This is a 2001 Chicago Public Radio Interview with Barack Obama. Obama discusses the best way to bring about a Redistribution of Wealth. This is a partial transcription of the 2001 Obama interview. I left out Obama's um's and ah's for the sake of reader sanity:"If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court. The real 'socialists' here. The George W. Bush administration handed 125 billion dollars to nine of Wall Street's richest banks, but this will do little to help the economy that is crumbling around ordinary U.S. citizens, independent experts and activists say."There is no way a modern economy can function without good roads, telecommunication, rail transport and an educated labour force," Allan Men
Today, America embraced socialism. Sort of, and only temporarily, or so they say. Taking a page directly from Mussolini’s playbook, George Bush and Henry Paulson forced nine of the country’s largest private banks to accept a partial nationalization last night and will move to nationalize many smaller banks later in the week.
Interview with Professor Prabhat Patnaik:
But what the [financial] crisis [in the world's capital markets] does is to undermine the ideology of neo-liberalism which gives the Left a chance to intensify its struggle against neo-liberalism. And in so far as the recession that is arising will hurt not just the workers and peasants but even sections of the middle classes which have hitherto been bene
Rep. Jeb Hensarling has proposed a new free-market based plan. This story, reported by my CNSNews.com colleague Josiah Ryan this morning, is welcome news to those of us who feel that socialist command economics are are not the answer. The plan would, in short, allow floundering financial institutions to purchase insurance on their troubled mortgage-backed [...]
Reflections of Fidel:
I did not want to write a third consecutive reflection, but I can not leave this until Monday.
There is one accurate response to Bush’s "democratic capitalism:" Chavez’ democratic socialism. There couldn’t be a more accurate way to express the great contradiction that exists between North and South in our hemisphere, between the ideas of Bolívar and those of Monroe
Apparently, the people of the US have decided that socialism, rather than capitalism is the way to go. The fact that it spells doom for what used to be the greatest nation on earth doesn't seem to worry anyone except a few of us old "give me liberty or give me death" types... and there's only a handful of us left.
Whenever I get into arguments with people on the Left regarding capitalism and free markets, I give them such a thrashing that they eventually get backed into a corner. When their weak arguments have nowhere else to turn, they attempt to change the subject by asserting that all capitalism's progress is going to cause global warming; then I know I have won the debate.Nevertheless, I often get into
Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka, was about to finish her first year of college. I love the pretense behind this meeting announcement. As if eco-socialism, social ecology or even feminist ecology were NEW only to be recently discovered by the Left in Toronto. A new synthesis is emerging, combining two great radical forces -- the 'red' movements that seek to free labor and bring down capitalism, and the 'green' movements that seek to mend our relationship with nature. I read Joe Klein's article on Barack Obama's "patriotism problem" and heard Michael Medved interview Eric Liu, the writer of a short book on progressive patriotism. Klein and Liu make the case that liberals can be as patriotic as conservatives, which is fine. What's laughable is their insistence that progressives are the truer patriots. Their reasoning:
1. True patriots want what's best for their country and their fellow Americans and support policies that help Americans as a whole instead of just oneself or one group. Additionally, true patriots show appreciation for what the government has given them.
2. Government is good. Leftist policies help Americans, offering opportunities that Americans wouldn't otherwise have. Wealthy people disproportionately benefit from government (have more

~Snooper~The basic tenet of Islam is that there are no other gods other than allah and if no one accepts that or believes that, than it is an automatic death penalty or slavery. The slavery part comes in when you agree to pay tribute to Islam via money. You can buy your life but will be a slave to Islam.Where do I sign up?So, knowing the basic tenet of Islam, how does Islam fit into the United States Constitution in regards to "freedom of religion" clause? Right off the bat, I would say that it does not fit into the United States Constitution at all. If Islam was more tolerant as some say that it is, there would be no problems. An individual which is a citizen of the United States can "practice" any religion they so choose to "practice". That is part of our Bill Of Rights. What is n

Obama’s speech today, was a transparent attempt to pander to white guilt. Trying to deflect his massive problem with his 20 year long close association with the David Duke of the “black community”, Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

A guy named Durate made a comment to my post on Obama, wondering why so many people were down on socialism. He sees socialism as much more democratic than other economic and political systems.Of course, socialism in its most pure form, communism, is a totally discredited economic and political theory except in the minds of Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez and countless tenured professors at American universities. But there is still a strong movement to make America more socialist, like in many European nations, and to make European Socialism more socialist. The idea of socialism is that the government knows best how to manage our lives. The notion is quite un-American.Throughout history the means of production have been controlled by a small ruling caste—whether it is priests, kings or the bourge
It is just sickening how people who have no concept of economics continue to applaud Hugo Chavez and his socialist policies. Newsflash: Socialism does not work; it never has. Socialism reduces all incentives for people to work, and as a result, the supply of consumer goods is often the first to go. Starvation follows because the people have no incentive to work long agonizing hours on a farm if...

This is a must read. I printed the following article from the New Left Review and read it while in bed (yes, I’m still sick but I think this viral infection is about to leave my body).
The paper explores the diminishing stature of the written media and the transition to a more audio-visual oriented culture as a much ignored factor in the present crisis facing the Left. The writer - Regis Debray - is a French intellectual, book writer, professor and journalist.
On a semi-related note, also check out MediaShift for an article on why we love (and hate) print publications. Debray’s paper can be read below in full:

One of the initial goals that I had when I started this blog was to spur debate within the notes or the discussion board. Although there hasn’t been much participation in the discussion board, my article 5 Reasons Why You Should Homeschool, has led to considerable discussion and emails. Almost all of these responses have been encouraging with people agreeing with at least some of my points. One notable point of dissent from contributor Obsteve was left on the discussion board and later copied unedited to the blog here. Some of obsteve’s arguments have been answered by other noters, but I still owe him responses as promised. I intend to get to those soon, but this entry is actually about a different reason to homeshool that wasn’t included in my original article.
The forgotten reason is actually the primary reason why I make this choice: as a libertarian individualist, I find socialism in any form to be undesirable and even immoral. Although I’m aware o

Socialism is a system that depends on all individuals agreeing to work towards the common good of its community. This system is only possible if everyone cooperates willingly. Unfortunately for you there are individuals, like me, who disagree to work towards the good of the community. I wish to work to further my own selfish desires.
There are only a couple of options for socialism to work. One is to form a small commune of individuals who agree with socialism, and all work towards the good of one another without interfering with the rest of society. The other option is to create a government system that forces individuals to comply with your philosophy.
Any system, such as this, would have to force every individual to work for the good of everyone else. It is your individual choice if you wish to live your life for others, this is a right that is only taken away by force.
Those of you who hold socialism as your own personal credo, you are not a concern. But those of you who use the g
President Bush’s Faith-Based Initiative has reached the Supreme Court. As reported in the Christian Science Monitor:
President Bush’s faith-based initiative is a signature program of his administration. But not all Americans share the president’s belief that the government should work in close partnership with religious organizations willing to perform nonreligious public services, like running homeless shelters or drug counseling programs.
Wednesday, the US Supreme Court takes up a case that examines to what extent those opponents have legal standing to file federal lawsuits alleging that the White House’s faith-based initiative amounts to unconstitutional entanglement of church and state.
The case stems from a 2002 lawsuit filed by a Wisconsin-based group called the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Members of the group filed the suit as taxpayers who objected to having their tax money used to support religion.
Although the lawsuit brings up important issues of
Ray has a great post on The New Liberty blog. He discuses George Bernard Shaw’s views on socialism and how to covertly convert people to the socialist’s cause.
"The word socialism was not to be used. Instead, they would speak of benefits for the people such as welfare, medical care, higher wages, and better working conditions.†It's unmistakable that similar methods are used in American politics today that mimic the Fabian method of remolding the socio-economic landscape.
This is exactly what is ruining America today. People are so brainwashed by propaganda that they don’t even realize they are advocating socialist solutions. The result is spiraling costs, especially for health care, and the loss of individual freedom. It is the driving force behind the ever increasing size of government and out of control taxation and spending. The only government program that would successfully combat these problems would be a program of el
