Two years ago John Russell was fired as third base coach of the Pittsburgh Pirates, a casualty of a regime change as the Bucs fired manager Lloyd McClendon. Pittsburgh hired former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Jim Tracy to take over as bench boss, but he was let go at the end of the season that just ended. Monday must have felt like Deja-Vu for Russell as he was brought back to the Pirates, this time as manager.Russell who managed the Ottawa Lynx in the International League the past two seasons, was excited to be back in Pittsburgh. It was the first major hire by new Pirates General Manager Neil Huntington who came over to the Bucs from the Cleveland Indians organization. The New York Yankees introduced their new bench boss Joe Girardi to the fans and the media on Tuesday. Girardi who was a broadcaster this past season with the Yankees was one of three candidates who were interviewed to take over as manager from the departed Joe Torre. Girardi was a catcher and a bench coach for New York, he then became manager of the Florida Marlins. Girardi who was named National League Manager of the Year was fired after one year because of disagreements with Florida owner Jeffrey Loria. Girardi said during his press conference that there was only one Joe Torre and he will manage as he sees fit. MICHAEL Clarke has firmed in the race to be Australia's next Test skipper after former national coach John Buchanan yesterday urged selectors to fast-track his leadership ambitions. Golden-haired boy Clarke, 26, was anointed as his country's next leader before he had even played a single Test and Buchanan insists he is the clear favourite and the right man to take over when Ricky Ponting retires. But Buchanan feels Clarke must be given a taste of captaincy - either by taking over from Simon Katich as New South Wales skipper or by being given more of a leadership position within the Australia team.  I have raised this horse from birth. He is wonderful, has a great friendly and loving personality. He clips without restraint, stands for farrier, lets you clean his sheath, loads in trailer, ties, comes when you whistle even with halter or bridle in hand. Skip loves to be handled and ridden. He has excellent bloodlines, he is the great grandson of Jetalino (famous paint horse), and Skipper W (famous Quarter Horse). He is very flashy, and gets praised by everyone who sees him. I hate to get rid of him, but he needs to be ridden more than I am able to. I was in an accident 2 1/2 years ago, and have a disability in my foot now and have difficulty mounting him because he is so tall for me. I have trail rode him mostly,and round pen work. He neck reins, backs, stands for you to mount, smooth ride. He jumps logs and ditches on the trail, He crosses bridges, water, will swim. This horse will make someone a winner. He just needs more riding time.

Former Florida Marlins manager and current New York Yankees broadcaster Joe Girardi reportedly met with Baltimore Oriole's officials on Tuesday to discuss becoming their new manager. The O's fired former manager Sam Perlozzo on Monday, after a disappointing start to the 2007 campaign. ESPN is reporting that Girardi has been offered the job, but neither the team or Girardi will confirm that. The meeting took place Tuesday in Chicago, and after the interview Girardi expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity. Girardi who spent one year with Florida, took the team to a 78-84 record as a rookie manager.
