My daughter plays on the 12 and under A team and they had a softball game today. They lost by a lot. The team they played was very well coached and very skilled. One thing I really like about the coaches is they really don’t care about winning. They just want to make sure the [...]

Ryan Clady demonstrated a little competitive fire this weekend. Saturday’s softball game, played by present and former Boise State football players was a Charity event. But, that didn’t stop Clady’s will to win.

Softball bats were at one time made chiefly of wood, but advances in technology have introduced materials such as aluminum, graphite, and composites. Each material has its positive and unique features.
Wood: Wood softball bats are very rare but are slowly regaining favor with softball enthusiasts who would rather hear a whack and not a ping [...]

Let me start off by saying the Thompson Fellowship Softball Tournament was a great success. Seeing people of all different ages playing together was a great reminder that we can all have a good time together in God’s glory. The morning started off early with people slowly rolling in, lacing up their cleats, and putting [...]
Sarah Tucholsky, a 5'2", .153 lifetime hitter for Western Oregon, hit her first-ever home run to move her team closer to its first appearance in the NCAA playoffs. But rounding first, she tore a ligament in her knee, leaving her unable to walk. The umpires ruled she would be credited with a single. Then, opposing first baseman Mallory Holtman, the conference all-time home run leader, asked the umpires if she could help Tucholsky complete her home run. The umpires consented.Holtman and teammate Liz Wallace picked up Tucholsky and carried her to each base, giggling as they wondered what the fans must be thinking. As they lowered Tucholsky to touch home, they saw fans weeping and cheering. Tucholsky's team won, 4-2. Source: Happynews.com
We had a double header last night (game 1 vs WarHawks and game 2 vs Rage) and came out undefeated (link). We won the first game 9-2 (had a chance to take it in 5 innings but couldn't push the last run across and then gave up 2 in the 6th) and turned around to play Rage (who were undefeated themselves). We went up 3-0 on Rage going into the 5th inning before they scored 2 to make it 3-2. We did nothing in the bottom half and Rage tied it up and took the lead in the top of the 6th (5-3). We went scoreless in the 6th and great defense in the 7th to hold the deficit at 2 runs.We scored 2 runs (on 2 outs) in the bottom of the 7th to extend the game and eventually scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th (1 out, runner on 2nd and a basehit to the left). To go 4 and 0 on the season.Smoke
Hillary Wins Big In O’Reilly Interview

Hillary Clinton appeared on The O’Reilly Factor last night, finally facing off with Bill O’Reilly in the No-Spin Zone. Judge Napolitano described it as the “toughest interview she’s ever had.”

Game 2 was tonight and we won 16-1 in 4 innings (15 run rule, game 1 was 13-3 in 5 and 10 run rule). The team we played wasn't that good, a lot of first timers, but they seemed to have fun and they (should) will get better.Probably won't be here for fall league or next year, but I'm glad my sis-n-law talked me into playing this year. I've missed the games and the people.

I don’t remember seeing Bill & Ted there, but I think I mastered time travel. Why would I attempt to relive my youth, when they weren’t my glory days? This was several years ago, but a friend of mine asked me if I was interested in joining an over-30 softball league. He said it’s all in fun and not competitive at all. Really? It’s not baseball but it’s still a competitive sport and it’s still a bunch of men. But they’re adults now and we’re all over 30. And I love playing baseball. How hard can softball be?Oh. My. God.Over 30 doesn’t mean old, or non-athletic, and it definitely doesn’t mean non-competitive. Some of these guys were huge and everyone was competitive. It started with me being picked last. Awesome! I’m not very tall but I can still play. I just don’t
One of the many great things about the metro Atlanta area is the access to a top notch, world class baseball organization the For those of us who are not quite Major League Baseball caliber, the metro Atlanta area offers many local baseball and softball outlets for all skill levels. With this blog, I am going to highlight some (not all) of these local opportunities. You will be able to click on images and hyperlinks to access more information. First up would be the City of Atlanta's Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs whose general page can be accessed by clicking this image We are fortunate to have a Department of Recreation within the larger Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs. Softball: Olympic Sport No Longer?By: Jay MoncliffSoftball has been around since a man named George Hancock first invented the game in 1887 in Chicago. It took over 100 years, but women’s fast pitch softball became an Olympic event in 1996.Fast pitch is different from the looping, relaxed pitch often used in recreational softball leagues. Fast pitch players must hit a ball traveling at about 70mph. This is slower than baseball, but certainly much faster than the meandering slow pitch game. However, since the pitcher’s mound and the home plate are much closer than in baseball, (40 feet versus 60 feet) the player must react to the pitch just as quickly. The first softball, a spur of the moment creation in that long-ago first game, was a boxing glove tied into the shape of a ball. Today’
In thirteen years playing baseball and three years coaching, I never experienced a fight on or off the field. Oh sure, we had our share of batters being hit by pitches and players becoming angry, but nothing serious. Had I ever experienced a fight of some sort, even a small one, I might have been better prepared for what happened that summer evening in 2005 - the evening I was introduced to Softball Fight Club.
The summer after my high school teaching and coaching career came to a close, I volunteered to be my dad’s assistant coach on a girl’s fast-pitch softball team for ages 15 to 18. Both of my sisters were on the team, and this was to be the last time they would be playing together before the oldest went off to college.
Naturally, thanks in large part to my awesome coaching ability, we were the best team in the league. However, there was one other elite team in the league that played in another town, a team we had yet to play. It was a team that physically scared the ot
By Jim MoyerThe dreaded Golf Swing is a common problem for Softball players. You know what I'm talking about, the player consistently misses below the ball by four or five inches. You have talked to them about taking their hands straight to the ball and about swinging level, yet time after time they are underneath the ball. You finally decide the girl is a complete moron and is unable to process the valuable information you are giving her or you determine that she must enjoy bringing you pain and misery.Your Hitter is probably into the pain and misery he/she is causing you, but on the outside chance that's it's just a bad batting habit you should try this Hands to the Ball drill.During your next batting practice, place your hitting tee directly behind home plate (touching the back corner of the plate) and pull the tee up to about mid-thigh. Now when the girl swings she must take her hands and bat over the tee without hitting the tee. Now break out the pitching machine and start thro
As I was trying to think of a topic to write this blog about I turned to my 5-year-old son for help. During a very intense game of Nemo Memory (he was playing with my husband), I asked him what his favorite thing about going to Hobgood Park and watching my husband or father in law play softball was, he said “playing in the dirt and finding ants”. Aside from the finding ants I can remember being his age and going to the local ballpark and watching my Mom and Dad play softball. It always seemed like a contest between my brother and I as to who could get the dirtiest. Now it’s my son’s turn to watch his Dad and Grandfather play ball and be so proud of the very few plays he sees between the playing in the dirt and finding ants. My husband plays on one league called “What” they play Friday nights at Kennworth Park and every now and then he’ll fill in on the “Grace ToThe Nations” team on Wednesdays, my father in law which we affecti

With the premiere of The Simpson’s Movie just around the corner, the San Jose Mercury News decided to take a look at the show’s history of brining in athlete guest stars. Of course the most famous of all the athlete episodes is “Homer at the Bat”, which features appearances by Ken Griffey Jr., Steve Sax, Mike Soscia, Ozzie Smith, Jose Canseco, Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, Daryl Strawberry and Don Mattingly.
The article is worth reading, if only for producer Al Jean’s revelation that only one of the 46 athletes who have appeared on the show have been difficult to work with. Can you guess who it is?
On the DVD commentary for the episode, Jean said that all the athletes were wonderful to deal with except for one “whose name rhymes with Manseco.”
Reached for this story, Canseco was in no mood to wax nostalgic. “That was 100 years ago,” he said. The phone line disconnected within seconds of the interview and subsequent calls were not

So we admit that the writing on The Sports Flow may have been a little dry over the weekend but it's not because we are just laying around and watching TV. We've (along with fellow bloggers twins15 and Petey) been busy with the 2007 McQuade Softball Tournament - along with 415+ other teams as well.If you click the link above and check out some of the statistics and info I think you might be surprised/impressed. A lot of people don't know this but the USA's largest slowpitch softball tourney is held in Bismarck, ND....which is pretty sweet. So we've been having a good time and unfortunately ran into a few good teams Saturday and are now out of the tournament but are already looking forward to next year.I have a few ideas for posts so don't worry, we just need to get back into the swing of things next week and if you have any standout ideas for articles we'd love to hear them. But for now just check out the blogroll until later tonight.
The Tennessee Lady Vols started the NCAA tournament in high fashion tonight, downing an overmatched Furman squad 8-0 in 6 innings (mercy rule) behind the stellar pitching of Ace Monica Abbot.Abbot (43-2) had 13 strike outs versus ZERO hits in leading the Lady Vols past the 1st round. Tennessee, seeded 5th, will face North Carolina next in Knoxville. (Abbot and Rhodes combined on the perfect game)Tennessee is ranked 1st in one major poll and 2nd in the other, is now 55-5 on the season. How in the world are they seeded 5th? You would think at least some of those other 4 seeds would be better (according to the seedings) yet only Oklahoma is ahead of them in 1 poll and none have the record that the Lady Vols have.I would hate to see the NCAA Men's Basketball tourey seeded by the same people that did this.
We've heard of Sports Information Departments doing some unusual things in an effort to familiarize their fans with the players on their sports teams, but the College of Southern Idaho's SID has gone a wee bit too far (or is it not far enough?) in my book.
In case you can't read that, it says "Shaven or Unshaven". What else could this possibly be referring to? Even more amazing is that several

Wow. I found this on Youtube and this is from one of my favorite Simpsons' episode. I think is from 1990 or so and the episode is called "Homer at Bat". The Simpsons are my one of favorite shows, and it being the season of baseball - I decided to see what I could come up with. This video was done by Sol Rosenburg, and I love what he did with the song and some of the images from the particular episode.
