      Small World.
Thanks to Ethel and Fred for the post about Camberwell market. Was so inspired by the button photo that I went on the weekend without the wee bairns and had a proper roam around for two hours with coffee, and muffin. YUM! Look at my snazzy finds: Vintage fabric and a too cute tin with crinoline lady [...]

It's a Small World After All
Belly dance is a really small world, you know? Belly dancers travel. They are on the 'net. They email. They know people who know people. So before you go running your mouth about something or someone, you might think about who else might hear about it. Because it's a small world after all.

I bought the Islington Gazette for the first time in weeks on Saturday.I was reading a nice feature in the magazine section and saw the name Emma Youle, which rang a bell.Emma was a student on the MA Journalism course here last year- I was reading the blogs of MA Journalism students in the months after I applied, so must have seen hers as well. Good luck to her.

      A Small World
I have a hard time deciding after my trip if it's a big world or a small world. There are stories of both. This would be one of those "it's a small world" stories. A couple years before there the Hometown Invasion Tour existed I was the photography editor at the Red Cedar Log yearbook for MSU. It's the largest yearbook in the nation with 21,000 copies printed. I had a staff of about a dozen photographers. One of which was Terry, also a guy I skateboarded with around campus on a few occasions. As you may have read I stayed in Charleston to represent South Carolina on my trip. My host was Mark, a pretty enthusiastic guy who's just a few years older than me. Terry found his way to Charleston a few weeks ago to visit his sister, who works at a bar in town. Turns out it happened to b

      Small World, isn't it
I was just thinking about Theresa, a woman in her eighties we met at a reading. By way of greeting she sang to my husband,"sun sun are beta sun." She said that she had learned this lyric from the movie PYAASA, but couldn't remember the rest of it. Theresa, here it isHere is a poem I wrote about her: Recital She needs help from bed to bath to kitchen and must not forget her stanzas or the big pink hat.Onstage, she vamps for time. Cataracteyes adjust to the trickster dark; she slapsticks a grapple with the mic, swirls a silk scarf around her neck. Someone yells nice hat! Lifting the brim like Chaplin, she scowls at the audience; it surges toward her and the air grows taut with listening. She argues against loss, rolls each syllable through lines that reach past what she chose to lose and what she longed to abandon. Hand on hat, she stands as if she expects a puff of smoke to topple it, leaving her exposed, hair on end, skull pulsing with truths she'll never speak aloud.

      “Things I Love” Thursdays - It’s a Small World
I am quite certain that Walt Disney came up with the theme after spending time in New York. It can feel like a small world if you run into someone in Pobunk, Nowhere, but the big city intensifies the small world feeling because it seems like it should be less likely to run into a random person from your present or past in such a crowded, busy place, where skyscrapers dominate the skyline reducing you to a figurative needle in a concrete haystack.Yet small world tendencies are so New York. Aside from coming into daily contact with almost every culture on the planet within 22.7 square miles, over the last year Terrence and I have shared separate A-train reunions (1 and 2), my co-worker Jenny and I met a guy at Bryant Park Café who had been an elementary school student in West Chester under Jenny’s mother, I discovered a second or third-ish cousin (by marriage) works with me in another division of the same company (3), my co-worker Scott went to high school in North Carolina with my be

Disneyland's It's a Small World Ride will get Big Improvements
The boats at Disneyland's It's a Small World ride are getting stuck way too often. After years of patching the fiberglass boats, they are scraping the bottom of the flume and stopping the ride. Rumor has it that the ever expanding weight of the American public is the problem. Disneyland is denying this and going ahead with a 10month refurbishment of the ride. A new water flume and new undisclosed scenes will be added to It's a Small World. January 7. 2008 will be the first day the ride will be closed.

It’s a small world after all
I’ve been very remiss lately with my blog posting as I’m busy working on my “secret project”, dealing with a lot of work for customers and, of course, preparing to get married in 10 days. Last night I received an email from a guy called Francois, who I’ve never met or corresponded with before. He lives in England and will be in Denmark over the next few days. He wanted to know if I could recommend any good place in Copenhagen (close to where he will be) to buy computer equipment.  I replied to Francois, including a Google map of where I recommend her go with all the places (main station etc.) he needed marked on it. It took less than 5 minutes. How long would it have taken to get that information 10 years ago? Or even 5? Before the advent of services like Google Maps all it would have taken me ages to put the information together for him and would have either involved a very detailed email explaining everything or scann

      Once again... A small world
The bar maids of our local.30th July 7:49pmI was out in Vias Plage two nights ago with some staff from Tamaris and our group got mixed up with one of the holiday camps. I got chatting to an English lad who as it happened came from Blackburn, which isn't far from me. Small world. What's even stranger is that as the night went on and we chatted even more we stumbled on to what we did at home. He had just finished college - like me - and it was Runshaw College. The college I went to. From there it was one coincidence after another. What's been going on on centre? The Dragon Boats leaked so I got them out of the water and spent yesterday repairing them. Today I was on a fay off and over the next couple of days I've got to train up some new members of staff so they run the kayaking sessions like they are now, which has proved successful.Good lines, stay safe and see you on the wet stuff...Iain

Lunch Break/ing News - It IS a Small World
So I learned this morning that one of my coworkers went to a high school in Raleigh, North Carolina with my best friend. They graduated a year apart; he in 1997 and she in 1998; they both worked in the high school's television studio, and now they live in New York without having ever known that they both ended up here (well, she just moved to Jersey with her finance after graduating from Juilliard, but close enough). It reminded me of a time that Terrence and I - in typical Terrence-and-I fashion - confused LGA and JFK (since it's easy to fail to differentiate between "LGA" and "JFK" and those too airports are soooo close to each other - especially when using an MTA-approved mode of transportation). After we finally realized that he wasn't at La Guardia (so he should stop looking for the M-60 bus and take the AirTrain to the Manhattan-bound A), he ended up running into someone he hadn't seen since his high school graduation in Atlanta while passing through Brooklyn. And recently anot

Micro-photography: Photography through the microscope. You don’t have to be a laboratory technician or a pathologist to appreciate these photos. It gives a really interesting insight into what the naked eye can’t see. Now, Nikon Small World is inviting you to vote for the best photomicrography. My favourite is this one: It’s a picture of “giant unilamellar and multillamelar vesicle”. I have no idea what those are. The photographer who took this picture is a doctor working in the Centre for Biomembrane Physics in Denmark. They conduct parallel experimental and theoretical research into biological and model membranes to unravel, on the molecular level, the relationships between the physical and physico-chemical properties of membranes and their functional behavior. Interesting ….. View and vote for your favourite here.

I happened to be talking to someone in my office about my condo fiasco and this person is in the exact same predicament. She bought a place on the “Avenue on Brickell Condominium” 1060 Brickell Avenue, Miami FL 33131. Her deposit was $40k and the place was worth $380k. I hate to see someone else in a similar position but I think she is worse off. Her apartment is on the 23rd floor and she paid more… but it is a little bigger 1000 sq ft. (versus 847 sq ft on mine) and it has an ocean view. She called them today and they said the unit will be ready in December and that they can rent.

Juan Mari Brás Aboga Por Inclusión De Puerto Rico en "Its' A Small World"
It's a Small World'. Ya es tiempo que se incluya un robot animatrónico que represente un niño de Puerto Rico, tal vez acompañado por música típica de Puerto Rico, como 'La Popola' de Don Omar. Podemos hacer que se vea caquito y todo, como Miguelito, a fueguillo. ¿Así es que se dice?", indicó el reconocido abogado."Y el muñequito animatrónico se movería así mientras canta 'Po' dale por atrá' pa' que descanse la popola'", explicó Ma

I got a comment on my Writers Blog today on how maybe it could end up being and evil shrink in one of my stories. (”Swan Dive”) I followed the link to his blog to find that he had linked to this blog with the words “rude clerk” linking to my post below titled “so very tired” about the customer who got all weird on me, and the lady who got mad cause I stopped to wipe blood off of my arm. Then I checked my comments on my most recent post and he had some gift suggestions for my hard to shop for hubby. The long and short of it is…aside from the fact that he used big words that made me look in at Dictionary.com (and I’m still trying to figure out what math has to do with anything) he seems to like my writing, and he seems to like my blog, therefore I forgive him for calling me rude and thank him for giving me an idea on how to further a story. Everyone has their "It's a small world" story. Here's a small one for today.I was at the Seoul City Club last night for the European Chamber of Commerce Korea and the Europe Korea Foundation Networking event. I've not been to one of these before, but since I met the Marketing Manager for the EECK at the Pudding Club event, I've been on their mailing list, and this party sounded too good to miss. While everyone else there was introducing themselves and the company they work for, I was there just representing myself. When I introduced myself to a group of British and American expats and explained how I'm a house husband, one of them asked if I wrote a blog. When I replied that I did, he asked if I'd left a comment on his blog, and, sure enough, in my exploration of Korean blogs I'd stumbled upon Steve's Seoul Blog and commented on how great minds think alike, as he uses the same blogger template that I do!And in the interests of networking here are some of the people I met: Ther
