One of the many new products that were being displayed at the All Candy Expo was this new addition to the MARS family: Skittles Chocolate Mix. They were kind enough to give me a few samples and as I walked away from the booth I looked at the package with a strange sense of curiosity and confusion. I’m wondering how this all fits into “Tasting the Rainbow.” Is the new rainbow shades of brown? Turning the package onto its back, I see it comes in five flavors: S’mores, Chocolate Pudding, Chocolate Caramel, Vanilla and Brownie Batter. How they consider “Vanilla” a chocolate flavor is beyond me. I’m seeing loopholes already and I haven’t even tasted them yet! Once back home from the Expo, I gathered my courage and decided these strange new Skittles needed to be tasted. When I opened the packet I was surprised. Apparently many of you come to my blog for my boob stories. (Gavin will be so proud.) But anyway, this isn't a story about my boobs, but it's a boob story nonetheless.I'm sure I'm not the only one who has seen the commercial for sour skittles. And I'm sure I'm behind the times on this, but since Gavin and I live and die by our TiVo, we never watch commercials. So, as we were fast-forwarding through commercials last night, Gavin said, "STOP! You have to go back. I want to see that commercial." And we watched it. Three times. Because Gavin couldn't stop laughing. He couldn't decide if he was laughing because he thought it was funny, laughing because he was horrified or laughing because he was uncomfortable. Being a breastfeeding mother, I was a little offended, although I couldn't really put my finger on why. I just was. What's your take?(Sorry, I couldn't get the video to load. One of the newest limited edition candies on the block are the Carnival Skittles. They immediately stand out in their playful yellow wrapper amongst all the other candies and I was lucky enough to find them in a convenience store that is close to where I work. The package happily displays the flavors of a “carnival”: Bubble Gum, Cotton Candy, Green Slushie, Candy Apple, and Red Licorice. The smell of the opened package is very sweet and fruity and it’s hard to distinguish any of the flavors in the aroma. The candies are really pretty; whoever chose the colors did a great job with the color palette. Red Licorice (red): How can I describe this one except that it tastes of red licorice? Really. It has that mysterious blend of fruity/floral/sweet flavors that makes red licorice too addicting. The only thing that spoils the illusion is the texture. Yum! Bubble Gum (pink): Very fresh and tastes exactly like pink bubble gum. I even get that cool, chewy texture sensation
