I had a great time as a guest on Soapbox Radio today, and I really appreciate all of the people who tuned into the live show and participated in the online chat room. It's always a little uncomfortable to spend an hour talking about myself, but I think Nicole (Soapbox Mom) did a great job conducting the interview. Thanks Nicole! If you missed the show, I have the podcast recording to share with y

I'm still in finals hell here, so I'm bringing in some guest bloggers for the rest of this week to keep this place hoppin'. Show them some love, OK?I'll be back just in time for the St. Patrick's Day revelry, because you know I can't resist a party. Especially a green beer swillin' (ok, maybe green jello shots instead), shamrock showing, you bet your lucky charms kind of party.Oh wait - that was college. It'll be a tame St. Patrick's Day parade with the kids kind of day, I guess.
Okay, guys. I'm taking a break from my pet food information postings to write about a current issue that has me both sickened and outraged. Most of you are probably familiar with Atlanta Falcon's player, Michael Vick, who was indicted on charges of interstate commerce with intent to fight dogs, running an illegal dog fighting ring, and more. He has, of course, lied and denied all of this, blaming his family for taking advantage of him. Oh please. Others involved have talked, and the details listed in the indictment are gruesome. Dogs were cruely mistreated to make them mean and want to fight. Losing dogs, or dogs that didn't show enough "fighting spirit" were executed. Yes, executed. They were shot, hung, thrown from buildings, strangled, electrocuted, or body slammed against the ground unt
Thanks to Luke for pointing me to http://marriedtothesea.com for this comic. This captures well my thoughts on fwd's, spam, etc. There is, of course, a serious side to this. A number of changes to MSN Soapbox just occured, most notably that Soapbox is no longer a stand-alone site, but has become a tab at http://next.video.msn.com. (more…)
MSN, MSN Video, MSN Video V4, SoapboxShare This
Here on the Windows Experience Blog, I use Soapbox on MSN Video to embed and share all my videos for my blog posts. Tonight, the Soapbox and MSN Video Team has launched MSN Video V4 with new features to Soapbox worth taking note of:
Enhanced Copyright violation. Soapbox users will now be explicated told one of their videos has been flagged for copyright violation versus previously the video would simply not show up without any sort of message.
Improved encoding time. This is a HUGE plus for me because it lets me get videos uploaded faster when writing a blog post. Previously, it took quite a bit of time to get a video completely uploaded to be embedded into a blog post.
New Mini-Showcase. The Mini-Showcase is a new area on the landing page where the video team editors can show you what's hot on the site. I'm hoping to get one of my videos flagged for the Mini-Showcase sometime in the next few months.
There are a few more notable changes to take into account. When going to soapb
OK, I'm going to fly my "feminist" flag as well as my "musician" flag here. It's another edition of "Sudie on the soapbox" so grab a beer and some nachos...sit a spell...and listen to me rant.I do loves me some Brian Setzer Orchestra. I do indeed. I think BSO is one of the best things going in the music industry...it brings jazz to the people in a fun and non-stuffy way. It really helps that Brian Setzer is a really good musician and has this uncanny knack for arranging and bringing good musicans together. He's a showman through and through. Plus, I like guys with tattoos up and down their arms. However, as great a musician/arranger as he is, I have some problems. Watch the clip first. (Yes, I'm reposting it because it's my blog and my rules so BITE me if you don't like it.)Now...this band, in terms of big bands, KICKS IT. All the musicians know what they're doing and they have a lot of spirit and fire. However, you can't tell me that there are women musicians out there
Continuing to keep us updated in the world of soccer, here once again is Blown Coverage guest author Ryan Knapp from the always entertaining Lets go Buff-a-lo.This week in soccer is aptly titled the "soapbox" edition for good reason. America right now is super-saturated on the entire David Beckham issue and I don't want to beat an already dead horse. In my mind, the fact that he is coming to America has brought up a much larger issue. Just what is the position of 'football' in America? . And more importantly, Does soccer here have a chance? Give me a minute here to explain. Over the last two months every journalist from sea to shining sea has been tossing in his two cents on the Beckham issue. Thats all fine and great. However, in reality, all of these reporters are really taking sides on the bigger issue, which is 'Am I going to support soccer in America, or no?' Some journalists have bravely come out and said that they support 'the beautiful game' and I applaud them. You are i

What’s the best way to kill your incredibly popular service? Is it:

It seems that I can’t stop hearing about Audible Magic. First they were trying to filter P2P networks, in what may or may not be a violation of wiretap laws, and now every video sharing site that’s ever heard the word “copyright” is hoping this software will keep the big bad wolves off their back. But if you throw those dogs a bone, they’re only going to keep coming back for more and more. But this post isn’t about bashing old, failing business models. Instead, it’s about keeping those with them from talking new businesses into killing themselves.

With the relaunch of Soapbox on MSN Video Beta, the embedded player has also been updated.
Some of the improvements to the new player:
Cleaner design, consistent with the new Soapbox and MSN Video Beta Inline Players.
Larger default Player size. 432x364
Share Playlist Option
20 Videos in Playlist
Related Videos play in player.
With these improvements, has come a feature change that needs to be noted. In the past, the player window was always fixed at a 4x3 ratio. The window size was dictated by the height, defined in the embed code. No matter what width you defined in the code, the player window would always be fixed in design and aspect ratio.
With this new Player, the resizing characteristics are similiar to Windows Media Player. When you resize Windows Media Player, the width of the player and controls will stretch, but the video window is always fixed at the correct aspect ratio. This has caused a few people some grief with players that were
The Soapbox team blog has announced the return of MSN Soapbox to public beta after having closed back in March.
The relaunch sees several backend changes, notably around performance and encoding. What is significant is that Soapbox is also adding CopySense technology from Audible Magic to automatically filter our copyright content. On top of this, content owners will be given access to automated tools allowing them to find and remove their copyrighted content. MSN Soapbox currently features a new UI that was launched at the end of April and brought the service much closer to MSN Video and the other MSN Entertainment websites.
While this is a move that will please the content owners and not the users, it'll be interesting to see how this and the YouTube lawsuit affects Sopabox's long term popularity. (YouTube is also integrating Audible Magic technology.)
Still to come is the new video site from NBC Universal, News Corp, AOL(link), Microsoft&nb
Soapbox on MSN Video At last it is open for public Oh yes at first it was by invitation but now it was open , I was from the like ones who had an invitation and I tested and I even found a bug and informed the Soap Box team about It is not advanced yet like YouTube and its features ,but it is unique ,I like it , first I like the GUI , second it takes a less time I think from You Tube in uploading and processing ,especailly processing the big files The only thing bad in it that you don't have yet this Vlog feature or channel feature like You Tube ,plus they got censorship ,at least that what happened to me when I tried to upload the hanging of Saddam Hussein Movie for two twice it was removed Anyhow ,I wish you to join it Technorati tags: Soapbox, YouTube, Video, Vlog, IT, Internet del.icio.us tags: Soapbox, YouTube, Video, Vlog, IT, Internet

En general tiene buena pinta y carga con rapidez. El diseño del sitio me recuerda un poco a Dailymotion.

This is ridiculous. When the fuck is our government going to stop telling us who to love and how to love them? Once again, those that are in power are going to knock on the head the ACT’s bill that will allow same sex unions partnerships. The following has me totally dumbfounded:
Mr Ruddock maintained the proposed legislation opened the door to bigamy and contradicted the Marriage Act’s definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman.
Ok, two things I would like explained to me please Mr Ruddock. Firstly, how the fuck can making same sex ‘partnerships’ legal “open the door” to bigamy? I mean surely - and I may be wrong seeing as how I haven’t read the bill personally - if you are in a legally recognised same sex partnership, you CAN’T get married. The other thing is, if you were in a ssp, something that so many have been fighting for, then WHY would you want to get married to another person? While on the subject of bigamy, if th

Today the MSN Soapbox Team have launched a new activity feature that will alow you to watch Soapbox videos on Windows Live Messenger in real-time with your friends. Which is much nicer than just sending them a link! This is how it works:
If at any time you would like to watch a video with one of your Messenger contacts, just click on the “share” tab under a Soapbox Video and select “IM this video.”
Which then if you are already signed into Messenger, will prompt you to choose which contact you would like to watch the video with. If you are not signed in, you will be prompted to do so.
Then after you have choosen the contact, and once the person has accepted your invitation - boom the Messenger Activity Window will launch, with the player in full view. You can now watch the video with your friends and chat about it, all at the same time.
Happy video sharing!

My Political Soapbox RantI've taken a second job doing data entry because I'm truly horrible with money and I love love love spending it so I need to make some more of it. I've only been there for about two weeks now, and I can't stand it because it's a sweatshop, but it's given me a lot of insights into human behavior and the evil of politics.I'm not sure if the company (whose name I can never remember because it's just a bunch of initials and I'm not sure it actually stands for anything) is actually owned by the RNC, but since I've started all the data that's been entered has been campaign donations. Various Republican party members, and sometimes the party itself, have sent out these massive mailings to people across America requesting more money to help fight the Democrats. My major in college was International Relations, which was chosen because, as an interdisciplinary major, I had to take classes in Econ, Poli Sci and History, thereby eliminating the need to choose j
