      Proper Bike Sizing
What Size Bike Do I Need?by Adam PetersMake sure that you judge the right mountain bike sizing before purchasing a bike for you. Follow certain ageless techniques to determine the sizing and make mountain bike riding the most effortless sport for you.Deciding what size of mountain bike will be the perfect one considering your body size is perhaps the hardest thing to decide when buying a bike. Stop fretting about the kind of metal with which the frame is made or other technical descriptions; the single most important issue in getting the right mountain bike is perhaps the sizing. Although there are quite a number of differing opinions about right sizing of a bike, they come together on a few points about bike sizing. And those are the points we are going to discuss here in this article, so

Portion sizing part 2 - its been a long (but good) week
I posted the second part in the series, "Retrain Yourself on Food Portion Sizes" last night on Almost Fit (technically this morning) at around 1:30AM or so - its been a long week. My time has been stretched thinner than usual, particularly since we have a 3-1/2 year-old (pictured) with Chickenpox at home (I work at home). He's had his first inoculation (at 1 yr.), so his symptoms were reasonably minor - no fever and such, but he broke out all over with the tell-tale signs of the virus. He's in good spirits - the only downsides for him are a) he's kinda' itchy, and b) he can't go to school. The upside from his perspective? He has gotten to watch a little television during the week, which is normally reserved for the weekends. The next article in the series is going to talk about some of wh

      Women's Panties - Sizing
We know it can be confusing, and difficult to determine what size panties you should buy. If you are buying for yourself or for somebody else. Many of our thong panties and G-Strings come in One Size only (O/S). One size generally fits a person wearing pantie sizes 5 - 7, or a dress size 4 - 11. G-Strings that come in one size only are usually made with an elasticized waist and back string, and will therefore adjust to the sizes mentioned . If you are a panty size 4, or a size 8, our one size panties might either be a little bit on the bigger or smaller side. In that case we recommend to look for panties in your size. For example P, for petite, or L for large. If you don't like your panties too small check out our plus size panty selection. Panties - Sizing: Size 4/5 = P S

      Position Sizing and Risk Management
With the recent horribly tragic events of real estate and debt instrument investment experiences, some public information on risk management deserves attention. Position sizing deals with the portion of total asset exposed to risk/reward.Putting it all on the line or "betting the ranch" tends to carry exceptionally high risks of ruin, since it leads to large losses as soon as the underlying event goes south. It would make more sense to allow many different "bets", all with positive statistical expectancies, to occur at once. As the law of large numbers kicks in, a positive return will eventually follow. Luck determines the speed of it.Quick example-Basic trend following stock investment strategies carry approximately 33% winning rate on average. (Many still come out profitable after long s

Are You In Need Of Some Serious Under-sizing?
Most reports of women who have large breasts state problems that range from the minor to debilitating. Bras that don’t seem to fit, clothes that are king-sized, skin irritation and rash, neck, shoulder and back pain, stretched, ugly looking areolas, stretched skin and a host of other problems plague women who are largely ‘endowed’. In light of these physical problems, large breasts are hardly a blessing for this group of women. Compared to the number of women who would do anything for augmented breasts, breast reduction patients are a rather glaring contradiction. From the standpoint of a mastectomy performed to treat breast cancer, plastic surgeons recommend a breast reduction procedure to get the breast that is unaffected in symmetry with the operated breast. One-piece computers -- in which the display and the PC are in the same case -- are nothing new. In fact, some of the earliest systems were designed this way. Names such as Osborne, Kaypro and, yes, Compaq come to mind. However, the current leader in all-in-one offerings is Apple, with its iMac line. Given that the very first Macintosh was a one-piece system, that makes sense. The sleek all-aluminum iMac is a major part of Apple's resurgence.

La Liguilla: Sizing Up The Semifinals
Mexico's Apertura season completed another turn this weekend, as the quarterfinals of the Liguilla (playoffs) wrapped up. There was one notable upset, with seventh-seeded UNAM Pumas ousting the second seed Toluca. With the Diablos Rojos' early exit, its coach Jose Pekerman (if you recognize him but can't place him it's because he was Argentina's coach at last summer's world cup in Germany) is now seen as a top candidate for the managerial vacancy at River Plate, according to this ESPNDeportes story (at least I think that's what it says. By all means please correct me if I'm wrong). For more on the quarterfinals match-ups, please consult the lengthy primer I wrote on the subject.Pumas will now face top-seeded Santos Laguna, with the first leg taking place in Mexico City Thursday. The return leg will follow at Santos' Estadio Corona Sunday. Obviously, Santos will be heavily-favored, but so too was Toluca. Santos is looking very strong; their only Apertura loss came Oct. 12 and t

Pretty Playhouses for Desperate, Down-Sizing Grownups?
While we were patrolling for selections in our upcoming gift guide, Top 50 Prettiest Gifts for Children, we had a delightful excursion through a wonderland of playhouses that left us utterly inspired. We've been so distraught at the outrageous cost of homes in California, we had a brilliant idea. Why not buy a tiny lot of land and build a perfectly pretty playhouse upon it, like the Victorian Mansion Playhouse by Playhouse Street (pictured above)? What a solution to the housing crisis! Children's playhouses have come such a long way from the warped-planked, rusty-nailed forts of yesteryear that the tipping point has finally arrived to make them suitable as permanent addresses. Today, you can create your own patch of Oz with a gorgeous, custom-built refuge for the young at heart, even if you're thin of wallet. Just add plumbing and electric, and you're all set. Think about it: You could cut the cost of a real home by more than 75% by opting to live in a munchkin-sized house on a

      Sizing Up a Great Tent
By: Bud SayceShelter is not a luxury; it's a basic necessity of life. So it makes no sense to leave for an overnight camping trip without providing yourself with a dependable source of shelter. The first step to getting back to nature is buying a tent you can depend on. A good quality tent must be comfortable, easy to use and provide security for you and your family.Tents needn't be fancy, or expensive. They can be as simple as small, two-person pup tents, or as extravagant as full-size family models with three rooms and lighting. All that really matters is that the tent is durable and dependable enough to protect you from nature's elements. When shopping for a tent, there are several details to look for. First and foremost, determine what you need from your tent. Look at the size and shape of the tent, and consider the weight, setup time and the types of poles. The tent that you choose should be easy to set up, particularly if you'll be camping alone. Ask the sporting goods store as

Beckham Effect II: Sizing Up The NY Red Bulls' 2007 Attendance Numbers
The previous post on the improving Major League Soccer attendance figures led me (via the comments page--thanks mountainmadeofsteam) to look at how the Red Bulls' attendance numbers match up to those of prior seasons. But before I go there, a few clarifications are in order: First of all, I don't know of any proof for this, but AEG is widely suspected of having been a little creative with attendance figures during the years they owned the team (that would be 2002-05). While we don't know for sure that AEG did this, we can say with 100% certainty that they engaged in some sleight-of-hand by counting international doubleheaders as their own attendance. This even though there was--quite literally-only a small fraction of fans left in the stands for the Metro portion of the doubleheader. To illustrate, take May 31, 2005: according to official MLS records, the Metros-Chicago Fire game that day had paid attendance of 50,807. Except, that MLS game came the same day as a certain England ve

Copa Sudamericana Primer: Sizing Up The Quarterfinalists
With all this talk and debate about who belongs where in the top 25 worldwide soccer club list, I thought it would be a good time to take a look at the Copa Sudamericana. The "UEFA Cup of the Americas" is the second-biggest club competition in Latin America (the Copa Libertadores is #1) and also the only time MLS teams have a chance to play Latin America's best in a competitive setting (sadly, the lone MLS representative, DC United, was eliminated in the Round of 16). Unlike European club competitions, the Sudamerica is currently at a fairly advanced stage, with three of four quarterfinals having already completed their home legs. The tournament barely receives any press coverage from English-language media in the U.S. and even less from Europe. I suppose the Europeans have their own leagues to worry about, while the U.S. market is served by Spanish-language media. That leaves non-Spanish-reading idiots like me out in the cold. The company carries a wide variety, from team hats, major league sports, and NCAA. In addition, Lids carries many sizes and colors. When buying a hat, you will need to buy the correct size. Trying hats on is the best way to determine which size you should buy, but if you are shopping online, you may have to measure your head in order to choose the correct size. A cloth tape measure is the best tool to use when measuring your head. If possible, have someone help. It is best to measure the crown of your head, which is very top above the eyes, as this is where the hat will sit. While many hats have adjustable straps, some do not. Correct MBT Shoe Fitting And Sizing
I want to thank Isa, a YFMYU reader, for providing this information about MBT shoes. I wrote about MBT shoes on June 19th. To refresh your memory here's the link to my that post:Fat-burning shoesRead Isa's information about MBT Shoes:CORRECT MBT FITTING AND SIZINGIf you want to buy MBT shoes online, just like going to a shoe store it is very important that you are fitted correctly with the MBT. Ideally you want some room for your toes since the construction of the MBT shoe is exaggerating your toe-off movement. At the same time you want both of your feet to be securely locked into your MBT shoes. Since the function of the MBT is to enhance and smoothen transition within your entire foot-strike activity, this causes more movement (and need for precise fitting) than in most regular shoes. If you are interested in trying MBTs, but have nowhere to go to try them on, the first challenge is to get an accurate measurement of your feet in "European Size" and always use this as your standard f

      Sizing up your opponents.
There's a tendency among traders and gamblers to just see the prices and the volumes.  It's something I sometimes get caught up in.  We're all on an endless lookout for value prices, but what about the people behind the prices we're looking at.  Who are they ?  And why are they offering that price ?  How often do we actually acknowledge their existence on another computer somewhere, betting against us, or with us... These are very valid questions, ones you can't afford to ignore.  We all know there's a variety of different types of punters and levels of skill.  On a more basic level, there are winners and losers.  Putting it slightly obviously, you want to be betting against losers (and with the winners)! Whether you are a trader or gambler, there's a series of questions you ask yourself about each situation before you come to a decision about a bet or trade.  Among these questions should be, why has this person made this bet or off

Monday Night Open Thread: Sizing Up The Competition
As Alexis Carrington would say "Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer." Actually, she'd probably say something more like "Take this junk, and your blonde tramp, and get out of my house!" Which is still kind of what I'm going for here. We're won five in a row and are still 5 whole games back of the stinkin' Brew Crew. I keep saying that they have to start losing sometime, but lately it looks like "sometime" might be a long way off. Yahoo: MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A determined Prince Fielder was one big problem for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. Fielder homered twice and scored the go-ahead run in the Milwaukee Brewers' 6-4 win over Pittsburgh. "Obviously, Prince Fielder was very involved today," Pirates manager Jim Tracy said. "He basically accounted for three of the four runs they got in the early stages of the game. And, he also took a terrific at-bat against John Grabow." The Brewers, a major league-best 21-10, are 11 games over .500 for the first time since 1992.

There are ways to cut calories from portions to help continue losing weight over time.By now, it probably comes as no surprise that many, if not most people in North America and the UK eat way too much. A plate of food at a restaurant is on average 4 to 6 times larger than a recommended portion size. At the market, labels tell us about the calories contained in one serving, but even an “individually sized” bottle or package often has three or four servings in it. We are also generally accustomed to finishing whatever is put in front of us at the table. This is defined as “completion compulsion” by researchers, and it causes us to see food as units that need to be ingested in

Presidential candidates offer few specifics so far on K-12 policy proposals. From Alyson Klein of Education Week.Republican education policy advisers and advocates are divided over where Congress and the next presidential administration should take federal K-12 policy: Some applaud the 5-year-old No Child Left Behind Act for holding states accountable for student achievement, while others are put off by the major expansion of the federal role in education. So far, it’s unclear how that debate will play out in the race for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination. Some state policymakers have begun advising one of the candidates, but most are waiting to see the ideas the current candidates put forth or who else gets into the race. The next president could oversee reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind law, President Bush’s signature initiative in education, as many observers predict the measure won’t

The most common situation preflop in texas hold’em is to have the action folded to you. And the most common action for you to take in this situation is to fold. Deciding which hands to play and how to play them in this situation is key to short stack no limit hold’em strategy, or for that matter, preflop strategy in any game. The first thing that needs to be considered is how much to raise preflop. With full stacks it doesn’t matter that much. Any amount between two and a half to 5 times the big blind is reasonable. A smaller raise gives you more action, which you may or may not want, and lets you play more hands since you are risking less. A larger raise gets more money in the pot with good hands and increases your equity from blind steals, but means you have to play tighter to make up for the time

ottobre sizing for skinny kid posted by Hally
I've just subscribed to Ottobre magazine. They do sizes by height. My 6 yr old is on the small side; she is 117cms, which is a toddler size according to Ottobre. She is also much smaller around than their sizes, 3 cms in the chest, and 10cms at the hip. Will toddler patterns be the right shape for a 6 yr old? Is it better to use the size they give for her height, or for her circumference? I want to make her some pants, and 10 cms seems a lot to take in. But if I added length to the smaller size, I wouldn't know where to add it, just all in the legs? I'm fairly new at this, and any help would be appreciated.Last post by Monica G at Sun 15 Jul 2007 07:57:27 PM Total posts: 6 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Research Singer Sewing Machines at PatternReview.com.

Frustrated with sizing posted by Mary5
My measurements have me fitting a size 16 perfectly, but my projects keep coming out too big. I just finished a second pair of slacks that are swimming on me! I normally wear a size 10 in off-the-rack clothing. I worry that if I go down to a size 14 that my projects will come out too small. I did this with a fitted dress that I first made in the size 16 and when it was too big, I made another in the 14 - it's pretty dang tight. (This is NOT a good look for a middle-aged woman.) Have others had this problem?Last post by xtreme1 at Thu 09 Aug 2007 11:12:25 PM Total posts: 5 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Shop for New Look patterns at PatternReview.com

      Butterick Sizing posted by EdnaW
Hi Everybody, I'm about to purchase a couple of Butterick Misses' patterns. Can anyone tell me if the sizes tend to run big? I have read a couple of reviews that seem to indicate this (i.e., a woman with a 31" waist said she made a size 14). Should I size down? I'm only asking because I'm between a 14 and a 16. Thanks!Last post by Babs42 at Sun 14 Oct 2007 07:08:09 PM Total posts: 5 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Shop for Jalie patterns at PatternReview.com

Why is the sizing of store patterns so off? posted by KittyLuv
I made pajama bottoms from a Simplicity pattern in a beginning sewing class I took. I took my measurements the correct way and according to the pattern, I was a medium. I thought this was odd because when I buy clothes in the store, I am usually an x-small or small. But the teacher said you can't compare the sizing of patterns and store sizes; they are totally different. Long story short, when I finished the pajama bottoms, they look like clown pants on me...way too big! I re-did them with the x-small pattern and they fit perfectly. I have found this size discrepancy with other patterns I have worked with. I am positive I am taking my measurements correctly. Has anyone come across this and have an explanation for it? I like the idea of working from a store-bought pattern, but not if I can't figure out the correct size to make. Vogue pattern sizing posted by arob121
Hi everyone, I am trying to use a Vogue pattern for my prom dress, and according to the measurements it gives for sizing, I am a 14-16, but I know that my dress size is 8-10. Should I cut the pattern to my dress size or to the Vogue size? This is the pattern, if it helps: ~AshleyLast post by jewelsfashions at Mon 24 Mar 2008 02:26:10 PM Total posts: 9 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Research Tacony Sewing Machines at PatternReview.com.

Pattern Sizing / Different Companies posted by linibop
Hi All! Just back into sewing after enough years for my brain to forget some important info; If a Simplicity blouse fits me in a size 10, and pants a size 12, should I assume ALL Simplicity patterns will fit me the same size? Same w/ Vogue, Burda, etc? Would LOVE your thoughts! Thanks, linibopLast post by linibop at Mon 07 Apr 2008 09:58:15 PM Total posts: 2 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Shop for Amy Butler patterns at PatternReview.com

Stretch wovens and sizing posted by JoanN5A
In general, how do you adjust sizing when you use a stretch woven fabric in a pattern that calls for non-stretch fabric? Is one size smaller usually about right, or is that too much? The fabric in question is a pants/skirt weight cotton or cotton blend with (I think?) about 3% lycra. -- Edited on 4/20/08 8:00 PM --Last post by JoanN5A at Sun 20 Apr 2008 06:27:03 PM Total posts: 3 Visit PatternReview.com to read this entire topic.Research Euro Pro Sewing Machines and Sergers at PatternReview.com.
