      Diving & Snorkeling Krabi
Like Phang-nga, Krabi offers a great opportunity for diving due to its numerous natural marine resources including over a hundred offshore islands. Dive shops around Rai Le and Ao Nang provide dive trips as well as rent diving and snorkeling gear such as mask/snorkel/fin at the rate of 150 baht/ set/ day (with a deposit of 500 baht). The advantage of diving from Ao Nang is the nearby sites in the P

Snorkeling in Phi Phi Island Bay
Weather on Phuket and Phi Phi has stayed hot, sunny and calm since beginning ofthe month, allowing for great days on the beaches both destinations have tooffer. As it is officially "low season" even Patong Beach is not crowded and it is possible to pick the best spot for yourself.Today, however, I decided to revisit Phi Phi and brought back a great videofeeding the reef fish in Phi Phi bay. A little bit shaky, but it gives a goodfeel what Phi Phi is all about: relaxation, a great time and some physicalexercise at the same time. That snorkeling on Phi Phi offers a great time can be also seen on the following gallery from phi-phi.com: Snorkelingon Phi Phi Island:Links of Interest:Zeavola Phi Phi Resort Super Rates DealPhi Phi Image Galleries

Egypt: Snorkeling in the Red Sea
Today is our last day in Sharm El Sheik. It's a low-key day of resting and packing. I haven't had consistent internet access throughout this trip, but I have been reading your comments via email on my phone.Yesterday, we chartered a boat to take us snorkeling on the Red Sea. We were toured out and wanted to be away from the crowds. The weather was perfect and the whole day was gorgeous. There is something quite magical about the Red Sea. I'm not sure if it's the history, the color of the water or the bounty of sea life, but it has bewitched me.I really didn't expect to see dolphins, either. A family of five followed along side of us for a while and then joined us at the bow of the boat. We had three locations on our itinerary with an Egyptian lunch served to us on the boat. I only did t

Snorkeling at Blue Hole (Day 13)
A quick tour of our latest accommodation in Dahab revealed that this was the best hotel so far. It was really something completely different compared to the first one in Cairo. It even had a pool. The water inside the pool had a suspiciously greenish tone to it but we enjoyed a swim anyway. Undeniably president Hosni Mubarak is a very important figure in Egypt (he has been the

Kadavu Island forum: Snorkeling at Kadvu - TripAdvisor"I have been looking at reviews of various hotel/resorts on Kadavu. I have observed that most everyone mentions how great the diving is, but almost no one mentions snorkeling at all. I am drawing the conclusion that perhaps Kadavu is not a great destination for snorkeling as compared to other places in Fiji. Is this accurate or am I reading too much into this? If the latter, what resort would you recommend with lots of good/great snorkeling sites nearby and readily accesible?"Upapalmtree in FijiMatava- the astrolabe hideaway. Lonely Planet Diving and Snorkeling Fiji (Diving & Snorkeling)
This is an attractive book which the scuba diver will want to order. It maps and describes 74 of Fiji's top dive sites and the color photography is excellent. Despite the title, however, those interested in beach-based snorkeling will find little of use here as almost all of the sites included are accessible by boat only. Even the new Waitabu Marine Park off Taveuni is mentioned only in passing. There's virtually no practical resort or restaurant information, and the first quarter of the book is devoted to brochure-style hype you can read on almost any Fiji website. Critical reviews of dive facilities are strikingly absent, so this book is of no help in selecting a specific scuba operator. Five pages of listings in the back of the book provide basic contact information, but even this is out of date as all Fiji telephone numbers have increased from six to seven digits since the book was published. Most of the email addresses are also wrong, so substitute @connect.com.fj whenever you see

How to fit a mask for scuba diving or snorkeling....
Howdy,I thought I'd post something that's almost informative for once. One of the complaints you hear about lots in this business is of ill fitting masks. It's a pretty common thing. When I first started diving, I was taught that a mask fit if you could put in on your face, inhale through your nose, and if it stuck, it fit. Well you know what, that works - sometimes. As often as not, you could make a non-fitting mask, that'll leak badly when you are in the water, stick to your face just by inhaling hard. I dove with a badly fitting mask for years, I'm pretty much used to having an inch or so of water in my mask. When I got to Kona, I was hired on at a now defunct (it wasn't me, really, I think it was an ownership squabble) dive and snorkel gear shop downtown. They sold probably 3-8 masks a day, and had people try on umpty-ump more during the course of a day. Every shop I'd ever been to did the old snort and stick method, so that's how I sold masks. Over the course of two weeks or

Scuba Diving and Snorkeling with Sea Lions in Peru
I did both, Scuba Diving and Snorkeling, many years ago and I can tell you that were awesome experiences! The younger sea lions are friendly and playful animals, while the older are not that friendly, they are not dangerous but a hit could hurt you if they decide to ‘play’ with you, considering the size of this animals, length 8’ 6” and weight 1000 lbs.As scuba divers, sometimes we look for

Review from Amazon.com:"Lonely Planet's diving guides usually come through, but this one stands out above the rest. Why? Fiji itself. The cover reads "Top Sites in the Soft-Coral Capital of the World," and one look at the mind-blowing color photos inside is all you'll need as a convincer. What an incredible dive destination, and what a beautiful book to take you there!"

      Snorkeling in Hawaii hints...
Hi there, I was on the web today and found a link to THIS.It's a great little locally made video on reef care when snorkeling. Anyone planning to snorkel ought to take note of it. Many people know how fragile a reef can be, but others don't. With care we can all enjoy the ocean and it's marvels. The picture above is of a Redspotted Sandperch (Parapercis schauinslandi). These guys are quite common out in the sand in deep water. They act much like a hawkfish, awaiting prey while they sit on a coral head. Aloha, Steve

Latest status of snorkeling, hiking, kayaking at Kealakekua Bay and the Captain Cook Monument
I went down the hill today to check on what all's going on at the bay. When we had our earthquake back in October and they had landslides, the state basically shut the bay down. It's been reopened for recreational use, but it is more limited than before the quake. The hiking trail down to the bay has been officially closed for now. The DLNR has had an officer down at the wharf and park much of the time. Someone has put up informative plaques (one is pictured) down at the bay, which is quite nice, and they also have a booth down at the old wharf with this informative video (I linked this back in September, but here it is again) on snorkeling and critter care. They've set up buoys in the bay approximately 100' from shore in front of the monument and inside towards the beach. No boats/kayaks/snorkelers are allowed to land or swim within the buoys and they had a boat out there enforcing that. I guess this is supposed to go on indefinitely for now. Kayaks and snorkelers are a
