      Sweet Powder: Skiing in France
      For some people, a successful vacation is defined by how many hours one can spend lounging about on a beach. And then there are skiers. For people who like to hit the slopes, a holiday isn’t a holiday unless you watch the world shush by in a flurry of fresh snow. One of the world’s [...]

      So it hasn't snowed in our part of China for about 1 1/2 months and in fact the weather is warming to the point that most of the snow is beginning to melt. Sounds like a perfect time to go skiing, right? Well believe it or not, it was perfect! Granted it was more skiing on ice than snow but it was still tons of fun.Now I know what some of you might be thinking right now - don't you live in a de

We hired a car in Bratislava and drove the 450 km to Bad Gastein, about 100 km from Salzberg. My son had never skied before but caught on really fast. He had two hours of private lessons plus about 5 hours of group tuition and here he shows me what he can do. The only black boy on the slopes!

Now...keep in mind...if you want to be wasted by 9:00am, ok and I guess good for you. But...if you are wasted by 9:00am, I don't recommend taking runs. Just chill out in the lot. Sunshine, snow and skiing
      It's been yet another amazing week in Durango. The week started with sunshine, and it felt like spring was already here. Luckily the temperature kept going back down, saving the snow from melting. Thursday we started getting some new snow, it's all good now. Fresh powder, perfect temperature, just in the low 30's. I was skiing with the boys on Thursday, and me, Matt and Kris ate lunch at the 10,000 feet on our ski break. Then the snow really started coming down, and we had half of a foot fresh snow on the top of our skis. I was so proud of Kris - he did so good in the powder snow. I think I'm really going to miss these "just three of us" days when he goes to Kindergarten this fall. On the other hand I can't wait that mommy and daddy can just drop the kids off at school and go and ski toge

      Skiing from hut to hut is a great way to see the Alps, but beware
      The Route, which runs through France, Italy and Switzerland, dates back to the mid-1800s. At one end is Chamonix, France; at the other, Zermatt, Switzerland. In between are enough glaciated ridges and sheer drops to make you wonder why you didn't just stay home. But by no other means will you enjoy so intimate an experience of the winter Alps. Both Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn are on the Route, and the scenery's scale is never less than majestic. Nor will you suffer much privation, since, at intervals of approximately one day's travel, a stone hut like a little castle awaits you, light and warmth emanating from its windows, food simmering on the stove and wine waiting in the larder.

      Alana and I went to the Jones Street Boys show at Soundfix in Brooklyn last week. If you've never been there, it's a newly redone cross between a show space and a coffee shop, attached to a great record shop. Normally, it's just about the most relaxed show space around. Apparently not when the Jones Street Boys are there.The music itself was really incredible, and having seen the band a ton of times, including Danny Erker and Jon Hull in their previous band, I've never heard them sound better. Their midwest tour did them well in many ways.I have no idea where the wigs and sombrero came from, but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the beer.The Jones Street Boys Website

      Divid J. According to the suit, Pfahler is asking for compensation for the physical therapy required for his torn shoulder, as well as compensation for nursing, vacation time, medical services by his wife and a few other expenses.  The suit says that Pfahler and his wife lost approximately $75,000. The boy’s fathered said he witnessed the accident, and that his son was in control and was skiing slowly.  He said, “It wasn’t a violent collision or anything; Scott just kind of tapped his ski boots.”  The mother, Susan Swimm, said “Who in the world sues a child,” and that “it just boggles my mind every day.”

As I’ve told a few, I only ever saw snow once in my life and that was this year, in Feb. I was like a kid in a candy store. So, I can only imagine what those of you in Europe get to enjoy. I think it would be amazing to experience a true winter like that doing a little skiing sitting around a fire with friends, drinking hot chocolate and just enjoying the beautiful surroundings of not only the people but your location. I mentioned I have some friends heading to France and they are going soon, in the prime of winter. I’m not quite sure what the weather is like around that time but I can only imagine it must be delightful. Supertravel has these really awesome skiing trips in not only beautiful chalets like the Courchevel chalet but also, to my taste, 4 star hotels. With full on service - nice! But I do enjoy the feeling of skiing - virtually flying along the ground - so the new “TRIKKE Carving Vehicles” caught my attention. A full-body workout machine that’s also fun, for about $200! Some of my friends compete in competitions and the like, whilst others have only been on the slopes a few times in their life. The fact is that we were all really looking forward to it, and we were all sure to enjoy ourselves whilst we were away. Unfortunately, we don’t spend much time together, as we all go to different colleges, whilst others are trying to make it through the rat race. When we decided to book the holiday I was delighted to hear that everybody was able to make it, and that everyone had promised to save up enough money to really enjoy themselves while we were away. The cost of booking the holiday worked out at around $300 for accommodation for the week as we were going to be staying at a backpacker’s location, and it was only going to c

      Christmas Snow and Easter Skiing
      By Shaun ParkerIndeed the seasons are changing, no one can argue that the snow is coming later, but few will realise that it is also staying for much longer. We are seeing some of the best snow arriving mid to late march, and lasting well into April and May. Maybe skiers need to start changing their habits for their annual ski holidays?From my own observations over the 20 years that I have been immersed in the industry, the snow has not degraded over the past two decades; it has simply chosen to start coming later on. But not so late that it has wiped out the traditional and favoured time of year to go skiing, which is of course Christmas.Ten years ago the temperatures would drop in late October and the first snow would arrive in late November. A base layer would have formed by the first week in December, allowing skiers to enjoy cold, dry snow from early December on.In those days Easter skiing was a luxury only afforded by those who could justify the expense of an elite "high altitude

One of the top resorts is Queenstown, where holidaymakers can access the Remarkables mountain range, where the north facing slopes catch plenty of winter sun. The resort is one of the most southern on the country's South Island, and is renowned as a year-round active holiday hotspot, attracting travellers on walking and cycling holidays once the snow melts.

      The heaviest snow seen in the Otago, South Island area for many years as reported on previously, meant that the ski fields opened as planned. High winds after the heavy snow fall meant that much of that snow was blown away. Treble Cone and Cardrona ski fields opened with limited ski runs being available for the disappointed shool holiday crowds. With 25cm of fresh snowfall over the weekend, Wanaka’s Treble Cone has now been able to opened all runs. Operations staff worked frantically Saturday to prepare the Saddle Basin for opening that afternoon. Cardrona situated on the mountains between Wanaka and Queenstown now also has all facilities open. Skiing
      I'm going skiing with my darling K and my parents in a couple of weeks so therefore I needed a new skiing outfit. I bought this Esprit jacket with matching pants to keep me worm in the ski slopes. The only thing remaining to complete the outfit is a fancy woolly hat and gloves. Haven't found any that I like yet…If you have any suggestions please let me know!I haven't been skiing for the last 4 years so it's exiting to see if I can stand on the skis without falling on my bum all the time ;-) _uacct = "UA-1121149-1"; urchinTracker();
