike across the street. I even scraped my knees. I felt very [...]
SolitudeAbout This Painting:Media: acrylicSize: 20 in X 20 in (50.8 cm X 50.8 cm)How to Purchase:send me an emailI've spent at least 2 weeks varnishing, framing and carting paintings around to galleries! Now it is time to get back to blogging and then to a regular painting schedule. This is yesterdays effort, and believe it or not you get out of shape when you stop for a couple of weeks, same as with exercising. I was exhausted after I finished this! LOL I did have a good time though using sea sponges as part of the painting process, and exploring some other acrylic painting techniques like scraping back layers. I still have some larger canvases to prepare for painting and use and then I think I will switch back to some smaller pieces. Stay tuned!

All of that is almost done and now I can settle down and get back to a regular painting schedule. I'm still enjoying working larger for now, but I suspect that as we get some warmer weather I will be getting outsdie to do some smaller studies and document the arival of spring. It's still February so I'm being very optimistic here LOL. Hope you enjoy this one, I'm planning on starting another this afternoon, and hope it will be ready for tomorows post.
Castle Solitude Arts has to be one of the best Pagan Graphics sites ever created. Lord James is a very well respected Artist in the Pagan Community. I have used his graphics for about 3 or 4 years to decorate my sites and as comment tags. Dave Holland on bass pulls me through the eye of the needle as I visit the heavens with Herbie and Vinnie Colaiuta. It’s so great to see Billie’s eyes sparkling as she listens to this piece with Duke by her side. We are all in agreement, that no performance could out classic her own, but Herbie manages to take it beyond the realm of classic into the realm of peace and distinct awareness of our need to contemplate our purpose without interference from others. Perfect solitude is a necessity. Wayne Shorter joins ont party on the shoutout tune, Both Sides Now. One friend of mine is fond of telling me that every difficult experience I undergo is "character building." No matter what the situation is or how upset I am, she never indulges me with pity and soft words. Her favorite saying is "Out of the hottest fires come the strongest metals." Unfortunately, she's right. Our maturity, our personalities and our attitudes are only tested and formed when we
Sometimes a Muslim poet, an Imam from many centuries ago can describe feelings of modern day humans, no wonder he, Imam Jalaluddin Rumi is one of the most popular read poets in the USA and the world over, despite belonging to the misunderstood religion of Islam.

While I usually don't post on Saturday, it somehow seems appropriate. After a holiday--any holiday for that matter--I always need a few days of solitude. I used to worry that my need to replenish was a bipolar symptom. Now I think it's just a part of who I am, and I'm quite comfortable with it. I particularly like the following quotes on solitude."I love people. I love my family, my children . . . but inside myself is a place where I live all alone and that's where you renew your springs that never dry up."--Pearl S. Buck"What I must do is all that concerns me, not what the people think. This rule, equally arduous in actual and intellectual life, may serve for the whole distinction between greatness and meanness. It is the harder, because you will always find those who think they know what is your duty better than you know it. It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great person is one who in the midst of the

This is a subject that is one of perception. Think if you will the last time you actually did not have any distractions from the radio or TV or the telephone and you just set still closed your eyes and let the world come to you. A great philosopher said “don’t do something, just sit and let the world come to you”. After all of these years I realize this person meant to let the world come to my inner self, or as Napoleon Hill puts it “your other self”. Your other self consist of those things and dreams that have been buried inside of you because of all the external input that we allow to come at us on a daily basis. The other self is the dreamer who has goals and a vivid imagination of how his or her future will be. The other self directs the subconscious by the words and physiology that we use to maximize our strengths and minimize our weaknesses. To know that the only limits we have are self imposed by us and our references. Be still and know that the inner voice will
Amanda's bus drops her off at the end of the driveway. The driver always honks to let me know she's arrived, and I can look out the window and see that she's coming in, or getting the mail. A couple of weeks ago, several minutes had gone by, and she hadn't come in, so I looked out again. She was in the hammock, book in hand. Twenty minutes later, she was gone. I looked out the back window
I am monarch of all I survey,My right there is none to dispute,From the center all round to the sea,I am lord of the fowl and the brute.O Solitude! where are the charmsThat sages have seen in thy face?Better dwell in the midst of alarmsThan reign in this horrible place.
I am out of humanity's reach,I must finish my journey alone,Never hear the sweet music of speech,--I start at the sound of my own.The beasts that roam over the plainMy form with indifference see; They are so unacquainted with man,Their tameness is shocking to me.
Society, Friendship, and Love,Divinely bestow'd upon man,Oh, had I the wings of a dove,How soon would I taste you again! My sorrows I then might assuageIn the ways of religion and truth,Might learn from the wisdom of age,And be cheer'd by the sallies of youth.
Ye winds that have made me your sport,Convey to this desolate shoreSome cordial endearing reportOf a land I shall visit no more!
My friends--do they now and then sendA wish or a thought after me?Oh, tell

Ella Wheeler Wilcox is one of America’s great writers. Ella was born in the village of Johnstown, Rock County, Wisconsin. Her parents were Marcus H. Wheeler, and Sarah Pratt Wheeler, with three older children they had followed, “Grandsir Pratt” from Vermont in 1849. Her prolific prose and poetry are a tour de force of optimism, [...]
`The man who goes alone can start today; but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready.’ Henry David Thoreau
Solitude is something most artists need more than other people.
It can be so hard as artist to balance this need of time alone with the needs of those around.
Yet it is in this silence that inspiration speaks and the most powerful moments and images arise.
I remember even as a child I craved time out. My sisters would sit and read by the fireplace when we stayed in our small country cottage in the south of New Zealand while I would head out to walk the local beach and soak in the joy of solitude.
I would come home renewed and ready again to be part of a big family.
The same thing happens today. I crave that time alone and need it to access my creative inspiration.
I still walk on the beach, but it is not the powerful solitude of the South of New Zealand but a Gold Coast beach in Australia
I particularly love winter’s days here as sometimes I wil

In my math class, I had just completed an entire group project on my own because not one other member bothered to contribute. I missed a deadline in my business class because of it, so the following week, when someone else stepped into the “group leader” role for a group project in International Business, I was relieved. By now, though, I am ready to crash my head straight through my monitor. It

`One can be instructed in society, one is inspired only in solitude.’ Goethe.
The inspiration of creativity is a moment between the artist and their creation.
The beautiful music notated, the words penned, the canvas painted may be shared by many, but the inspiration flows for the artist in solitude.
The craving of many artists for times of solitude is often difficult for those around them to understand.
I know that my own need for solitude started early. My family owned a small cottage by the sea. My sisters would enjoy the time at the cottage reading, sewing or knitting round the wood fire, but I would disappear for long walks by the sea.
Beaches in the south of New Zealand in my childhood were very solitary and the sheer beauty of this solitude called to me.
I loved these moments alone on what seemed such vast, wild beaches for the feeling of strength and peace their solitude created in me.
The power and inspiration of these moments gave strength for later images.

Anyone For Solitude?Hi all,It's a recurring theme in my work. Solitary figures, or tiny groups, framed against backgrounds awash with colour. It's not an intentional metaphor for something deeply significant, though the idea of using such images to evoke subtle subtexts might appeal to my intellectual vanity! In truth I simply enjoy the effects such figures create in my compositions. Our eyes are naturally drawn to figures. They tweak at our curiosity and the relationship they have with their surroundings is a theme always ripe for exploration. As to the canvas; this is the first time I've used a 'chunky' box panoramic canvas and I have to say they're absolutely brilliant. Perfect for those sweeping 'vistas' and wide, wide sunsets. They especially suit my love of multi-hued dawns and fiery sunsets. So for those of you who enjoy rendering the great outdoors in its entire wide screen, Technicolor glory, then this is the canvas for you!Catch you laterShirley
