Whoever said that being beautiful is all about having a curvaceous body and the right posture? Clearly, that someone doesn't know a thing about beauty. For the most part, beauty is about having flawless and younger-looking skin. Before any other criterion is taken into consideration, your overall appearance will be judged by how healthy and glowing your skin appears to be. But no matter how much you try to attain younger-looking skin, there are factors that are out to ruin it for you. Aging, toxins, and pollutants in the environment are just few of the nasty things that can damage your skin. And quite frankly, there is not much that you can do to prevent these elements from taking their toll on your dermis. Review: Skincare: Kanebo Blanchir Day Conditioner SPF29
I’d been recommended the Kanebo Blanchir Whitening Day Conditioner SPF 29 ( Medicated ) by the girl in the Kanebo salon when I went for my last facial. I was itching to try something new and this was new (to me). The medicated element I’m given to understand is merely the Japanese way of labelling the item because it is supposed to have whitening/lightening effects. Anyway, this is the moisturiser cum sunscreen by Kanebo Blanchir.  The texture is very fluid and light and it comes in a slim pump bottle. It does feel slightly sticky on the hand but once you apply it and let it sink in, you won’t notice it at all. I liked that you only need one pump to cover your face because of its fluid texture. Living in the tropics however, I find that SPF29 just doesn’t cut it for me. So, I use this as moisturiser and then apply another layer of sunblock over it.  However, if you are living in temperate zones, then this might work better because the sun isn’t so ho

I have a confession, I was seriously ghetto about an hour ago. You see about a year and a half ago I went to Nordstrom and the woman gave me a sample of this MD Skincare All Over Blemish Gel, it was awesome. After about a week (maybe two) I had polished off the sample and my skin was looking flawless. I went back in Nordstrom and bought a tube, or so I thought. What I had really bought was a MD Skincare Blemish Spot Treatment cream -- not the same but it was still pretty good. I am working my way through the tube to this day (hope that's safe) but I kept on dreaming about the gel. Skip ahead to last week, I walk into Sephora to pick up my gel and almost fall over when I see the price tag -- $84. I have to say it would be worth it because this gel can take the ugliest skin and make it flawless but $84 was not in the cards for me, so I walked away. Now here comes the ghetto part. I go back into Sephora today because I have an hideous blemish on my cheek with the intention of

Review: Skincare: Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1
When I first saw that Kiehl’s had opened its doors at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, I was keen to try out their #1 product - the Lip Balm #1. I’d read a lot about it, and many people swear by it for keeping their lips soft and chap-free. I bought it for RM29.90 and whilst it goes on very emollient, it didn’t make my lips feel any softer than normal. I then forgot about it until recently, when I fell ill and found my lips dry and peeling. I picked up this tube of lip balm again to sooth my peeling lips and applied the balm liberally. To my utter chagrin, it didn’t help my lips one bit. They were still as dry and were still peeling. I went back to Vaseline Petroleum Jelly, and my lips immediately felt softer and smoother and all the flaky skin fell off. So, my conclusion is that this is pretty much just expensive petroleum jelly in a tube, but without the effectiveness of Vaseline. I’ll finish up this tube but I won’t re purchase. Pros: Emollient, handy s

Review: Skincare: Kanebo Impress Concentrate Mask N
I have been wanting to try something from the new Kanebo Impress line. I got my opportunity when I went for my regular facial and purchased the Kanebo Impress Concentrate Mask N. The mask comes in a sealed foil pack with one Impress essence soaked paper mask inside it. When you open the foil packet, be careful because there is quite a lot of excess liquid. The mask is a regular paper mask that you unfold and then apply onto your face. I find that chilling it in the fridge for a couple of minutes makes it feel more relaxing as its then very cool. The essence has a slight scent that isn’t unpleasant. The texture has a slightly slimy feel to it, but in a good way. It feels nice and cool on the skin and you can leave it on for up to 20 minutes. After that, any excess liquid/essence can be used on your neck or arms so as not to waste it. I found that my face felt awesomely soft after using this. It did feel rather sticky though and I found that rather off-putting. In an air-condition

Skincare Tips to Slow Down Aging
An appropriate and effective skincare routine can be the answer to the bogging problem regarding formation of wrinkles and spots due to aging. As always, good skincare regimen, healthy lifestyle and good nutrition would be ample in making the skin look vibrant and more beautiful. While it is a fact that there is no means to prevent aging, proper care could help slow the natural process down and make it a graceful occurrence. Skin aging is a natural effect of skin cells' wear and tear processes. Be reminded that there is definitely no existing skincare product in the market that could prevent skin aging so beware when some manufacturers claim that their products do so. However, several goods will surely help in skin repair. Understanding the natural process of skin aging set a good start. There are two different types of skin aging. Intrinsic aging is internal and is caused by the genes that are inherited from parents. The process can also be extrinsic or external that may have

      Natural Skincare From Green Tea
Chinese herbal practice is very well known for its natural ingredients and its numerous organic products. One of the wonders of Chinese health practice is green tea. Through the years, the habit of drinking green tea has become popular from the mainland to many parts of the world. Because of its known health benefits, demand for the beverage has significantly risen to new levels. Now, there are studies that link natural skin care benefits from consumption of green tea. In China and many other Asian countries like Japan, Thailand and India, green tea has been found to be very effective in having several medicinal properties. Particularly, the tea has been used to aid digestion and help heal wounds. While modern medicine is still finding proofs for the therapeutic claims for green tea, some people readily accept the known health benefits based on hundreds of years of experience and observations. Many modern traditional Chinese skincare products now have green tea as an active ingredient

Girl Talk Reviews: Frutels Skincare Vitamins
Frutels Gummy Vitamins$24.95Available at: frutels.comI am a firm believer that the single best thing we can do for our outside is to take really good care of our insides. In my case, my obsessive whole-grain-flax-seed-fresh-fruit-antioxident infested diet pretty much drives my entire family and most of my friends completely crazy. What can I say, I'm addicted to healthfulness.Needless to say, when I heard about a new gummy vitamin designed to nourish our insides in order to combat acne and skin blemishes on the outside, I was ready to jump on the bandwagon. The recipe for better skin in a jiffy includes a range of vitamins from C to zinc-- literally-- and nutrients such as inositol and choline. Let's be real, I'm neither doctor nor nutritionist, so I can't comment on the ingredients. The only real question left for me? Would the gummies really deliver on their promise of better skin in just two weeks? I put the test out to the Stiletto Jungle Girl Talk panel: if you are plagued by

still hunting skincare for my pigmented skin
I'm continuing my search for treatment products for my pigmented skin again. In the last ten years, I have spent a substantial amount of money on 'revolutionary' products that claimed to arrest pigmentation and brown spots but unfortunately, the results delivered just led to continue my research. Whatever new products that were highlighted in the media news, I would check them out and if they were 'safe' for the skin, I'd give them a go.Two months ago, I spent another few hundred buying two products that promised to lighten the pigmented areas and offer luminosity. Sadly, I might have to stop soon. In the skincare marketplace, there are some very expensive labels that have launched their range of whitening products. The one that I have been thinking about trying is the exorbitant La Mer but without sufficient positive reviews, I am hesitant to part with my money. This is the second time I have heard about ORIKI Cosmeceuticals, who specializes on skincare for Asian, Mediterranean a

      Skincare 101
The TESS line conducted research with hundreds of teens and their mothers to find out what teens wanted and needed in a skincare product line. And what they came out with is a full range of products that address every need. But heh, some of them are good for us gals in the next generation too. I love to try masks on the weekends and these two next TESS masks were absolutely great for my skin. Mask O’ the Month? I think so. And right now you can purchase an unbelievable deal and get two for $20! The Go Undercover Strawberry Soothing Face Mask feels cooling and hydrating on the skin and You can even leave it on overnight! Review: Skincare: Dr. Bragi Marine Enzyme
I was contacted by Paris (Yes that’s her name!) who offered me to review a revolutionary skincare by Dr. Bragi. The item is an age management enzyme that promises to rejuvenate, moisturise, and be anti-inflammatory. I was intrigued, so she kindly sent me some samples to try. Each sample sachet came in a small little clear square plastic packet with a tiny bit of serum in it, about 1ml. Initially, I thought each sachet would last maybe 1 use. However, I was wrong. This clear enzyme serume has no smell and no colour. It is very viscous and a teeny tiny bit is more than enough to cover the whole face. The directions are to use it both day and night, but I found that it was a tad too sticky for day, so I only used it at night. With just using it once a day, one little sachet lasts about 1 week. Amazing! On the skin, the serum goes on slightly emollient. The skin will feel oily if you apply too much so care must be taken to apply only a very thin film on the skin. What I did was to sq

Review: Skincare: The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Facial Wash
During the last Body Shop sale, I picked up the Tea Tree Oil Facial Wash for a song. I’d used the Tea Tree Oil before, but never the facial wash. It lay forgotten in my stash until a week ago when my usual cleanser had run out. So, I thought to give it a shot. It comes in a recyclable bottle and is of a gel texture which has a green tint to it. The smell is the sharp smell of tea tree oil which is very distinctive. Some people don’t like it, but I don’t mind it. The thing about this is that it lathers up very easily. So easily in fact that there is a tendency to over pour the gel into your palm. However, as it comes in a plastic bottle with a flip top cap and a small hole in the cap, its relatively easy to control the outflow. Tea Tree oil works great to treat pimples and spots and is supposed to have antibacterial properties. That is good news because I’m presently nursing a bit of a breakout and as it doesn’t seem to be getting worse, maybe this cleanser

Review: Skincare: DHC Deep cleansing oil
I first heard about DHC Cleansing oil from a beauty forum I used to participate in. There were many girls who liked it as an oil cleanser, especially because it was quite affordable and because it was made with olive oil. Olive oil, as many proponents of it will vouch, contain antioxidants and are good for your skin as well as for your health. DHC is a Japanese brand which uses olive oil as the base for its skincare products. We don’t get it here in Malaysia, but when I was last in Hong Kong, I wandered into a DHC store and picked up a small bottle of the Deep Cleansing Oil to try. The cleansing oil has a thick consistency. It has an amber colour, rather like that of cooking oil. It feels thick in your hands and is quite hard to spread on the face. It is used very much like all other cleansing oils i.e. with dry hands and a dry face, and then rinsed off with warm water as you gently rub your skin to remove the dirt, makeup and oils accumulated during the day. I found that when I

Get Back to Nature with Natura Bisse Skincare
On Saturday night at a private resident beachfront residence in Malibu, there was a pah-tay in honor of luxury skincare company, Natura Bissē.  Sigh, I remember when people just had parties for humans.  But then again, this is LA LA Land and we'll use any excuse to party. But this was a glamorous affair as dinner tables were beautifully adorned on a deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and celebrities from the stunning Jacqueline Bisset, the dazzling Raquel Welch, the charming Molly Sims and the fashionable Nicky Hilton, were on hand. Natura Bissē is a high end skincare line that someday maybe I can afford to look at.  It's pricey, but it comes from Barcelona so shipping it across the Atlantic makes it a tad more $$$ than your Oil of Olay.  Yet it is a fun story in that the founder of the company noticed that the hands of his factory workers were as soft as silk so he created a line of products that take collagen, elastin and keratin to really absorb into the

Review: Skincare: Kanebo Blanchir Night Conditioner
Onto the night regime for the Kanebo Blanchir series of skincare. I use the Blanchir Whitening Night Conditioner. The picture below shows the Moisture version which is for dry skin and maybe more suitable for those in colder climates where the air is drier. Here in Malaysia, its hot and humid so I go with the normal one (the packaging is the same, just that it doesn’t say “Moisture” on the front). The Whitening Night Conditioner comes in a tub. I don’t usually like creams that come in a tub because of the hygiene factor. Realising this perhaps, Kanebo has included a little spatula with the tub. A flexible plastic ring is included, that you can slip over the top of the tub, with a little slit for the spatula to sit in. Quite ingenious. The texture of this night conditioner is similar to that of the milky conditioner, except that its thicker. Its almost a gel texture and has a translucent cream shade. This runnier texture means that you end up using less on your

Review: Skincare: Kanebo Blanchir Milky Conditioner
After using the first step in double-moisturising, comes the second step, which is the normal moisturiser. Under the Kanebo Blanchir line, it is called the Milky Conditioner. I like the texture of this milky conditioner which is like that of a liquid gel. The moisturiser is an opaque creamy colour, like condensed milk, that spreads very easily. I like that because it means you don’t have to use very much to cover your whole face. There is a light scent but it doesn’t bother me. I like that it is light and soaks right into my skin nearly immediately. My skin feels hydrated and comfortable and it stays that way the whole day after I apply it in the morning. I’m not quite sure of its ingredients but I don’t think it has oil as a base. Usually, oil based products are heavier in texture but this one is light and does not leave a residue on my hands. It can be used both day and night, and I usually just pour a bit into my palm, rub both my palms together then spread

Review: Skincare: Kanebo Blanchir Whitening Clear Conditioner
I was introduced to the concept of “double-moisturising” by the people at Kanebo. what it entails is 2 levels of moisturising i.e. through the clear conditioner and then regular moisturiser. After cleansing, your skin needs moisture to be reintroduced back into the skin and this is where the Clear Conditioner comes in. It might be more easily identified as a toner, but where a toner traditionally cleans off excess dirt and closes pores, the Clear Conditioner is designed to add in moisture to the skin. The texture is a clear liquid, like water. You are recommended to saturate a cotton pad and then lightly pat it (not wipe it) all over your face. This patting motion “pushes” the clear conditioner into your skin and contributes to the hydrating of the skin. Wiping doesn’t have the same effect. I have been trying this technique for a while and I find that to an extent, my skin does feel more moisturised after using this Clear Conditioner. Some days, I feel l

Review: Skincare: Kanebo Blanchir Clay Wash Conditioner
For double cleansing, Kanebo Blanchir offers the Clay Wash Conditioner as the second step after using the Make Off Conditioner.   This cleanser is a foaming cleanser and comes in a traditional packaging of a tube. The texture is that of a cream that lathers up into a foam. As it is a clay wash conditioner, it is more suitable for those with oily skin because it might be too drying if you have normal or normal-dry skin. I have combination skin and if I use it by itself, then I do find my skin feeling tight after using it. If I use it after using the Make Off Conditioner or any cleansing oil, then the tight feeling isn’t there and the skin feels more comfortable. This reinforces my view that it is more suitable to people with oily skin. I like how the cream lathers up to a soft foam. The foam really feels very soft, like cotton wool which I find nice. This means also that you only need very little at any one time. I did not have any problems nor did I have any reactions to th

Review: Skincare: Kanebo Blanchir Make Off Conditioner
This is the first in my Kanebo Blanchir skincare review series. The Blanchir Make Off Conditioner is actually an oil cleanser. Although oil cleansers are usually marketed to those who wear makeup to act as a makeup remover, Kanebo recommends this as the first part of its double-cleansing routine. They recommend that you use this first to clean your face of all inpurities and dirt before using another foaming cleanser. I’ve used a bunch of cleansing oils before this, but I must say the Blanchir Make off Conditioner takes top points. The texture is clear and liquid unlike some other brands which are more viscous and thicker in texture. There is a light fragrance which I find rather soothing after a long day. Because it is more liquid, I find that its easier to spread and you actually end up using less. I pump 2 pumps of the oil into my dry hands and spread it all over my face, then rinse it off with warm water while gently massaging my face. This make off conditioner takes off mak

Lost in the Maze of Anti-aging Skincare Choices? Discover what Doctors Do for Their Own Skincare
When it comes to erasing facial lines and reducing wrinkles, the network is an apparent resource for researching your skincare product options and anti-aging handling alternatives. The challenge: almost every website maintained by skincare experts and product firms assure fast, simple, and pain-free ways to seem 10 years younger. Obviously there’s a hype element when it comes to skincare; therefore, how better to discover away what truly works? I decided one manner to undertake this doubt was to request outstanding skin experts what they do for their own skincare and anti-aging treatments, as easily as what they may make in the future. I began with a leading expert in minimally intrusive skin treatments, Dr. Virginia Stevens from the Hypatia Clinic located in Woodinville, Washington. Dr. Stevens operates one of the largest skin handling centers in Pacific Northwest. Her practice covers many of today’s almost favorite anti-aging treatments including Thermage and Thread lifts. The Truth About Skincare Products-They Put THAT In My Skincare!
The skin is the largest body of our body. Like the lungs, the skin "breathes" inside and outside, the food returning and of toxins to release. You could have noted a tendency in pharmaceutical industry in which more and more of the regulations are offered in a "patch" or gel form. It is because research shows that that the presentation of the substances by the skin is an effective and regular manner to enter to medicines necessary directly blood circulation. That's great news when it comes to medicine, but what does that mean to us regarding skin care? It means that we must put two important questions about the products which we choose to employ to increase our skin: What's in it? and Is it helpful or harmful? More than 10.000 chemicals are employed like ingredients in products of care of skin in all industry. The national institute of professional safety determined that 900 of those are not very sure and others have to be still examined for safety. In Europe, more than 400 were proh

Skincare - A Foundation for Beauty
In my role as a beauty consultant I am constantly surprised by the number of people who, when asked about their skincare routine, simply don't have one!If more people followed the basic skincare routine I have laid out below, there would be less people who need to seek specialist advice for, for example, a special occasion such as a wedding, party, or even just for day-to-day skincare issues.I usually like to have an initial consultation with a bride at least six months before her wedding for that very reason - if there are lots of skincare issues to be addressed, it can take some time to achieve the glowing complexion they are looking for. And I also think that the run-up to a wedding (which can be as long as you like!) is a great excuse to pamper yourself! There is a saying -"It takes 21-30 days to develop a habit". If you set yourself a goal of performing a basic skincare routine for 21-30 days, at the end of that time you will find it has become second nature and will be quite hard
