      Obama's Comments on Social Security
"Let me be clear, privatizing Social Security was a bad idea when George W. Bush proposed it, it's a bad idea today...That's why I stood up against this plan in the Senate and that's why I won't stand for it as president," says Obama. So what is your plan for my future Barry? You want me to keep it in the current IOU fund that exists where there is no money for me?!?! You are oblivious to the f

If Social Security Says You Are Disabled, Is That "The End"?
By Rick LondonIn most of the 1980's, I was living in Washington, D.C., working in corporate America, waking up at 6 am, rushing with my coffee while I brushed my teeth and put on my pinstripe suit and yellow power tie, and drove to work, arriving before rush hour. Only to to experience panic and anxiety until daybreak. A coronary, a burst appendicitis, a dysfunctional vagus nerve (requiring an implant) and a myriad of other health problems, put me out to pasture, and, doctors said I would not be working again. I felt my life had come to an end. Technically, I was disabled. I did not buy the term. I bought a cheap computer and learned all I could about the Internet. I learned how to be a cartoonist and writer. I learned how to outsource and license the manufacturing of my image product

Baby Boomers’ Addiction & Alcoholism May Take Down Medicare & Social Security Programs
if the actual addiction and alcoholism rates of the retiring baby-boomers is significantly higher that our current estimate of those rates, then the overall medical and related costs to be borne by the Medicare and Social Security Programs could be substantially higher than our current predictions. This, in addition to the already high projected [...]

Little Known Social Security Benefits for Retirement

Social Security Benefits: Apparently We Have Nothing To Worry About
I read an interesting article yesterday from MarketWatch that said all the talk about the failing Social Security System, and how it is going to soon run out of money is completely overblown. According to the author, Dr. Irwin Keller, the social security system may never run out of money, let alone run out of it in the near future. He claims that people are reading only the summary page from the annual report issued by Social Security’s board of trustees, which offers a warning of the possibility of a shortage in funds, and that if people read further they would see that the projections used in predicting the fund shortage scenario are drastically conservative. Using growth projections that are more historically consistent, the fund would actually never run out of money. This is an inte

      Protest against Social Security Reform
The ruling part AKP wants to raise the retirement age to 65 while the life expectancy in Turkey is about 67 years. It means that most of the workers will die before being retired. The reform proposed by the government has been harshly criticised by labor leaders and opposition parties. Turkish unions launched a protest meeting in Istanbul against the sought social security and general health insurance bill. Here are the photos that I have taken."Real Turkiye"

      Social Security Reconsideration (Step 2)
As I have previously written, I was denied for the initial claim for Social Security Disability (SSDI), benefits on December 7th, 2007. I retained the services of an attorney on December 17th, 2007. She did not complete my Request for Benefits, or file for Reconsideration until January 24th, 2008. The Social Security office informed me that they have until May 24th, 2008 to proclaim the status of my case. Q: What do you call 10,000 lawyers at the bottom of the sea? A: A good start. She wasted nearly 6 weeks of my time and is pressing my sanity. The hook is that an attorney only gets a certain percentage of your winnings for compensation, which is 25% in my case. What the layperson does not know is that the longer the attorney prolongs the case, the more she profits. I'm lost in

Social Security and the 10th Amendment

      Guarding Your Social Security Number
Requests for Social Security numbers are now so commonplace that many people assume they have no choice. But that’s actually not true -- although convincing companies of that can be a challenge. In fact, it’s a bad idea to hand out your Social Security number. If someone steals it, they can open new accounts in your name, charge bills to you, and you might not find out for months or years. Your employer needs your Social Security number to pay you, and your bank needs it to comply with federal law, but very few other places actually need it. Your credit card company does not. Neither does your doctor (unless you're on Medicare or Medicaid), and neither does the phone company. In the past few years, computers with sensitive personal data including Social Security numbers have been lost by or stolen from Home Depot, Citigroup, Gap, Hartford Financial Services, AT&T, Pfizer, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and many more organizations. And in 2005 (the most recent year fo

Do I Qualify for Social Security Disability Benefits?
Since Social Security is a government-subsidized program, the answer to this question is never simple. Basically, Social Security disability benefits are intended for those who cannot work, or at least cannot work enough to get by each month. If left to that definition, of course, many more people would be receiving Social Security disability benefits. The part that prevents some from being approved is that Social Security has what they call “the listing,” which is simply a list on paper of the medical problems that qualify and their severity. It is the government’s way of categorizing something that is very difficult to categorize. This presents two hurdles to anyone interested in receiving Social Security benefits. First, you have to present evidence that you meet the listings; or that you cannot work, or at least enough to support yourself. This evidence is usually in the form of medical records. The problem with this is that many people cannot afford t

ALERT - Social Security, IRS Refund Scam
All scam artists are scum but this one is really low. Some scams take advantage of greedy people or people who think they are looking to rip someone else off. This scam targets senior citizens, the sad part about this scam is the victims get warned before they get ripped off but they ignore the warning! Guess they may fall into the greedy category after all but I still think this one is low. Here is how it works: According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), someone approaches an elderly citizen and asks if they have filed to get the tax back on their Social Security benefits. They tell the victim (the Social Security beneficiary) to get a 1099 from Social Security so that they can file the income tax refund for the beneficiary. The beneficiary requests the last 3 years 1099 statements showing their Social Security Benefit. The SSA has no choice except to give them the information because it gives them the total payments they have received. (here comes the warning

How to Appeal a Social Security Disability Denial
If an individual applies for Social Security disability insurance and is denied there is an appeals process they can through in order for reconsideration of their application. If an individual wishes to appeal the Social Security Administration's decision regarding their application for disability insurance they can do so, however they must make their request in writing within 60 days from the date they received Social Security's denial letter. The Social Security Administration assumes that the individual receives their letter five days after the date posted on the letter, unless an individual can show them they received it later. There are generally three or four levels of appeals; the first being reconsideration, second is a hearing by and administrative law judge, third is a review by appeals council and lastly is a federal court review. When the Social Security Administration sends an individual their letter about their decision on their claim they give them instructions on how t

CAUTION: STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS RANT BELOW>>>I HAVE HAD IT !!!The Senate reached a "compromise" on illegal immigration yesterday.Let me re-phrase that for you...The Senate Republicans got rolled by Teddy Kennedy and agreed to a bill granting AMNESTY to lawbreakers !!!Read about it here; The plan, which was still being finalized, allows the estimated 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the United States to come forward and receive probationary statusSo...people who are waiting in their home countries for YEARS...playing by the rules get shafted so the Senators can be seen as "doing something" on illegal immigration??? Senators, the only thing worse than doing nothing is doing something so mind-numblingly stupid and crafting a bill that effectively rewards law-breaking.This bill is so eerily similar to the 1986 bill that it is scary...Take a look at what Ed Meese (Reagan's Attorney General) has to say about the 1986 Amnesty Bill here;President Reagan set out to correct the loss
