Yes, there is a credit crisis gripping Dubai. The government and Dubai property investment authorities are far from sitting idle though. As part of the ongoing DIFC week, the DIFC Forum has put forth some positive developments on the Dubai real estate and property sector. One faction feels that the GCC region should combine forces with the Asian markets, especially with China for a consolidation
I bet this whole financial mess has made everyone of you open your eyes and question your wants, question your income, question your money management (or the lack of it), question your expenses, question your investment strategies, question your job security, question your $10-per-workday lunches, question your credit card statements, question your insurance coverages ….. The decision by Aluminum Corp. of China, or Chalco, to close 38 percent of alumina capacity, coupled with an earlier industrywide reduction in aluminum output and widespread cutbacks at steel mills and zinc, copper and nickel smelters, has substantially reduced the load on the electrical grid.
It should ease pressure on overstretched Chinese coal mines and [...]
Sometimes it's hard to stay positive during tumultuous financial times. So, I thought I'd highlight at least a few good things that have resulted from the economic downturn to keep things in perspective:* Lower gas pricesIn a time where already cash strapped consumers are witnessing the evaporation of their retirement accounts and house values, a little relief at the pump will be a welcome change.
Lately, the media has not had a lot of “good news” to report on. The stock market is down… way down. Congress is continually arguing about economic stimulus packages that, if not passed, would mean millions of Americans losing their jobs and retirement funds. Obama and McCain will reportedly spend around 30 million dollars over
Housing sales and prices are plummeting….just a little.
This morning’s Cincinnati Enquirer Article covering the local housing market is full of doom and gloom. And yes, we are in a housing slowdown, but if you look at the numbers-properties continue to sell.
Let’s take a look at 14 days of real estate activity for single family homes in a few [...]
"Every cloud has a silver lining" means that the sun shining at the edges of every cloud reminds us that every difficult situation has a bright side. It is an idiom which means that one should never feel hopeless because difficult times always lead to better days. Difficult times are like dark clouds that pass overhead and block the sun. When we look more closely at the edges of every

Burke represented the Marlins' best hopes for a medal before last week's Canadian Age Group National Championships in Calgary -- and proved just why during them. Matching the medal count he secured last summer in Montreal, the 15-year-old swimmer highlighted a busy four-day stretch with a pair of silver-medal performances in the boys breaststroke. His finishes in the 50m and 100m, personal-best an
Starbucks may not be the last casualty of the economic slowdown on the Australian Capital Territory's food and catering scene, according to an expert.
The coffee chain is closing 61 outlets across the country blaming challenges unique to the Australian market. All four Starbucks branches in Canberra will close from Sunday with the loss of about 50 jobs.

Matthew Bretherton has written a good new article at money.co.uk about who is gaining from the credit conditions.
He points out that the growing spread between base rates and actual rates cuts both ways:
…the interest banks are prepared to pay out on savings accounts are 1.3% higher than the last time the Bank of England base [...]
Starters ERA: 4.47
That’s not spectacular, but it’s more than solid. Basically, our starting rotation has given us slightly better than a collective “quality start”, which is 3 runs over 6 innings and an ERA of 4.50. A lot of the credit belongs to Mike Mussina’s resurgence, it’s been fun to watch.

Thanks to falling prices, U.S. affordability levels for median home prices have bounced back to 54% -- 10 percentage points above the 44% level noted in the first quarter of 2007. Still, because buyers expect prices to keep falling, they remain largely stuck on the sidelines hoping for better deals to come. But in many areas, affordability levels are approaching and exceeding 90%. From a CNNMon

If you have not checked out Diane Von Furstenburg's spring and summer collection, I suggest you visit the website pronto. The collection includes maxi dresses, flirty strapless florals, African print and Safari inspired dresses and more. Below is one of my favorite dresses accessorized with silver. What I love about that dress is that you can wear it during the day with flats or dress it up for the evening with pumps. Normally I would go for some silver Loubs with this dress but I couldn't pass these gorgeous silver basket weave strappies from Chinese Laundry. This look is appropriate for a semi-formal spring wedding or an evening out on the town.
My toe is totally broken. The dog barrier. It came down like a guillotine onto my big, right toe when I tried to move it. Driving hurts when I press the pedals, which is, of course, the whole time.I wonder if people in Florida have more toe breakage because of excessive flip flop wearing? Probably. But it wasn't enough to break my toe. The very next day my mother stole my toe thunder. I was hoping I would get the sympathetic laughter, the nodding heads. But, no. No. Because her story has, well, a story. Her fifteen years in NYC meant she had no experience with garage doors. She went to the storage space to move some things from the studio and was closing the door. The door is made of 12 inch slats that are open between while they curve, then meet when they straighten. Her left middle finger

Silver Lining Originally uploaded by Misa Gracie. It's been a tough week. So, as we had all planned on going to Amy's house for a lunch party today, we trudged through the work week with that little carrot dangling in front of our eyes. She has a beautiful home in Marblehead, though I didn't take any pictures because I forgot.. I know, dumb excuse, but it's the truth. She made possibly the best chicken salad I have ever had - and she promised me the recipe! - plus an assortment of other delicious foods made for a very yummy lunch. She had arranged a surprise for us at The Landing and when we arrived we found Jan and his boat ready to give us a nice tour of the coast line. It was very refreshing and cool on the water.I shot this picture as we were heading out of Marblehead going North. We went as far as Manchester-by-the-Sea and headed back to Amy's for dessert. It was the silver lining of the last few weeks. Amy rocks!
Property Taxes in Indianapolis has been the subject of many articles, questions and water cooler converstaions. I have even cast my voice into the well of objective (okay, maybe not objective) opinions. My objectivity is clouded, not by my personal agenda, but, by what I see happening and how it has affected the advice I can provide my clients, as well as my ability to negotiate in the best interest of my clients.
I wasn’t going to write anymore about the tax situation…..then, I was asked recently if there is a silver lining in the property tax fiasco. I am generally conservative in my opinion of future events, especially when those events are left to the decisions of politicians who have failed to deliver on their promises.
Yes, I believe there is a silver lining…..
The sharp rise in property taxes has provided a sense of awareness among the community. While many have bemoaned their tax bi
Sometimes life gets a little crazy for all of us. . .
At such times we can become totally out of control in regards to what will happen in our lives. Individuals such as fighter pilots, trauma surgeons, or astronauts are trained to feel in control of the situation at all times. The truth is that we only have control of the choices we make in any given situation, nothing more or less.
This is a core principle of addiction in that the addict has deluded them self into believing that they possess some degree of control over their drug of choice. In reality the person is completely out of control and cannot be helped until accepting this fact. My current circumstances seem to have awakened me to certain realities from a personal perspective. Life has so many lessons. I'm beginning to understand the contradiction between myself and the substance abuse community. With the cynicism and animosity sometimes felt, one would find it puzzling why I might continue treating so many pa

In the new millennium plastic money or credit cards has rendered a new zing factor to your pocket. This has not only made you economically more flexible but subsequently added glamour to your financial image as well. No more bulging out hip pockets with excess of liquid cash. Instead, the slimmer your pocket; the smarter you look. But behind all these inviting attributes of credit cards there seems to be a trap laid out for people who are impulsive and careless (http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/avoidcardtraps.html)
The usage of credit cards have been on the highest spree this decade and along with the usage, the debt rates has also somersaulted sky high. Majority of the citizens of the U.S. owe thousands of dollars as credit card bills. While gross dollar volume on bank credit cards has increased 2.5 times since 1994, the average transaction has increased about 16% over the past decade. The average transaction on a general purpose credit card, carrying the VISA, Mas
The past week was a week of sadness and grief...
Less than twenty four hours after the death of my nurses' husband to cancer, my receptionists' grandmother was taken off of life support and pronounced dead. One of the deceased I knew well and the other I'd never met. My practice partner and I made it through the week without support staff the best that we could. I'm glad the week has finally ended. I wanted to find another topic to write on tonight but nothing seems to inspire me. We all wish we could avoid dealing with death and grief but doing so is the greatest form of denial, for death is fully guaranteed for every living creature. It is interesting that this thing we dread and hate so much is the very thing that gives life such value. Were death not a future certainty we would have no reason to be accountable for the life choices we make. It wouldn't matter if we selected a pathway of pure evil and destruction or if we selected the very same pathway we have chosen in our cur

The talk of London Town is the Christmas bargains on offer in stores across the shops in New York and in other cities across the USA. Surely this must mean a real estate bonanza for overseas property buyers looking for investment property overseas. The UK housing market has a shortage of homes for sale leading to constantly increasing property prices. Investors are not getting value for money in the British competitive market. Seasoned property investors know that profits are made on the purchase price and this is now become increasingly difficult. So is the US housing market going to be rescued by overseas property buyers in 2007?
Most of the numbers were within the range that was expected. DaimlerChrysler sales dropped 1.6% to 180,184. Mercedes sales rose, but sales at the Chrysler unit were off 3%. There were 25 sales days in October 2006 compared to 26 days in 2005. Daimler's stock rose about 2% to just above $58.
Ford's sales rose 8% to 285,195, but October of last year was the first month after employee pricing was offered to build summer 2005 sales. So, the period in 2005 was abnormally weak. The good news for Ford this October is that car sales were up 22%, but sales of the company's more profitable SUVs and pick-ups were only up 1% to 133,036. Sales of the company's flagship, the F-series pick-up were up only 3%. Sales at Ford did tighten inventory at dealers, which may mean the company will not have to make more production cuts for early 2007. Ford's stock had a gain of about 2% to $8.47 after the figures were released.
GM sold 301,317 cars and trucks in October. GM's total rose 22% from the same
It seems that there is hope for a peaceful settlement to Lebanon's crisis, or so it seems…After last week brief glimpses of hell, Lebanese politicians got a little scared. Nassrallah announced that this is a political disagreement and could only be solved in political means, a big shift from his previous claims of forcing change through demonstrations, road blocking and paralyzing the country.Additionally, as I stated in a previous post , it is possible to get an idea of future events in Lebanon by decrypting current events in Palestine. For example when I wrote Parallel fates, the situation in Palestine was enflamed while in Lebanon it was pretty calm, a few weeks later hell almost brook loose in Beirut. So at the moment the situation in Palestine is mixed, Fateh and Hamas are still fighting each other and the intensity of their confrontations changes by the hours. But the main event was the agreement of both parties to hold "peace†talks in Mekka, in response to King Abdalla

After arriving at around 8PM from Hongkong, I was just too poofed to think about the next day. Believe me I was glad to be home. Not that my 4-day vacation in Hongkong wasn't fun, because it was anything but that. Every minute spent there was just a blast. Words can't give justice to how much I enjoyed my trip there. We were fortunate enough to make each minute spent there all worthwhile. We went practically everywhere - Ocean Park, Victoria's Peak, Disneyland, practically all the shops there… By the time the day ends and I had to go back to our hotel, I could barely feel my feet. Since I believe one can only appreciate the Hongkong experience through commuting, we tried practically all kinds of public transport there. It's a far cry from the ones here in the Philippines. It wasn't scary to ride public transportation at all. In fact, it was great. Don't even get me started on the shopping. I'll talk about my trip to Hongkong on another post, once I compiled all our pi
