Wow, I think we went a couple months without a Wilco related posting here, ok, maybe not that long. At any rate there is more news surrounding the band that is surfacing this week. First off, Pitchfork is reporting that Wilco will be releasing an expanded version of their latest long player, Sky Blue Sky with some bonus tracks that some of us nerds already have, but have not been available on CD until now. The bonus SBS will have the tunes, “The Thanks I Get”, “Let’s Not Get Carried Away”, and “One True Vine”, plus live renditions of “Impossible Germany” and “Hate It Here” recorded in September at the Fillmore in Denver. You may recall that One True Vine was a featured track on a indie stores only bonus disc for early purchasers of the album, while Let’s Not Get Carried Away, which is a great great song, was an ITunes exclusive. The expanded version will be available in stores throughout the UK and Europe. And

After their wild experimental streak of the past decade, Wilco's sixth studio album might feel like a bit of a comedown. Sky Blue Sky is mellow, moody, and uncharacteristically monotone, opening with a pleasant jangle and Jeff Tweedy singing a simple song: "Maybe the sun will shine today, the clouds will blow away." He doesn't even follow it up with a barbed punchline. Could it be that the restless Chicago band has settled back into its gentle Americana roots--or does this sudden mid-career reappraisal represent Wilco's gutsiest move yet? Mostly written in the studio by the full band, it's certainly the group's most cohesive album in ages, presenting a dense song cycle padded with intricate guitar work, brushed rhythms, and '70s soft-rock accents. In places it sounds like Wings ("Hate It Here"), in others Harry Nilsson ("Walken"), and in the middle it goes a bit Grateful Dead ("Shake It Off"). I am anxiously awaiting the double gatefold vinyl copy of the album, which comes with a free CD to arrive, hopefully today. Read this note from the band, it could not be more accurate. Greetings to you all from the east coast branch — where we’ve been burning the midnight oil for months getting ready for May 15. And it is finally upon us. By now, you know that next week is the official release date of Wilco’s 7th album (or 9th depending on how you count). Hence the slightly serious tone of this note. For starters, the album is much mellower than any other Wilco album. That’s not to say this is a heavy band, as it’s certainly not, but there has always been a sharp edge, a certain bite, to Wilco’s songs. First launched in a black and white television commercial in 1952, the animated character hawked Hamm's beer from Minnesota, or as the spots said "from the land of sky blue waters."An auction is scheduled for Feb. 15th in Medina, Minn., of nearly 100 drawings of the Beer Bear by Bill Stein, an illustrator for the St. Paul brewery. The work includes pencil sketches and finished drawings showing the famous Beer Bear in action.
