I noticed this at Battle of Alberta yesterday. Ryan Smyth said in the Rocky Mountain News on Thursday: "Well, hopefully, I can be an Oiler killer. Some teams you play well against, some teams you don’t. I don’t know about impressions. You go out and play and perform, and you try to do it every night, but it just so happened to work out against these guys." I guess by "these guys" he was referring to when he was an Oiler playing against the Avalanche. Well now the tables have turned, and so has Oiler fans' feelings and emotions about their long lost hero of days past, Ryan Smyth. I think Sacamano at BOA said it best in his post: That goofy-grinned, greasy haired, goalie interfering ding-dong is an Avalanche now. It's unnatural to have feelings any more amicable than general disdain for those contemptible jerks.Well, now Oiler fans are going to get a taste of what Canucks fans have had to put up with since 1995. Do I feel bad for Oil fans? Hell no! I laugh at them! But in a sense
Yahoo sports is quick on the draw when it comes to images. Below are some pictures of various players with their new teams at press conferences.
Smyth in an Avalanche jersey. It's enough to make you puke, isn't it? Now we have to put up with that asshole again all year long! Luongo had better take his knees out!
Don't jump on the "Ranger to win the Cup" wagon just yet. Glen Sather has a
All of the Oiler fans standing in front of Oilers brass headquarters holding signs begging for Kevin Lowe to sign Ryan Smyth can now go home crying. The Smyth saga in Edmonton, and any chance of it happening any day soon is officially over, as Colorado has just signed the much-desired winger to a 5-year $31.25 million deal. Just over $6 million per year... I know Smyth is such a cagey veteran
Scott Burnside at ESPN raises an interesting debate on who is the Playoffs MVP so far. So, what do you think? Is it Hasek? Pronger? Alfredsson? Drury? I am going to go with Daniel Alfredsson at this point. He has 6 goals and 5 assists in 10 games so far. He also has 3 power play goals and 2 game winners. Alfredsson has answered his critics and is playing probably the best playoff hockey of his career. Normally I hate the guy, but even I can admire what he is accomplishing this post season. Love the ol' Instigator Cartoon from a few years back. This time around, Alfie's head is a cue ball. T Tags: Conn+Smyth Alfredsson
Ryan Smyth has a lot of decisions to make prior to July 1. From Newsday: Asked if he wants to wait until July 1 to field offers from other teams or if he would consider signing earlier with the Islanders, Smyth shook his head at the thought of the sizable offer he's likely to receive and said, "Well, I'm sure they're not going to make it easy."To say no, he meant."I want to explore this next couple of weeks with my family and my agent. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I came from a place where I obviously loved to play in Edmonton, and I came to another historical team that sees the Cup and knows [what it's like to win]. Even those ex-players are still around, so it's nice to see that they keep pulling for the team. It's not going to be an easy decision. That's for sure."Smyth said he expects to talk with general manager Garth Snow and coach Ted Nolan about the direction of the franchise. They spent yesterday conducting exit interviews and are scheduled to meet with the m
1:56 The Lightning have acquired F Jason Ward from the Kings in exchange for a 5th round pick. The Lightning also traded Nikita Alexeev to the Black Hawks in exchange for Karl Stewart and a 6th rounder.1:48Poor Mike Keenan has been getting zinged all day. The last one:KEENAN (angrily): "I just don't get why the Panthers didn't sign Bertuzzi when he was healthy."TSN Panelist: "Because the GM changed, Mike!"1:44I wouldn't say that the Red Wings 'won' at the deadline. If anything they added major risks to their lineup. These deals do not 'put Detroit over the top'. Bertuzzi is a liability not only physically, but emotionally as well. He is a moody player who can take bonehead penalties at bad times, and he is a floater. Think they'll let him float in Detroit? Hey, Bert, welcome to defence school!1:40The New Jersey Devils trade defenceman David Hale and a 2007 5th rounder to Calgary for a 2007 3rd round pick.1:30The official trade for Norstrom is as follows: The Kings send Norstrom,
With respect to Messier's celebration last night, Ryan Smyth waited to give a press conference until today at the airport on his way out of Edmonton. The footage of that in it's entirety can be found here. (search the list on the right side of the TSN A/V screen if this link doesn't take you right to it.Pretty tragic stuff. To put some light in the situation, Smyth mentioned that he'd like to win a Cup with New York and then bring the Cup back to Edmonton.Smyth and his agent were wanting to get the deal done earlier in the season. In this Sportsnet news clip, I find it interesting how positive Shawn Horcoff sounds. He almost sounds like he's in management. But he is right. The Islanders on the other hand, are very excited to have Smyth in their lineup."I mentioned to a couple of guys we got Ryan and, the smiles on their faces, they looked like kids back in junior hockey," Isles coach Ted Nolan said during a conference call. Smyth will make his Islanders debut tomorrow night in New Yo
