      Have Portland price declines slowed?
The RMLS released its latest report late Monday with no, quite frankly, earth shattering news. It’s more of the same old, same old which means Portland’s feeling the housing slowdown, but not as badly as other major cities.Looking at the data, what I found interesting was that homes prices were down, but to a lesser degree than earlier this year even though housing inventory ticked up again.T

CRPE says growth of Charters slowed
The number of charter schools increased nationally by about 4 percent between 2005 and 2007, a rate of growth that has slowed considerably since the 10 percent increase between 1994 and 1999."This is drawn from a report titled, "Hopes, Fears, & Reality: A Balanced Look at American Charter Schools in 2007." It was written by the National Charter School Research Project, a nonprofit organization that conducts research and provides information about charter schools for the general public.CRPE director Paul T. Hill says,Charter schools, like all schools, are difficult to run and need strong leaders. They require a lot from teachers and not all teachers are suited to them. They demand a lot from parents and students. They need as much money as the traditional public schools with which they compete—and they need to prove their merits on the same tests and outcome measures as other schools. Like traditional public schools, they also require strong oversight, both from governing boards a

Inflation Probably Slowed to Seven-Month Low in June
Indonesia's inflation probably eased to a seven-month low in June, providing room for the central bank to cut its key interest rate to spur the economy. Consumer prices probably rose 5.9 percent from a year earlier after accelerating 6.01 percent in May, according to the median estimate of 16 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. Indonesia's Central Statistics Bureau will release the data on July 2 in Jakarta. Inflation likely slowed in June as the cost of rice dropped. The cost of the staple food for residents of Asia's third-most populous nation slipped 2 percent from a month earlier, according to PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya, which runs the biggest rice market near Jakarta. Rice prices reached a two- year high on Feb. 23. ``Commodity prices are dropping, so inflation may slow,'' said Franciscus Welirang, director at PT Indofood Sukses Makmur, the world's largest maker of instant noodles.
