Tomorrow is Malachi's 6th birthday party... we had planned an outside "sports" themed party... but then it snowed. And then it melted. And today? Snowing. Again.Thankfully Malachi just wants to play with his friends...And my computer? STILL NOT IN MY HANDS. I won't mention the fact they called me Wednesday and "said" it was DONE. Ahem.

Lot’s of upsets last week maybe none so shocking as Philadelphia shutting down Dallas.  Sorry, I stopped believing in curses when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. And as far as playing in front of one’s significant other effecting performance, plenty of players have felt that same ”clammy” feeling, playing in front of their dads, or former coaches. "A lot of people are confused about that," said the New York area source. "It hurts him to see his son look up to another man who is wealthier than he is and can provide a better life for Quincy" Story jacked from SR..This is interesting on one hand he should be happy someone loves his son like that..But I understand your son calling somebody else daddy. Playoff Reflections, Day Sixteen: Rockoctober Continues Out West, Indians/Red Sox
A little more than a month or so ago, the Colorado Rockies were not even an afterthought in terms of postseason play. Well, after a hot streak, they found themselves in a pennant chase and needed a 163rd game to get into the post-season.Now, they are in the World Series.Colorado shocked Arizona and the world with their 6-4 win last night, thanks their offense outburst in the sixth inning topped off by a three-run homer by series MVP, Matt Holliday. The Diamondbacks countered with a three-run homer by Chris Snyder in the 8th inning; however, the Rockies’ Manny Corpas kept the game in check and earned the save. The Rockies now obviously don’t know how to lose, and have won their 21st game in 22 chances. Seemingly everything has gone right for the Rockies, and now tenured veteran, Todd Helton is seeing his first World Series after being in the league for 12 years. With their amazing momentum, they are primed to perhaps win their first World Series in franchise history.More Video:***Mean

My baby girl is sixteen months old today. The last few months have been such a joy to watch her grow and learn. She loves to laugh and play peekabo with her brother. I should do a whole separte post about that because it's so funny to watch the two interact. Ava's favorite thing to do lately is to grab a toy from Cameron and quickly run away from him while laughing, which of course drives Cameron crazy. She loves to be chased. I am sure when they are older John and I will not be as amused when the two fight. But for now, we absolutely laugh our heads off - it's our nightly entertainment to watch the two fight and run after one another. Here's one that John took at the park. This is what she always looks like everytime Cameron chases after her. I love that John captured her expression.Other things she has accomplished:-Getting off the bottle - hurray!!!!

      Sunday Sixteen
Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone. Hope you are all spending some quality relaxation time with the family. Don’t worry, the laundry will be there in a few days, I promise. Here’s the Sunday Sixteen for this holiday weekend! 1. Alex’s took his very first steps all on his own this week. He walks like a pro everywhere, but still refuses to let go except for these few steps so far. He insists on at least having someone’s finger to hold on to, though he hasn’t figured out yet that the finger isn’t really helping him any. 2. Yesterday I got a tick bite. Haven’t so much as seen a tick in almost a decade, and sure enough, I get bit when I’m pregnant. Lyme disease can cause all sorts of problems for a developing fetus, some of them very, VERY serious, so were being very watchful for any symptoms at all. Luckily, so far we seem to have escaped safely. Please pray for my little developing one that things stay that way! 3. Because of #2,

      Sixteen Hundred Calories
Okay okay okay! I need to start getting back on track with healthy eating. Since I started this new thing… errr, that’s my secret and I haven’t talked about yet, my appetite has gone down, but so has my ability to really care about much. And so I’ve been eating a lot of chocolate chips and other unhealthy things. But since I don’t eat much, my weight is holding steady. If I were to use a calorie counter, I wonder how many calories I consume with these chocolate chips. I used to track my calories a lot, using a spreadsheet, but using an online system is easier, and I can do it from anywhere. And it’d be a good way to see what I’m eating. If I did that, I’d use a free calorie counter. And then I’d have to start watching what I eat. And making a better meal plan again. I know how to lose weight, I know what I have to do, I know how to eat healthy. I just have to make the decision to do it. Using MyFitnessPal for calorie counting he

It’s time for the Sunday Sixteen! And what a busy week it has been! Keep your tray tables in their upright and locked positions, this is going to be quite a ride!! 1. We found out Wednesday that Alex is going to a big brother sometime next January. Surprise! 2. Alex took his very first steps last night. He’s already flying through the house pushing his toys, and we knew his delay in walking was most likely related to the fluid in his ears. Last night he took two wobbly steps to the coffee table. Hubby and I made a HUGE deal about it, and I have a suspicion that it will increase by leaps and bounds from here on. 3. Alex’s favorite foods this week: Old El Paso Mexican Skillet meal (made this for the family and Alex absolutely wolfed it down), greek gyro (from the Greek Festival downtown yesterday), and diced peaches. 4. My little man is chatting away these days. He makes all sorts of sounds, and even more words, especially “HI”, “Dad-dy”,

Tennessee Ernie Ford - Sixteen Tons (1955)
The booming baritone voice of Tennessee Ernie Ford was best known for his 1955 cover of Merle Travis' grim coal-mining song "Sixteen Tons," watered down by the dulcet strains of a Hollywood studio orchestra but retaining its innate seriousness thanks to the sheer power of Ford's singing. But there was more to Tennessee Ernie Ford than that. Over his long career, Ford sang everything from proto-rock & roll to gospel, recorded over 100 albums, and earned numerous honors and awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award. His popularity and recognition transcended country music, and he was among the earliest and most successful "crossover" artists to come out of country music, paving the way for such diverse popular culture figures as Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Reba McEntire, and many more. Born Ernest Jennings Ford in 1919, he was a native of Bristol, TN, a town that subsequently came to be regarded -- thanks to

We took Alex’s off a short time ago because he was climbing on the bumpers and then getting his legs caught. Now, he has no bumpers to climb on, but he’s still getting his legs caught. He’s only getting caught in the mornings or right after naptime when he’s trying to get out. Thoughts? 2. We got pictures made this past week and the few that I’ve seen so far are absolutely wonderful! I love that I have such a photogenic son! 3. Alex and Diesel are once again inseperable this week. The Sunday Sixteen
I know you’ve been waiting with baited breath since about Tuesday, so wait no longer … Here’s the SUNDAY SIXTEEN!! 1. Stress stinks. And somehow I can make even housework stressful. I need to learn to mellow out when it comes to laundry, vacuuming, and all those other wonderful hassles. 2. Alex had his first swim in his very own backyard pool this past week. He loved every minute up until he had to get out. He also seems to think it is hilarious to put his face in the water and then open his mouth. You would think this might scare him, but no, I think he actually gets excited in a “Look what I can do!” way. 3. We sacrificed a tube of Desitin to Diesel’s ever growing appetite for diaper cream this past week. The dog has brain damage. He’s just got to. 4. Sweet Sixteen For WHO?
I'm not thinking there's anything sweet about it! It sucks plain and simple! My oldest child is 16 years old as of 2:41pm EST today. This is so cruel, it truly is. Sixteen years have passed so quickly and now as he is looking towards the finish line (18), I'm trying to think of ways to trip and tackle him so he doesn't cross it! He's looking forward to being an adult and a man. I'm trying to figure out how to get him to play with his Biker Mice From Mars again. If you've been reading this blog for the last two years then you know that every year on the kids' birthdays I do a special post to them. If you're new, well every year on my kids' birthdays I do a special post to them. Caught up now? Good. Then we will continue...Dear Precious 16 Year Old Manchild,Sixteen years ago today I gave birth to a 7lb 8oz baby boy with blue eyes and blonde hair. Such a tiny but beautiful thing. How did you ever get so big? One day you were laying on my chest while The Little Mermaid played on t

      Sunday Sixteen
Sunday is here again already? Where did the week go? Geez, it’ll be Christmas before I catch up. I don’t need to tell you that we had a rough week around here. But the healing process is slowly starting, and it’s time to get back to at least pretending to go through the motions. So in keeping with tradition, here is the Sunday Sixteen! 1. We’re making progress on the “no throwing food” idea. Alex seems to have settled down in that regard, which just might save some unsuspecting soul sitting behind us in a restaurant from getting a headful of pasta in the near future. 2. Alex had his 15 month shots this past week. 2 to be exact, and he took them like a trooper. 3. He also got his measurements checked. He is 30 and 3/4 inches and 21 pounds. An almost 1 inch increase from his last check, and exactly the same in the weight category (surprise, surprise). 4. Mommy got a new digital camera for her birthday, so that means lots of new and finall

2007 NCAA Tournament (The Sweet Sixteen)
Finally, a full night of entertaining basketball, both college and pro. The tip-off of the Sweet Sixteen was last night and all four of the games were gripping including 3 of the 4 coming down to the final moments.(5) Tennessee- 84(1) Ohio State- 85Ron Lewis came up HUGE yet again and helped spark a historic 20-point comeback to knock off the 5th seeded Tennessee Volunteers, 85-84. At halftime the Vols were up by 17 and were seemingly cruising to a trip to the Elite 8, because not only did they have the hot shooting, Chris Lofton on their side they also had history with them. The biggest comeback in a NCAA Tournament game at the half that ended in Regulation was the 17 points erased by UNLV. And not only that, the Buckeye's leading scorer, Greg Oden, was on the bench most of the second half due to foul trouble."In this tournament, the two most important words are `survive' and `advance,' and we've been very, very fortunate the last couple of games to do those things," said Buckeyes

      Sunday Sixteen
This week’s Sunday Sixteen: 1) This weeks big news, Alex is allergic to Amoxicillin. We know this because he broke out in horrendous hives all over his body and required a visit to the pediatrician AND the allergist, all in one day. 2) I desperately need to buy more Aquaphor. Preferably in a dog proof tube. 3) Alex started waving “hi” this week. He also usually says something sounding like “hey” or “hi”. It’s so cute! 4) I won a Guest Blogger contest over at Pinks & Blues Blog AND I won a gift certificate. Pinks and Blues are looking for other guest bloggers, so visit their site and give them some literary love. 5) Alex’s favorite foods this week: strawberries, sliced american cheese, yogurt, and feta chicken. 6) Mommy and Daddy have been much better about establishing a “read to Alex before bedtime” routine. Great for Alex’s vocabulary, and it’s a nice chance for some quiet family time too. 7) A

The Sunday Sixteen. Sixteen new and interesting things Alex has done this week, things I have learned this week, or fun filled facts involving whatever might be going on in our little corner of the world. Diesel, get OFF my blanket!! Sunday Sixteen 1) Alex has ANOTHER ear infection. At one point his temperature got up to 103.9. I’ll be posting on all the ways to bring a toddler’s fever down shortly. Trust me, at this point, I’ve tried them ALL. 2) Alex was kind enough to give Mommy his ear infection too. Even the same ear. At least he likes to share things. 3) It was 90 degrees in Greenville today! Thank you warm weather, I love you! Time to break out the sunscreen for the little man though. 4) We are however, finally healthy enough to start going back to playdates. Alex LOVES playdates, and Mommy is always a fan of getting to chat with other moms. 5) Alex seems to be entering a separation anxiety/fearful phase. He’s suddenly afraid of things like the

book excerpt (3/3): Forever Sweet Sixteen
Chapter 2: FOREVER SWEET SIXTEEN (part 3 of 3)Monday, September 18, 2000My parents and I drove to Washington Hospital Center early in the morning. I had an appointment to see Dr. M&M, and also to be the recipient of a needle biopsy. Washington Hospital Center, plain and simple, is in the ghetto. As I sat in the back of my dad’s 1996 Chevrolet Astro Minivan, or what I like to call the Big Red Box, I couldn’t help but notice the men sitting idle on their doorsteps. It reminded me of the movie Friday.Dr. M&M is a famous surgeon who was one of the first to do limb sparing operations for tumors. My grandma even saw him giving an interview on TV right before I met with him. “I really like this guy,” she said. After an extremely long wait, he opened the door to my room with a slew of doctors. “Hello Benjamin. Hello Mr. and Mrs. Rubenstein. I’m Dr. M&M, and these are some of my colleagues.”“It’s nice to meet you,” his right-hand man, Dr. Phil, said.“Has anyone ever tol

book excerpt (2/3): Forever Sweet Sixteen
Chapter 2: FOREVER SWEET SIXTEEN (part 2 of 3)Thursday, September 14, 2000 Before leaving school Thursday afternoon I talked to my friend Ink in the lobby. “What are you doing later?” he asked.“I gotta go see that orthopedic guy.”“Oh yeah, I forgot. What do you think he’ll say?”“He’ll probably tell me I have a dislocated hip or some shit,” I said jokingly.I met my mom at the doctor’s office after school. When he walked into the room he had me stand up and face her. I was butt-naked underneath the gown, so the whole situation was quite awkward. He pushed around my back and ass for over a minute as I stood there getting more and more nervous. Just say it’s a stress fracture! Quit fucking with me.Finally, after groping me for much longer than I felt was warranted, he said, “Something is definitely growing there.” Growing there – what the fuck does that mean? You want to clarify that?He then referred me to another orthopedic surgeon located in Washington, DC.

book exerpt (1/3): Forever Sweet Sixteen
A certain individual said he wouldn't support me because he hadn't read any of my book. For that reason I've decided to share the second chapter to I've Still Got Both My Nuts: A True Cancer Story. My dad said to me, "If you run out of things to write for your blog, you could add chapters from your book. Nobody would even know."Although he was right, this will most likely be the only time I show segments from my book.Chapter 2: FOREVER SWEET SIXTEEN (part 1 of 3)If time was to stop and I was stuck at one age for the rest of my life, then I would want to stay 16 forever. The only two negatives at that time were not being the legal age to get into an R-rated movie, and the hip thing…I was 16 and over halfway through my sophomore year of high school in Northern Virginia when it started. I was on the tennis team, not because it was my favorite sport but because I wasn’t good enough to make soccer or baseball. In the first week of practice we had a round-robin tournament to dete

Idle Sons: Sixteen Seasons: Tell Me
Idle sons is a Canadian rock band and was also known as "Slurpymundae" during their early years. After a continuous focus on song writing and constant gigging, a new horizon was being opened for the Idle Sons through major studio helps by producer Gggarth. An intense twenty-day session made a compelling mark for the band to release the "Sixteen Seasons" album."Sixteen Seasons", is a new record that rocks with ferocity, determination and a never-say-die attitude of Idle Sons. There are three different types of songs on Sixteen Seasons.* Four tracks ("Bleeding," "This Evening," "Long Way Home" and "Before the Fall") survived intact from the never-released Hell or High Water.* Four more ("Waiting Around," "Good Life," "Better Days"-the track that long-time fans might remember as "Push"-and "Now Forever") were reworked from their original High or High Water form.* The final four songs (the first single "Tell Me," "Getaway," "Little Bit Less" and "Maggot") are all brand new, all products of
