After the worst Raw in living history I was hoping Smackdown could provide me with some thought out entertainment as well as their usual quality wrestling bouts.Good PointsStrong StartThe show opened solidly with a Theodore Long announcing that all the Smackdown belts were going to be on the line tonight. Although the intelligent fans know that titles rarely change hands on TV it gets the casual fans and the live audience hyped up.Start of a new feudAfter his feud with Khali, The Big Show has now started a feud with the only remaining monster for him on Smackdown mark Henry. Tonight was Smackdown’s chance to hit the ground running after Wrestlemania as they started their run to Backlash. So Friday brought the 2nd to last Smackdown before Mania and a much needed time for them to impress the audience at home as we get closer to Wrestlemania. We are starting to get the business end now with two weeks to go until the biggest show of the year. This is the time for tight well planned out TV shows and shows which entertain the casual fans in order to get as many people talking about it and buying the PPV a possible. My expectations weren’t that high leading in to Smackdown this week after last week’s average showing but I was hoping they could put on a better showing than last week.Jamie Noble getting a pushI am big fan of Noble and loved his backstage stuff and mic work when he first joined the WWE back many years ago when he had Nidia by his side and I also loved his in ring work whilst he was out of the WWE working for promotions like RoH. After a well booked Smackdown last week I was looking forward to what the Smackdown creative team and performers had install for us this week. However this excitement didn’t last for long.Too many big guysNow last week I talked about Smackdown being heavy of wrestlers around the 300 pound mark or higher but this week it was evident. I must say I have only recently started watching Smackdown again and I have been quite presently surprised. It may just be that the run up to Wrestlemania is making it more exciting or the show is just better than when I last watched either or I’m not complaining.There were many things I liked about the show.Shelton Benjamin – ‘Money in the Bank’ qualifying matchYes like the qualifying matches on Raw the result of Shelton beating Jimmy Wang Jang was predictable but the match was really good. A couple of weeks ago, I bought the latest incarnation of WWE’s franchise of wrestling games - Smackdown vs RAW 2008. It’s the first of the franchise that features the recently resurrected ECW brand, and promises new legends including every mother’s favourite: the late great Ravishing Rick Rude! It also promises all the bells and whistles associated with the biggest sports entertainment company in the world, but bollocks to all that, what’s it like to play? Well, let me start with the one and only good point (and it is quite major). The control system. Once you get the hang of it which takes about half an hour, it is quite innovative and fun. The way you have to perform moves by mimicing them is a step in the right direction. It’s not perfect, and at times you are furiously waving But, unfortunately, it’s the only thing that saves this game. My personal review:This is not the game that fans expected it to be and in fact, it is a big failure when it relates to entertain the fans of the Wrestling in the PS2. The gameplay is very poor and to similar to the previous years making you feel like you are playing the same game in a different year. Oddly enough, Michael Cole came down to J.R.'s Boomer Sooner music.They start by recapping the Edge, Batista, and Undertaker storyline since Survivor Series. My personal review:I am not a huge fan of wrestling, but I always played this game with my friends and this latest year release is just as amazingly cool as the ones from the previous years.
