      Burger Skills: Hamburger Slang
There is a lot of slang out there about hamburgers and from time to time we will update this list. If you come across any hamburger related slang let us know. Following is a listing of hamburger and related slang (barring the obvious):$100 Hamburger: Aviation slang for a private general aviation flight for the sole purpose of dining at a non-local airport. Most often used by pilots who are looking for any excuse to fly, a $100 hamburger trip usually involves flying a short distance (less than two hours), eating at an airport restaurant, and flying home. "$100" originally referred to the approximate cost of renting or operating a light general aviation aircraft, such as a Cessna 172, for the time it took to fly round-trip to a nearby airport. Increasing fuel prices have since caused an increase in hourly operating costs for most airplanes, whether rented or owned.American Chop Suey: Macoroni with hamburger and a bit of tomato sauce.Bap: soft, flattish bread roll; hamburger bun.Burger:

Resenhas de Livros: Slang Activity Book
Slang Activity BookJack Scholes, Disal Editora, 2005Reviewed by Nancy LakeDavid Crystal, in his foreword to Slang: Gírias Atuais do Inglês, drew much-needed attention to the importance of recognizing all varieties of English and of appreciating real language. His agreement with G.K. Chesterton on the metaphoric qualities of slang coupled with the importance of the efficiency of slang around the world may well have set teachers and students to thinking about how to learn and understand more about this fascinating aspect of all world languages. The challenge, however, is how to deal with lists of words and translations and how to organize real learning in an enjoyable and useful way since most available source books are basically lists of words and their meanings and uses in alphabetical order. We teachers are often at a loss as to how to organize our classes for teaching slang and practicing vocabulary in an other-than-mechanical way. We spend a lot of time searching for exercise books

Street drug slang (and advice to freeze your pee).
This week, my feature over at the fuelmyblog blog  is on the slang names/terms for drugs.  I feel it’s important for parents and adults who are responsible for teens, to know some terminology to try and stay in step with the kids. What you don’t know can hurt (them). I’ve decided to mirror the list here to give it more exposure. Because slang terms will vary based on the locale, this list is but a mere drop in the bucket. I will post regular additions to the list, and encourage any parent or adult out there to print the list out if they feel that would be helpful.  I don’t plan on arguing the merits of drug use with those who will stumble in here having searched a drug term, so don’t waste the brain cells you happen to have left, by typing out lengthy attempts to “enlighten me”.  This post is here as a helpful service to adults who need and want the information, not as an excuse for every drug-using (and therefore) neuron-toasting fool t

      IM Slang
More on Instant Messaging today. As IMing has grown more and more popular, people have come up with their own language to go along with it. You may have heard of many of them such as, lol or ttyl. But has anyone taken it to far? Have you taken it too far? It can ruin the conversation when you keep having to ask them what their slang terms mean, but it can be too tiresome to type out what you have to say long hand. What are your thoughts? On http://coolstufftodo.googlepages.com/ there is a useful IM "slang converter". Just in case.
